It seems fit to me that a monarch that has the Emperor title should enjoy a substantial bonus to demesne size, say 2x King limit. Is it possible to script this by editing game files ?

The Byzantine Emperor already gets that desmene bonus.

You can't code a similar desmene bonus for people with the Emperor trait. You can mod it so it increases intrigue, which indirectly increases the desmene bonus. First back up db/trait.txt so that if you screw up you can fix it easy. Then open it in a text-editor.

Emperor should read:
Code:
emperor = {
	periodic_score = { prestige = 5 }
}
To add 1 to the Imperial intrigue imply add this line:
Code:
attributes = { martial = 0 stewardship = 0 diplomacy = 0 intrigue = 1 }
So it will read
Code:
emperor = {
	periodic_score = { prestige = 5 }
	attributes = { martial = 0 stewardship = 0 diplomacy = 0 intrigue = 1 }
}

You can't double the Imperial desmene limit this way, but you can increase it. This will also make it more likely an Emperor will get intrigue-related events, which won't always make sense.

Im not sure bout scripting but 2X king limit? - dont u think thats a bit much. I mean if u have a ruler with v.good intrigue then u could control ~50 provinces. Takes some of the fun away by not needing vassals much.

In saying that, i think most ppl were a bit disappointed with the lack of anything substantial from the emperor trait; it does deserve something better than a slight increase in prestige, but not anything that drastically upsets the balance of the game. The emperor trait just seems thrown in as a little extra, not something meant to be a big deal. But hey, thats just my view.

While on the subject of emperors, it would have been nice to have extra emperor titles and not just traits. For instance, emperor of all spain/spaniards/iberia was an actual claim carried by kings of castille and leon for several generations, so would have been nice once u gain all king titles on the peninsula.

Sorry i coundnt help with the scripting, but i think this is something that could be good as a proper mod instead of editing the trait.

Isn't double normal King limit what the Byz Emperor already gets IIRC ? I want ALL Emperors (MOST definitely including the WRE/HRE/Carolingian one) to have the same bonus.

Well, I agree about this, I would love for the the Carolingian Imperial title to be available if you unite the crowns of France, Burgundy, Italy, and Germany.

^Sorry if i was unclear, i was talking bout if u had a demense bonus for the emperor trait (u know, gained after holding 5 or more king titles), then it would be a bit cheesy. It would mean someone with 5 crappy king titles (eg navarra, wales, etc) could get the same bonus as the mighty (well before it falls apart lol) byzantine empire. But im getting off topic, this is just my speculations.

Byzantine emperor does already get that bonus, so i dont see why other emperors shouldnt too; although holding loads of provinces as Germany wouldnt really reflect the often instable beast that was the HRE. Maybe Paradox purposely left out the 2X king modifier for germany for this reason. Who knows.

Personally i think EUIII (with IN and NA) did the HRE best, with the country controlled by the emperor protecting the other countries belonging to the empire. It meant that it could be weak or powerful depending on what ruler became emperor. Thus a measure of power but also possible instability.

Historically i dont see a reason why a Emperor should have a bigger demesne, because while a King often manged to improve his personal imfluence inside his country a Emperor was often distracted with his numerous challenges all over Europe that he often had problems to hold onto his power base, so the effects oo being Emperor on someones Powerbase are more negative than positive. IMO this only changed with the Habsburgs who could use their Imperial power to establish a core country significantly bigger then what they started with.

How do you become emperor of anything ? (excluding Byzantium)
There's an event. If you've got five King-titles, 10 Duke-vassals, aren't modest, and are Catholic the Pope may make you an Emperor. This is a cool trait that gives you slightly more prestige every year, but not much else.

You can also do it with three King-titles, if they happen to be King of Germany Italy and Burgundy. AKA the historical Holy Roman Empire.

The "Byzantine" Emperor is the only true Emperor, the heir of Augustus Caesar, Defender of the Faith, Ruler of all the World, Equal of the Apostles of Christ.

The German upstart is merely an unwashed barbarian swine crowned by a heretic bishop.
