Elections for fascists?

In today's stream, I saw that Hungary was fascist, but I saw also "Next elections 1939"
Elections? There shouldn't be elections under fascism
Also, why was France almost half fascist?

Let me explain it to you. Hungary was a Kingdom between 1000 and 1918. After the Treaty of Trianon, the Kingdom was restored but the Habsburgs were dethronemented. Lots of stuff happened between 1918 and 1920(communist takeover for a few months, Romania marches into hungarian lands etc).
So, after 1920, we needed somebody to rule. De jure we were in regency, and Miklós Horthy was our Regent. Although his title was kormányzó, but its kind of the same thing. But our nation had a parliament, had their parties, had elections. The ideology was fascist, the form of the government was a Kingdom, but we haven't had a king.

If one was really nitpicky, many autocracies have elections too. In North Korean elections you can either vote in support or opposition of the state-appointed candidate

a) the popularity of a ideologies are parties at the time is what it represented in the circles. If you do not understand the politics of the timeperiod that sounds like a question for google to help you with.

I thought that fascism wasn't that popular among the french
And "there shouln't be elections under fascism" is more of: "I thought that fascism in game was supposed to represnt fascist dictatures", not simply the party that is in power

I suppose in the game nothing would stop you from making Petain's regime far more popular, or even pushing France into the direction of fascism before the war. Isn't there even a NF line with France aligning with Germany?

:shrugs: In real life, things were very complicated in the politics of various combatants in WWII. Having flexible mechanics, as long as they are not open to abuse, should help model situations like Hungary.

Fascism can have elections. Sure the options (if there even is multiple options) are all from and approved of by the ruling Party, and the elections may or may not be rigged, but they're elections. Poor, not very democratic or representative elections, but nonetheless elections.

There's actually a whopping three parties who get their people elected - the dominant workers' party, the social democratic party and the Chondoist party. Sure, they're all part of the coalition led by workers' party, and thr lesser two are essentially puppets, but hey, three is more than two, so suck on that, USA
