My last game brought me to something I’ve never seen before, and I hope to find someone with an explanation.
I try to keep it short:
I played as the King of Bavaria starting with the Charlemagne Bookmark. I’ve chosen the elective succession since there is only one duke next to me (theocratic) and I was able to choose the best dynasty members to be successors – it worked pretty good and vassals have been happy to have a (non-existing) choice.
Everything was fine until I’ve took the crown of the Lombardic Kingdom... Lombardy had the gavelkind succession law, which means:
· My favorite & 3rd oldest Son would get Bavaria (Elective Succession)
· My first-born son would get Lombardy/Italy (Gavelkind Succession)
To prevent title loss, I’ve made my Lombardic vassals happy and switched to elective monarchy in order to destroy the 2nd Kingdom title…and then the Bug(?) started to play around:
Suddenly my favorite & 3rd oldest Son wasn’t able to be chosen as the Bavarian successor… all other sons neither. Only my Cousin (dunno where he came from) and my grandson have been able to be nominated. Although elective monarchy counts only for de-jure vassals, all Lombardic dukes could have been nominated as the Bavarian successor as well… even another foreign King who had absolutely no relationship to Bavaria…
I started wondering what’s the reason for this issue, my sons:
· Had no titles
· Lived at my court
· Are non-excommunicated Christian of German culture
· Aren’t married
· Aren’t theocratic rulers or nominated theocratic rulers
· Had no "technical" difference to dynasty members I could choose (no special bloodlines etc.)
· Not imprisoned
· Not blinded or whatever….
I’ve destroyed the Kingdom title of Italy and nothing changed. I granted my favorite son a duke title in Italy as well (since every Lombardic vassal was able to be nominated) -> nothing changed.
Has someone seen/experienced this? It never happened to me before.
