Your Majesty,
The Grandmaster plan shall stay the same.
I also wish to propose that TATC is given a monopoly in the region of Colombia.
I would also like to rename the colony of Cape to Cabo Ferran.

Lisbon. Capital of Portugal, recently fallen to Aragón. This country was unstoppable at this point... unless France suddenly turned hostile. Which it did.

Duke Montségur's personal servant entered his study after the Treasurer didn't respond to pertinent knocking. And yes, there he was, seemingly asleep over his notes... eternal sleep. François de Montségur had passed away after 72 years on this earth. Not exactly surprising, considering that he complained about getting weaker each day. Therefore, it wasn't surprising either that the servant found a 'political will', written down by the ever-diligent Duke himself before death.

myKh8vJ.png

To the court of Hispania,

If this letter reaches you, then it means that I am no longer living in this world. While my physical condition has deteriorated, my mental condition has been as good as ever though. As such, I wish to pass away knowing that i have done all I can do for a better future, which means drafting plans for my offices as well as provide my opinion on the matters presented to the Cortz. May you consider my advice, built on my many years of experience. May Hispania continue to prosper just as it did before.

François de Montségur, Duke of Trinacria, Count of Palermo, Treasurer and Steward of the Crown

Treasury: My previous plan has worked well. It could be beneficial to hire a more capable adviser for the administration in the future, maybe replace Pere Sastre, but then I continue to say that no artists or philosophers should be hired, as Hispania doesn't need more renown as patron of the arts.

Steward: Hispania should concentrate on achieving the previous Stewards' plans before starting new projects.

Chamberlain: With no candidate having presented himself before, I am nominating a man from whom I know that he wants to earn this honour, namely my son, Louis Clément, the new Duke of Trinacria. I wish to give the nobility something to think of as I ask: Is the title of Chamberlain too much responsibility? Why did you in majority support the reform if you don't want to take part in it?

Ferdinant IV: I cannot stress enough the fact that this claim should not be held true. It is a very weak link through a female line that has married a commoner. If such a claim would be recognized, then lower nobility might sell their daughters to rich merchants to see their descendants ascend to nobility, a practice which should neither be allowed nor encouraged. ((Ferdinant's Claim: No))
Besides, how can we consider claims on nobility in favour of the son of a known heretic and would-be assassin?

______________________________________________________

Name: Louis Clément de Montségur
Birth Date: 18th August, 1523
Religion: Catholic
Class: landed noble (duke)
Bio: The eldest son of Duke François of Trinacria, Louis Clément has built up quite the reputation in his youth for extensive feasts and celebrations of all kind in the Palazzo Castelozzi while his father was in Valencia. This wild period of his youth behind him, Louis participated in some wars, and settled down into his future role as duke, administering Trinacria. Pushed onwards by his sister, he began to set aside his hedonist ways, becoming more calculating and working towards a strong position within Hispania. With the death of his father, Hispania will now see another Montségur, one that isn't against waging wars, less economically oriented, but more militaristic and willing to extend the power of the nobility and his family.

To the court,

Today is a sad day for me as I reached the place where my father has died. Yet the succession falls to me, and I will do my best to be an as good servant to the kingdom as my father has been. I also present my candidature for the office of Chamberlain of the Cortz.
In these hard times for me, there are also good news: I hereby announce the betrothal of my son Denis Vincent and Isabel Sastre, may their future be happy.

Louis Clément de Montségur, Duke of Trinacria

Santiago found himself, not for the first time, simply staring at his darling son, reminiscing about his late Lucia. My son shall continue my legacy, and succeed where I have fail, Santiago thought to himself. While those filthy pirates may have thought they got away with their murder of my father, I have not forgotten. I will never forget. I am too old for the fight against the heathens; my son is not. My Alonso will be strong.

The next morning, at the Viceroy’s Estate in Nueva Granada, Santiago was in his study, thinking about his work. These stupid natives, why are they complaining about tariffs? We fought them for the land, we won. So uncivilized. He looked up, and through the window Santiago saw his son, Alonso, riding up to the stables. Because Alonso was only 8 and thus quite small, the only horse he could safely ride was a young pony. When he came into the house for lunch after a morning of study in the practice of war, Santiago decided to join him. Alonso greeted Santiago with a normal “Hello, Father.”

S: “Greeting, son. How are your studies going?”

A: “Quite well. My saber instructor tells me that I am progressing quite well, though my parry five into parry four needs work. How is your work?”

S: “I am paying my service to the crown with due diligence, but your instruction is my number one concern at the moment.”

A: “Father, may I venture to ask a question?”

S: “You may, my son, but I may not answer it.”

A: “All of the children with whom I interact once I have finished with instruction for the day have mothers, but where is my mother?”
Santiago immediately began to tear up. The resemblance between Lucia and Alonso was almost too great.

S: “Your mother, Lucia, was a beautiful woman and was the love of my life. She, however, passed away.”

A: “So she died?”

S: “Yes, you could put it that way. But let us talk about something else. I don’t want to discuss this any further.”

A: “But…”

Santiago, losing his temper roared at the top of his lungs. “NO! WE WILL NOT BE DISCUSSING THIS MATTER ANY FURTHER!” Alonso had only seen his father this mad when he learned that someone in the colonial government had been trying to stop his taxes on wool. Alas, Alonso thought, I suppose we won’t be talking about my mother anymore.

To the Court of Hispania,

The Viceroy to Nueva Granada's plan is to maintain business as usual, without enacting any special policies.

His Majesty, Ferran IV de Trastámara, King of Hispania & Galicia, and Protector of the Greeks & the Knights, wishes to invite all members of court to a jousting tournament to be held in celebration of the victory of Portugal. All are welcome to participate or simply attend.

((So our next event shall be a joust. I'm willing to let anyone participate regardless of class, although women will be excluded for obvious reasons unless they participate in disguise. I'll be doing a simple roll to determine the results, with it being modified by certain factors. For example, nobles will always do better than courtiers, who will in turn do better than clergy. Generals and conquistadors will get the biggest bonus, with admirals and explorers receiving a slightly smaller bonus. Age will also impact one's performance, with extremely young characters and older ones being penalized. I may add personal modifiers based on the character's specific background, such as a certain militant cardinal not receiving the clergy penalty. It should be noted that I am willing to let players allow multiple characters to participate, meaning that your active character's children or other relatives may participate. This is to help give us more participants and to not penalize players for having characters who are very old at this time. I'd prefer everyone to limit themselves to 1-3 participants each. Also, it should be noted that there is the possibility that any participant may be accidentally killed or injured in a bout. I'll be using mechanics similar to duels for this. Keep that in mind when deciding to join.

You do not have to participate in the actual joust to be part of the event. You may merely be present and converse with the others. Perhaps you could bet on specific jousts or, if you're feeling mischievous, attempt to sabotage someone or kill them during the bout. The last ones would require you to tell me beforehand either by PM or in a private post. If successful, the affected player would be more likely to fail or even get killed during the bout. If caught sabotaging a contestant, you'll lose one VP for the next vote or two and most likely make an enemy at court, or be put on trial if the person died. Obviously trying to murder the person would see you put on trial.

I'm thinking what I will do is have the joust done in rounds. Pairs will face off and the victors will move on to the next round until there is a single winner. The winner will receive the acclaim of their peers, gaining a bonus VP for the rest of their life (assuming they're an active character), being added to the Royal Order of the Light, and possibly receiving a favour from the king in recognition of their prowess. Each round will start with me announcing the pairs. I will then allow 24 hours for the participants to write up any IC of their preparations or to give players a chance to sabotage someone. After that time is up, I will write out the results of the joust. The winners then may write IC for the joust based on the results to ensure we don't get conflicting outcomes from having the loser post as well. Hopefully this all makes sense.

I will give players until Tuesday at 12pm PST to announce their participation, although I might make exceptions for latecomers if they announce their participation within 24 hours after the deadline. I'm not certain how long this event will last, but with Christmas coming up I am fine with letting it extend into next week. If a non-active character is participating, please provide me with an age and any information that may impact their performance in a joust.))

Your majesty,

My family has long secluded themselves on our island, and I believe it is time for us to support the kingdom more. I would offer myself as a member of the Cortz.

As well, my grandson, David Eugenio has informed me that he plans to attend the joust.

-Pablo David de la Iglesia y Maig

(( I think David Eugenio will be my next character in time, but I'm not quite ready to retire Pablo David. He is 17, having been born in 1559. Is it okay to send David Eugenio to the joust? I should read more closely to start with. ))

A joust? He vowed not to return to Aragon after the Church had received another insult from the nobles of the kingdom. But he had made that vow before and had still returned. Besides, mayhaps this would be a good chance to spread the word of the Counter Reformation. And he loved jousting....

I shall attend the joust.

Auguste was reading through latest reports and letter noticing a very special one, coming from the King himself. It was an invitation... to a jousting torunament! While Auguste was too old, his second son Matthias would gladly participate. Matthias served in a mercenary company until the pay was too low for him. Auguste would have to satisfy himself with some betting... He could, if he got lucky, get a small fortune out of this. Not that it mattered... Coin was never an issue. And so Auguste bought some equipment for his son, and he travelled to the jousting ground. His son on the other hand went to sign up for the tournament.

(( Matthias is 26 years old and he served in a mercenary company))

What a good opportunity to present himself at court. A joust. A bit antiquated maybe, but useful. He would enter it with pleasure. His family's fencing had always been excellent, even if that wouldn't matter much. But unlike his father, Louis was also a good rider and could certainly expect to pass some rounds. His younger brother Charles ((aged 50)) and his nephew Martin ((23)) would also join, and he at least wanted to be first of the family as it befits him.

Is it okay to send David Eugenio to the joust? I should read more closely to start with. ))

A small army of minor Etxeto men join the joust.

((I'll need ages for everyone so I can apply the appropriate modifiers. Also names would be helpful for the Etxeto men for announcing the bouts and their results.))
