Since 1.2 has very good user friendly enhancement telling the player exactly how good are the chances for getting a targeted countru to alliance/coup/mil access I have another suggestion which could improve this.

Since all countries have their embassies all over the world, or at least in major countries, it would be great to get a pop up message from your ambassador informing you that a country has 25 or more percent chance of getting into your alliance, or to be couped etc. So, you have the option to react. Now, you would have to open diplo and to look every week for the changes.

After all it is realistic, because ambassadors job is to do such things

This is an awesome Idea and I'd be glad to bump this thread.

More information would be a good thing, and a few other ideas come to mind.

A nation with a low opinion of you can shut down your embassy.
Embassies should also tell you if a nation has a shortage of resources, or even the warscore of a war the host nation is fighting in.
Could tell you the Scientific advances of the host nation.

This is an outstanding idea!

It could be like in the Civ games; You can build a embassy in other country's capital for X amount of money where X is the distance between your capital and his.

Once you build one, when you choose a country in the diplomacy screen you can use it to see how advanced the country is in the technology tree, their warscore, etc (Like Blue Max said) and you could have improved chances of couping and stealing technologies. You could also have the option to shut it down which worsens the relationship between the two countries.
