I'm playing as Poland and am finding the Elective Monarchy government type to be over powered. With this government type foreign dynasties can inherit the throne, but the throne can never actually be claimed. It's immune to being taken over by a Personal Union basically. However, when foreign dynasties inherit the throne they can bring their PUs with them. So, what's happening is that I'm collecting HRE states like Pokémon. I've gotten PUs over three HRE states and surprisingly when the leader changes the PU isn't lost. I'm way over my diplomatic relations limit and there's no end in sight for all the PUs I'm collecting.

Honestly, I think you just got lucky (or unlucky) with all the PUs. I have never successfully gotten a PU as the Elective Monarchy except for the decision one of Lithuania (I've about 12 games as Poland). But my only advice is: Gotta Integrate Them All!

Well, I may be getting lucky or unlucky, but I don't think it makes sense for a PU to continue when your ruling dynasty completely changes to another family.

Riekopo, then you might aswell change that for normal PU's aswell. Since the dynasty can change even in normal PU's.

But mind you, I don't agree with this is a solution.

As a side note. Have you tried pokemoning with Claim Throne and using the Succession War CB(or whatever it is called)

Easy Bohemia or (less likely) Hungary for Poland (they don't always go rival on you now, esp Bohemia). Just pray they get Your heir before electing their own. After that - > claim and dow asap. Austria is likely next cause of their high ability to produce Habsburg heirs.
Once I got PU over (rather oversize) France (since they got Hapsburg from Austria as well :) ).
The only drawback is: can't go republic during 'struggle for royal power' (and I want to cause plutocracy idea is awesome). If you do, you loose all your PU's, republics can't have PU's, and having more than 1 PU prevents forming CW early 'just for a moment' to get the ideagroup unlocked.

Elective monarchy, with the sejm should be completely overhauled - it doesn't represent the way it worked at all! First of all, countries supporting heir should be able to choose wether they want to appoint their own monarch(causing personal union between their country and PLC until the ruler's death) or some relative or even their heir. Secondly, elective monarchy shouldn't work the way it does during union with Lithuania - supporting an heir should occur if: 1) Poland loses union with Lithuania; 2) Commonwealth is formed. I could go on about the sejm mechanics etc. the topic's so long it deserves its own suggestion thread.

Martin. What you are suggesting would be negative to gameplay. It would quickly make being an elective monarchy a punishment, and quickly turn it into one of the worst government forms.

Well... because it was an awful government. Anyway, I don't see why do you think it would handicap the gameplay - personal union over player controlled Poland/Commonwealth could be disabled. Also - country with elective monarchy should have more to say about who will be the next ruler - using legitimacy to raise support for Polish monarch is very simplified and the fact that Polish heir always has a weak claim makes no sense.

Not necessarily. Just because Plc would get a PU over let's say France, France still would stay a feudal monarchy with the old succession laws snd it wouldn't change to electiv monarchy. As soon as the king dies a new would be elected for PLC, King of france would be the son of the former king. If both would be the same the PU still goes on, if not... not.
