    Real Strategy Requires Cunning

This thread is more than 5 months old.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

Reports of a native uprising in the Spanish Niger have reached the mainland. It appears that one of the former Caliph's sons has renounced Christianity, claimed the title of Caliph, and raised a large army of tribesmen and savages to kill every Spaniard in the colony. The elderly exile Carlos Maria de Alvear y Ponce de Leon, commander of the troops in the Spanish Niger, organized a defense of the colony, but there were too many enemy troops. He and his battalions ultimately sacrificed themselves fighting to the death to protect the settlers, with Alvear y Ponce de Leon killing several rebels and the Caliph's renegade son before he was finally cut down by savages. Reinforcements from the coast, led by Alvear y Ponce de Leon's son Juan Felipe, managed to finish off what remained of the rebels and restore order and security to the colony.

((Well, sorry for taking too long to formally kill off my character. I'm not sure if I want to create a new character yet, but I don't plan on officially resigning yet. I'll just watch and see what happens next before I decide to jump back in. Could someone help me catch up on what happened in Spain and around the world since the 1870s?))

The Ban on the People's Party is legally largely invalidated due to the Protection of the Public Movements Act:

"We do hereby resolve that all sanctioned political parties - which shall and do include all Parties seated in this Assembly - shall be treated as equals before the law, furthermore, the directive for the exclusion of the People's Party includes a line that says De Valle was removed from his fuctions as dignatery of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, which is blatently untrue, which further invalidates the illegal actions undertakimg against the People's Party.

((When the bill on Protection on Movements was passed, it was specifically checked with naxhi that this line does not mean that all current parties are considered eternal and nonbreakable and that the license still can be revoked under the Act to Recognize and Legitimate Political Parties. Otherwise this bill would never have been allowed to pass, since it would make political parties uncontrolable entities that can all kinds of lillegal stuff without the possibility to restrain them

The fact that you proposed stuff without checking whether I confirmed your party members does not change anything))

((It is technically impossible in any legislature in the world for non-members of government or the legislature to propose acts, furthermore, it is the legal meaning of the Law, otherwise, if we looked only to the IG reform, your actions would still be illegal))

((They are completely legal under the Act to Recognize and Legitimate Political Parties, which is, I must remind, considered a fundamental law of the state. The matter on the meaning of the law you mentioned was checked with the GM. A ban on illegal harassment has nothing to do with the legal actions for violations under the Act and the loss of the confidence of the Crown by the party leader. I must also remind that the Crown as the supreme source of all authority, including judicial, is the final construer of laws it signs into force and not yourself.))

((As the Spanish Law system does not differentiate between decrees and laws passed upon the advice of the Assembly, as both are decrees, because this Assembly is de jure metely consultative, the older law has no power to overrule the newer law, as the most recent law can be seen as the most legitimate of the two, which renders your point moot. Your royal authority drivel does hold true, but it would render all IG reforms moot, which would mean only text mattered and then it would mean the law we passed and you decreed would hold power and make those "legal" actions illegal, no way you turned it))

((1. This is not a matter of decrees versus laws, but a matter of different categories of laws/decrees. The Act to Recognize and Legitimate Political Parties was specifically outlined as having a fundamental/organic nature, thus all later decrees should correspond to this act and it has precedence, unless I specifically changed the fundamental law. The law was not said to be amendment to the fundamental law of the realm and was not considered as such.

2. The lG reform has no connection to the recent situation. "Harassment - the ruling party no longer uses violence against the opposition, but they are endlessly heckled and inconvenienced by ruling party goons and government officials. At this level, ruling party support is improved by 13,04%." It relates to actions which are illegal or exist due to lapses in the law and lead to discrimination towards parties and are made by *ruling party* . It does not relate to legal measures by top state authority (for the Crown is not a ruling party, it stand above parties) of revoking a party license or forbidding it to form due to violation of a law on parties. This requirements apply to all parties equally and therefore not discriminative.

I must remind you that even today parties can be banned or simply forbidden to form for the reasons set in law.

3. Knowing that you very well might use that sentence to justify the fact that your party license should be eternal and irrevokable, I specifically discussed it with naxhi. At this point he ensured me that construing it in such way is absurd.

However I suggest that we stop discussing in this thread and bring it to another place))

((Even if you accept that, which is already quite a strech, the fact that the main problem with the Party is its leader and the main reasons given for that are not even true, the legal case for banning the party is as weak as or even weaker than your arguments trying to invalidate past laws))

It is quite clear by now that this advisory body is merely a farce. The purpose of the Royal Assembly is to advise His Majesty and it has no power to legislate on its own, which in an absolute monarchy such as our own is completely reasonable. However, as we are seeing by recent events, "advise" actually means "reconfirm existing beliefs". If the Royal Assembly presents a view contrary to the beliefs of His Majesty's government, it gets ignored or pushed aside. As a minister myself, I have had my own actions hindered because they did not follow Pontevedro's guidelines. It is quite clear that the opinion of the people of Spain does not matter, for Pontevedro and his like will govern for His Majesty as they please, regardless of what His Majesty's subjects actually want. Seeing as the advice of this body does not matter, for the outcome will be decided by the government in the end, I shall vote yes to all matters up to a vote. Personally, I have not read or listened to a single one. I have no idea what I'm even voting for other than the names of the acts. In the end, it does not matter what I vote here. My voice does not matter, and neither does the voices of the people of Spain.

"Democracy has been Crippled Here"

It did not take long for the leader of the People's Party, Don Francisco de Valle, to be arrested and sent to prison. It did not take long for the King's words to reach the Audience, preventing the People's Party members, over ninety in total, from taking part in proceedings. It did not take long for all de Valle's media outlets, his papers, his pamphlets, and anything that printed pro-PP articles to be shut down. Under orders from King Felipe himself, the People's Party was cast out of the political scene almost overnight. The King himself stated that de Valle for too long had been adamant against the monarchical nature of the nation, and accused him of anti-monarchical sentiment. He cited de Valle's willingness to argue to not intervene in Portugal and negotiate with whoever wins, something that Felipe believed was de Valle arguing to let his brother in-law be removed. Felipe cited de Valle's constant bills that stretch the line of what the Audience can legally propose. Felipe cited de Valle's bills that question many of the laws Felipe put into place, especially if they were pushing forward reforms started by the Compromise of 1873. The Marquis of Pontevedra himself was happy to carry out the King's work by issuing a warrant for de Valle's arrest. The censorship bureau also was happy to obey their King in hunting down any media outlet that supported de Valle or his party. Felipe stated that the People's Party would be allowed back into the Audience, and the suspension lifted if they replaced de Valle with someone "less radical" in nature.

However, if King Felipe believed that by doing this, he could restore "order" and "stability" to Spain following the previous election, he was dead wrong. After his messages to the previous ministers stating he would keep the government the same was leaked, many who opposed the Royalists and Pontevedra (who was assumed to be keeping the position of First Minister, leading to a "minority" government) began to protest this move. Many craftsmen in Spain though chose not to protest, for they believed the Royalists were the lesser of two evils compared to the "fat-wealthy and poor-hating Yellows" that would most likely replace them. Those that did, protested simply against the Royalists or for some sort of political reform. Seville, Andalusia, and Granada, areas with heavy PP influence, became hot spots for protests against the government. With de Valle's arrest, this sentiment against the government only got worse. In Extramuerda, effigies of Pontevedra were hung and burned. In Granada, socialist workers (unconfirmed to be related to the Socialist Party) went on strike to protest de Valle's arrest. Riots broke out all across the south as regional militias were called in to quell the chaos. As the south fell into chaos, members of Los Amarillos began to state their discontent at the system. Fernando Armando Hernando Rolando Fernández, the Minister of Justice, stated that "It is quite clear that the opinion of the people of Spain does not matter, for Pontevedro and his like will govern for His Majesty as they please, regardless of what His Majesty's subjects actually want.". His fellow Los Amarillos members though have been silent on the matter. The Autonomists have also remained silent on the matter. Grand Duke Roma has even been rumored to be in confidence with the current government a long with the other Autonomist members.

Divides were being made across the Kingdom as PP supporters cried out for their leader's release, other parties stated they felt their voice is nothing compared to Pontevedra's, and accusations that this democracy was a sham rose sharply. If King Felipe wishes to calm his people down, he needs to be wise in his next few decisions...

A Declaration for All Those Who May Read This

A March from Seville to Madrid to Spread Awareness for the Imprisoned Francisco de Valle

Join us in hopes of convincing Madrid to release the man.

We as one voice shall cry out for our friend!

May God will our mission to be a success!

(The following pamphlet was spread by anonymous people across Southern Spain)

If we are to continue to press forward the ideas of democracy and liberalism in this country, we cannot allow our party to be forced underground. If we are to succeed, the People's Party of Spain must adopt a more moderate resolution and support democratic ideals where the current laws allows. The People's Party must realize that we need to persuade those who benefit the most from the current system to reform before true reform can take place. I ask Don Francisco to allow a more moderate candidate to take over as leader so that we can continue to spread democratic and liberal ideas in a country that craves and needs it. If we continue down this path of fast reform, we will be eliminated faster then those officers who were captured by the Spanish army in Portugal. We must realize that the King and his government are not going to be friendly towards us, and that we must earn their trust before our ideas can be implemented.

That pamphlet was torn down wherever possible, and agents were quickly dispatched to see who exactly was putting them up - Pontevedra did not appreciate the defacement of buildings with such filth, nor did he care much for the idea of a march from Seville. He alerted the authorities there to prepare for the worst, whilst similarly moving more policemen and secret policemen to the city. He began theorising possible routes from Seville to Madrid and began to make preparations in that regard.

*The Duke of Menorca sighs at the laziness of the Spanish political class compared to the strong work-ethic of the common man*

"Efficiency is key. The more you can do for less is the more you can do with your free time."

Idiom definitely not attributed to the Duque de Menorca, the inefficient bastard that he is.
