Hello!

Finally got around to pause CKII and try out EUIV. I have started a game as Venice and allied with Austria and Savoy. Got the mission to conquer Ragusa and Austria jumped the gun and joined in. So far so good and conquest done in eight months.

After that I got the possibility to remove Ferrara from the map but then I am unable to do that because "You are allied to the Emperor and he has recently gone to war." How long is recently and what will happen when that is no longer in effect. I hadn't really planned to play a warmonger and had allied with Austria in order to avoid them from stabbing me in the back but was this alliance a mistake or?

What it actually means is "You can't declare war on a HRE-member while you're involved in a war with the emperor", so it goes away when whatever war you're fighting with them is over. This is to prevent people from attacking HRE-members without giving the emperor a chance to defend them.

The alliance is not a mistake, but it's not very helpful offensively. Austria will still (usually) fight you if you attack anyone in the HRE, like Ferrara.

Yes, I played on for a couple of months. It seemed like the magic number was 12 months after Austria and I started the war against Ragusa since then I was able to declare war against Ferrara. However both Austria and Milan jumped in to their defense in spite of an alliance and a truce. Seems like this was a really really bad idea.. =)
