Elector title distribution help?

Tonight, I intend to conquer and move my capital to Rome. I already hold the duchy of thrace, so I worry ill take an opinion hit for also holding the duchy of latium. My capital in Constantinople is fantastic, highly developed, and I don't wanna lose it when I move to Rome, at least not immediatly. It's the source of the bulk of my levies, alongside the rest of thrace and 3 counties in Bulgaria. so how can I have my capital in rome without losing my demesne or taking an opinion hit for mutliple elector titles?

Or is rome good enough that I can comfortably give away thace? none of the counties of thrace give me fewer than 1500 levies, and I was able to take alexandria and jerusalem using only my personal levies, retinues, and varangians.

You can hold the county without holding the duchy title, so you could destroy one or other of those.

Keep the duchy of Trace.

Now if you are attacking for the whole duchy of Latium. Then I might just destroy the ducal title of Latium after I take it. You like me only ever want Rome. Can Rome be as good a capital as Constantinople, arguably perhaps. But as a capital duchy Thrace is I think better then Latium.

And really a golden rule for any emperor is you never give up the city of world's desire(Constantinople), or what I refer to in my head as the crown of Greece (Thrace).

Have I destroyed the duchy title of Thrace, while keeping the counties, once or twice to avoid similar penalties. But in your situation it makes more sense I think to destroy the duchy of Latium because that will only piss off two insignificant counts, who already hate you. As opposed to the many barons of Thrace hating you that do make up your core.

Keep all of Thrace, keep Rome, destroy the ducal title of Latium. If your still having demesne problems give Jerusalem to someone. I often make it a Prince Archbishopric and use to disinherit brothers. Keep Alexandria build up the trade post there.

Heh, now I feel like a dummy giving alexandria to a strategos. Trade post would have been a great idea. On that note, I'm wondering, should I turn croatia into a surene republic? I gave the duchy of croatia to a patrician, to help fund my capital.

And no. There exist plenty of republics at the start of most games. I rarely see the need or benefit of making a normally feudal area into one. Especially so large as a king sized one.

I don't even see the point in making more then one at any given time. They are essentially just extra ornery vassals that are impossible to buy down (forcing you to use the other tools council, favors, titles,). And while there is some benefit to maximizing trade posts that does flow up to you.

The lack of speed in which they build trade posts, and their orneriness means eh I stick with one.

So currently there are two merchant republics, dioclea and croatia, which provide me with on average 36g a month. I want to pass the feudal tax law but I know that my feudal electors will despise that.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if I can balance that by lowering feudal levies. I do not have conclave. about 1000 of my levies come from the barons and mayors of counties in my demesne. for big wars, I typically rely on levies drawn from my own personal holdings, which makes war expensive but mitigates opinion hits from electors.

Now regarding the restoration of rome, is it enough that rome be part of my demesne or can I still have rome as my capital while holding the duchy of thrace and destroying latium?

As long as it's part of your empire, you're good. You don't need to hold the duchy title or even have Rome be part of your personal demesne...

I'd suggest you don't move the capital to Rome unless you want to role play. You don't get anything for taking the decision to move to Rome other than your capital being moved.

Rome is usually not very good because of all the bishoprics that get built. Also you will lose a good chunk of your levy when you move because you will no longer have the capital and capital duchy levy bonuses in Thrace.

As far as the restoration of Rome you only need to control it just like any of other duchy on the list. Rome doesn't need to be your capital to restore the Roman Empire.

That would make sense. Turns Out I got worked up for nothin! I now hold both Thrace and Latium, and nobody gives a damn(side from two counts and the king of lombardy, but nobody cares about him). And soon Lombardy is going to tear itself a part in revolts between the catholic merchants and the orthodox king. XD Same goes for the poor King of France; half his subjects are still catholic...

An interesting side effect of this event: I can now nominate myself as King of Lombardy; if I succeed, I'll simply give the title to a Viceroy.
