In which case he'll blame the Germans and the war will continue... :eek:

Not likely, Secret Service knows who's behind the attack, remember?

You're not paying attention, boys. The attack on the PM was the work of Fah Loo Sue. To cover her tracks so that Fu Manchu doesn't realise she has lost control over Dr Morrell, remember? ;)

I'll be typing away at an update tonight methinks. Should be up very late tonight or tomorrow night.

grrr...so much for dramatic conclusion

Sorry if I spoilt your fun, jose1357, I didn't think I was giving anything away, simply reminding my readers of this passage a couple of updates back;

The Yogi said:
Above all things, she must prevent Fu Manchu from learning the truth for as long as possible, so that she could cover her tracks. The first, obvious, way her loss of Dr Morrell would become known to her father was if Hitler made peace with Britain. Fu Manchu had been most insistent that she never allow that to happen, apparently he wanted Britain fully engaged in Europe for some time to come. She might be able to prevent that from happening though. Apparently Lord Halifax, the new Prime Minister was a dove, while his natural replacement Winston Churchill was a hard-liner dead set against any settlement. Take out Halifax, and a continuation of the war would be insured.

Second, if Morrell died, for example from a heart attack or an accident, then Fu Manchu could not blame her for loosing her hold on Hitler, at least not to the point of considering her a traitor. He would be disappointed but that would mean some unpleasantness for her, rather than the living Hell she would get for treason.

Fah Loo Sue smiled and held the damning telegram over a candle until it burst into flame. It would take some care to send Si-Fan assassins to London and Berlin without her father ever finding out, and the assassins themselves could of course not be allowed to return from their missions alive… she had much work ahead.

Still, if Secret Service knows then Fu is bound to find out eventually. After all, who else would try and assasinate Halifax? Besides, Fah's in for quite a shock when Germany severs ties with the Pan-Asian Empire. I'm sure Mr. Manchu is NOT going to be happy about that. But don't keep us waiting, Yogi, update!

Berlin
Greater German Reich

December 6th, 1939

Dr Ferdinand Morrell watched around nervously as he walked at a brisk pace towards his car. The SD bodyguards were of course not far, following his every step. But they kept hidden, hoping to lure out any would-be assassins into the open where they could be dealt with. Still, Morrell had been assured that the Pan-Asians, and his terrible former mistress, did not yet know he was now working with the Abwehr and the SD to spread disinformation to them. They would learn any day now though, at least if the British accepted the Führer’s offer of peace. Then Morrell’s usefulness to the Reich would come to an end. He could only hope that Hitler would be merciful enough to forgive him his treason and spare his life. He had no such illusions about Fah Lo Suee though.

Jumping into the back seat of the special Mercedes with armour-plated doors and bullet-proof windows the SD had provided, Morrell instructed the driver (almost certainly a Gestapo-man too) to take him back to his apartment. He still went through the same daily routine as before his capture, spending the days at the Reich Chancellery (although not in the Führer’s actual company, Dr Brandt had taken over in that capacity) and slept in the stinking apartment next to his clinic. He had been permitted to clean the place up, but the bad smell still clung to the very walls of the place. This was also where, under SD supervision, he still communicated with Fah Lo Suee to receive instructions. He was looking forward to a stiff drink at home – that, in both the long and short run, was about all he had to look forward too these days.

The car pulled up in front of the door of the downtown fashionable apartment bloc where Morrell's clinic was located. As soon as the heavy vehicle came to a ponderous stop, Morrell’s fears, worries and anguish ended with irreversible suddenness.

The windshield of the car was proofed against ordinary bullets, but not against the 14mm steel-core bullet of a Boys anti-tank rifle. The Si-Fan assassin fired his bulky weapon from inside an apartment at the end of the street, some 300 meters away from the car. This was extreme range for the Boys rifle, but the assassin was a skilled marksman. The bullet punched right through the windshield and went through the unfortunate doctor’s skull slightly above the left eye. The precise point of impact would later be pinpointed by the SD forensic team, but in the great scheme of things it was of no great consequence, as Morrell’s entire head exploded to spatter the inside of the car. The assassin, having made sure that no muzzle flash was seen by firing from well inside the chosen apartment made a clean escape.

The use of a British weapon for the assassination might normally have made the SD assume that the assassin was British Secret Service, and while this possibility was not entirely discarded, it was considered far more likely that the Pan-Asians had blown Morrell’s cover as a double agent and taken steps to eliminate their turned spy. The real role of Morrell as a remote controller of Hitler, was of course kept in utmost secrecy and was known only to a handful of men, all of which had been present at its exposure a few weeks earlier.

Well, so much for Dr. Morrell, getting hit by a anti-tank rifle is quite fatal. It looks like Fah is doing a good job of covering up for her mistakes, but will it be good enough to fool the devil doctor?
