Cazadores of the Army of Andalusia
((Private))
...General. It had not been long that Alejandro de la Casa had held the post. It was new not only to himself, but to his former men. Now he found himself no longer the commander of a single regiment of cazadores, but of many other regiments. He had designed a banner in haste, fearing some sort of an immediate confrontation, but, much to his particular dismay, he was spending his time waiting. Drilling and waiting. He feared for the morale of his men. They were a relatively inexperienced group - but that would change soon. He said a silent prayer for his men. Lord have mercy on their souls.

De la Casa rode into the main portion of the encampment. He had tasked his chief of staff with examining the regiments of line and the heavy cavalry, but the General had reserved light infantry and cavalry for himself. The first unit to examine was a group of cazadores de pie. As he entered into their camp, he was met with a shout of "¡Atención!" The General smiled to himself. He examined the uniforms of a group of enlistees. They were worn with threads coming undone. He made an aside to his aide, telling him to remember to place a request with Madrid for new uniforms for the Cazadores de Carmona.

After completing his first set of rounds, the General stopped into a nearby field chapel. The chaplain was a young man, no more than thirty, most likely a very recent graduate of the seminary. In the chapel were a number of enlisted men praying the rosary. De la Casa smiled and joined them for the Sorrowful Mystery. They came in every form of Spaniard. Tall, short, young, old, veteran, recruit, career, and draftee. The youngest men smiled while the eldest men frowned on their behalf. The General sighed heavily. Good men will die in this war.

THE ALBA CHRONICLES (V) - ((Private))
Don Miguel Garcia Fitz-James y Silva looked at this troops with a stern gaze. Young and of more senior age, volunteers and conscripts, professional soldiers and yesterday peasants - they were all now a part of the Northern Army, a Royalist Army, the Army of Castille. And now the many mouthes were repeating the same words after a tall lanky chaplain, Monsignor Hernandes.
- Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you.... - the Duke of Alba was murmuring together with his men and the thin priest, his eyes half-closed. While their enemies often insulted them as the scions of Devil himself, the new Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Army would make sure that the help of God is with the righteous cause. And each Catholic within his troop would receive the Sacraments and guidance of the clergy. - O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

When the sermon was finished, the priest sprayed the lions, eagles and lilies of the royal Bourbon banner flattering in the wind with holy water. Then the newly minted Captain-General of Navarre, Asturias, Galicia, and Castille Viejo looked at the ranks with a heavy gaze. Atop his black steed, with a long cloak of red silk over the hussar pelisse, he looked in many ways like a knight of old. The Duke of Alba was silent for a few moments and then spoke up in a booming voice. - Soldiers! Very soon you would fight - fight not only for Queen, given to you by the God above, but everything that constitutes the Spanish way of life. You fight for order, for law and for liberty of your country. And it is not a honorable war where you would meet opponents who would abide to fair play. You would meet bandits to whom honor and rules clear mean nothing, since they wish to ignore both the Divine and Royal will, both the voice of the Traditions and of the Written Law and are ready to kill their own brothers in blood and religion to achieve their aims...

The top officers surrounding Alba nodded in agreement. Don Miguel, as the warm wind was fanning his hair and beard, continued his speech. - You are today fighting for your families, for your future, for your lives. For under a despotic ruler who values no other law but his own whims, would notyour property, your women, your freedom be endangered every day and every moment? And would not an evil man who is clearly ready not to spare his own little niece to sit upon the Throne spare anybody who crossed him after his ascension? Think about that as you go to battle. The Christino soldiers started to whisper, clearly expressing their consent with these suggestions. A fat Brigadier General, who was constantly wiping his sweaty forehead with a big black handkerchief, shouted. - Silence! The Duke of Alba, in meanwhile, was finishing his monologue. - Think of that as you go to battle. As for those who oppose us...Anybody who lays down arms would be spared, we would bring the rule of legal principles to the provinces occupied by rebels. But these whom we would find threatening the Queens peace would never breath the Spanish air again, to this I do swear with the noble crest of my ancestors...

Then he rode away, followed by a few commanders. Unsaddling, the General walked into his tent and sat down, looking at the map. The cartographers have painted it in various colors. Each bit of the picture that indicated strong Carlist presence in this or that province made the Duke of Alba frown angrily. He was entrusted with hard and gruesome work - but it should be done for the Queen and Fatherland. - Do you believe it would be a quick campaign, Your Excellency? - Major Montcada, the new aide-de-campe to Alba, asked, when he brought a number of documents for the signature. - Only the Almighty knows for how long these ruffians can sit in their mountains... - the Captain General grumbled absent-mindedly. His thoughts were clearly very far away...

A MANIFESTO from the DUKE of ALBA to VOLUNTARIOS REALISTA ((approved by Maxwell))

My brothers!

I address you today not only as a Representative of Her Catholic Majesty, Queen Isabella the Second, and Her supreme commander within the regions of Navarre, Asturias, Galicia, and Castille Viejo, but as one of your own, that has, together with 200 000 other loyal servants of the Crown and upon the call of His Catholic Majesty, King Ferdinand VII, put on the cockade of Bourbons in 1823.

Our Corps has since then proudly served the Throne, putting the loyalty to its sacrosanct authority as the main principle of our existence. We have opposed not only the Jacobin radicals, but also the antimonarchist reactionaries in Valencia, Aragon and Basque Country. We were one of the solid foundations upon the which the might and independence of the Crown and the unity of the Country could rest.

However, today the Monarchy is even in a more grave danger that it was before and we have to meet far more viable threats than in the years that passed, for false prophets try to speculate on the ideals that are dear to us in order to achieve their gruesome aims.

For the moment when His Catholic Majesty, King Ferdinand VII, has closed His eyes is when His brother, Infante Carlos and his supporters, have demonstrated their treacherous natures. The decrees of Himself and His ancestors are ignored - for Carlists put Carlos above the Law and even above the Divine Right of Kings. Our deceased Sovereign, to whom Carlos and servants have before slavishly bowed, is now called an unlawful ruler, His daughter and wife are insulted in most brutish terms- for Carlists have no morality and no respect to the memory of the passed. The interests of the Nation are sold out to separatists - for the Nation and the State do not exist for Carlists, who see our land only as their own fief., Heretical priests among the Carlists disregard the will of the Holy Father, who wants them to support the constitutional order and withdraw their support from the Rebels and Don Carlos appoints a Secretary to manage the Church for him- for Gods and Church are only tools for the Carlists, who clearly possess no true religious feeling or respect for the Papacy.

The shadow of our father, of our master, of our Royal founder, His Catholic Majesty, King Ferdinand VII, calls out to us. His last wish on his deathbed was that the natural rights of His daughter and heir are protected. And we, His chosen, should defend Her throne from the usurper, if it is the last deed we commit in this world. Remember that today we guard not only the Sceptre of our August Queen, but Her life and safety as well. For Carlos of Molina would, it seems, not stop even if he has to murder an innocent woman and a baby to put on the bloody crown. By his behavior, this prince has demonstrated that he is not a caballiero, what good can be expected from him?

Come to me, the Royalist Volunteers! Come to me, leaving your garrisons and chapters and join the Northern Army, the shield blocking the Realm from the hordes of the guised Republicans, Bonapartists and Separatists. Upon the orders of Her Majesty the Queen-Regent of Spain, I do promise to you: you would be rewarded greatly. The lands and property that would be lawfully confiscated from these criminal noblemen who have dared to move against the Throne would be granted to the faithful and you would receive the rights of the Royal Guard, taking even a more honored position under the Crown.

Come to me and assist to prevent the devolution of our Kingdom into a rump, where Carlos is both Law, God and Pope, a Babylonian Idol alien both to the Christian Tradition and a concept of a Civilized State.

A crowd assembles close to the Palacio de Gobierno in Bilbao, and around the plazas. The people cheers, for Carlos V is back in Spain. Addressing the crowd is Don Artai Amaro de Soutomaior y Andrade, shortly after receiving the news the King had appointed him to positions in the Cabinet of State.

"Rejoice, people of España! And fear no more the treacherous liberals who assemble in Madrid! Soon this war will be over! Take care of your families and fields, and conserve your faith! For a new España is rising, a new España blessed with divine power, as it was in our most glorious days!

I am honoured to present, for the first time, here in Bilbao, under the gaze of Rey Carlos V and his loyal people, the Marcha de Carlos V, composed by myself, which will guide our armies into battle and soothe the spirit of those who are not in the frontlines!

Marcha de Carlos V
Por España, la tierra que tanto amor nos dá
Lutaremos hoy y hasta el infinito.
Pues la gracia de Nuestro Señor que aqui hoy está
Nos acalma y asombra el enemigo!

DIOS, PATRIA, FUEROS, REY!
NO DEJAMOS DE CANTAR!
YA SE AVISTA NUESTRA GLORIA!
DIOS, PATRIA, FUEROS, REY!

Cuando Carlos, el libertador, se regresó
El rugir del Paraíso lo ha bendito
Y la gente que lucha ahora se levantó
Por España, por Imperio y por Cristo!

DIOS, PATRIA, FUEROS, REY!
NO DEJAMOS DE CANTAR!
YA SE AVISTA NUESTRA GLORIA!
DIOS, PATRIA, FUEROS, REY!

War Era Chronicles of HSH Alejandro de Soneta di Belmonte

Despite the proud declarations of war that each side had wagered, Alejandro was yet to see any conflict. Perhaps that was because he decided to try avoid it if he could or perhaps, and Alejandro hoped, that Infante Carlos was being most unsuccessful in his warmongering. Alejandro was still most surprised by the audacity of the man, he seemed to have it set upon his mind that he was right for the throne, but with the pragmatic succession decree passed 3, nearly 4 years ago, surely he must realise the folly of his actions. There was reason behind the idea that both Alejandro and Miguel had proposed peace talks at the Cortes, a proposition slighted by the entirety of court, much to both nobles disappointment.

Letters occasionally found their way to him, increasingly challenging given the circumstances, and Alejandro's ongoing moving from place to place, that kept him informed. It seemed that the righteous cause had been able to feed a mass host, numbering over 100,000. To think that many people are able to pick arms and fight staggered the green blooded Prince, but so long as the leading majority of the troops were on Queen Isabella's side, all could be well in the world. Perhaps he should go meet the troops, it would be most stirring to his heart to see the strength and the men that would lead this nation to a great new era of stability and prosperity. Yes, he would do just that. And thus HSH Alejandro de Soneta di Belmonte set it about his mind to meet the front line.

To the Holy Father Gregory XVI,

I write to inform you of the dire circumstances which have come to pass in Spain. A hush has fallen over the Church. Even those whom I still call friend, who nonetheless find themselves distant from me in both sentiment and space, speak in most distressed tones about their fear of reprisal. Fear not of the liberals, though this happens as well, but of those in their own service. Young priests, many not even priests in their fullness, have taken to the streets to preach against those in your church which you have raised to a position of authority. They rouse the peasants to great emotion in what they say is your name, speaking of replacing bishops and archbishops for betraying the government in Madrid. I fear that this war, and that is what it is quick becoming, will not only undo the natural order in Spain but damage the hierarchy of the Church. The greatest problem is that they bring the Church against itself. I implore you to issue a statement clarifying your position regarding the rightful structure of the Church. Please return what order may be found to the faithful of Spain.

Carlos V spent several weeks becoming acclimated to Bilbao; it was not unlike Portugal greatly in terms of its climate; perhaps colder, due to the Bay of Biscay, but that could merely be from the natural frigidity of winter. He felt more comfortable in Bilbao though – the weight of exile was gone from his shoulders. He could breathe the Spanish air, feel the Spanish soil… in truth, it felt like a dream. It had been months since he had been forced into exile by the brother he had loved, and even months since he had departed from Portugal. Weeks had passed since had to leave his wife in London, and indeed most of his party, though slowly but surely, they were returning. The words they brought regarding the Queen were unfortunate – her condition had not improved, if anything it had worsened, though her physicians were still fairly optimistic that she would recover, given time. Carlos could only pray for just that.

He tried to turn his mind elsewhere; he could hear music in the distance – likely the march composed for him by Don Artai, a Galician with a sense of verse and rhythm. It had spread quickly in the fever pitch that seemed to engulf the city upon the King’s arrival, along with Carlists poems by Lazkao, some of which had also been made in to rudimentary bar songs. Whenever Carlos journeyed through the town to meet with Zumalacarregui and the troops, he could hear them from the taverns and in the camp itself. Indeed the city and the troops in particular were particularly festive; several of the younger officers, seemingly less acquainted with the wars of Napoleon (where such energy and drive had been pivotal) complained of their over-eagerness. However, Carlos and the senior officers welcomed it; this great spirit would, once melded with experience and discipline, prove to be an unstoppable force.

Carlos increasingly found himself holed up in his study, much as he had on the eve of the war, and – with the exception of holding court, officiating ceremonies, and reviewing the troops, he remained there, reading letters, battle-plans, and the like; news travelled all across Spain and Europe as a whole to his study, and indeed, there was little not pertinent to the war that would not find its way there, to be scoured by the King himself or his increasing legion of secretaries and aides.

When not consumed with reading reports and news, Carlos wrote to various noblemen and officers and clergymen, as of yet undeclared, in a bit to further bolster his support. It was tiresome and thankless, but he slowly but surely he was gaining ground.

A REQUEST TO THE OFFICE OF WAR
((Private))
I would like to begin with congratulations to Secretary de Alvear on his appointment to the leadership of the esteemed Office of War, however, given our current situation, I believe we may both agree that now is not the time for idle pleasantries. With this in mind, I will explain quickly and begin to elaborate on the needs of the Army of Andalusia. While we will certainly require arms, ammunition, and supplies for this upcoming campaign, nothing is more clear to me than the need for new uniforms and the improvements in morale which they will bring. As it stands, I must inform the Office of War, we are still utilizing leftover uniforms from the wars against Bonaparte.

These uniforms are in an exceptionally poor condition, many of them highly worn, threadbare at key joints, and coming unraveled at the seams. While a great amount of patchwork and field repairs have been conducted on the uniforms, there is only so much that can be done. Furthermore, with recent drafts of men to the Spanish Army, there is a significant group of men who are completely without uniforms, and while they have not yet resorted to fighting in the bare, as though they were barbarians, I fear that a distinct lack of professionalism will arise should their sole uniform be their daily clothes.

With this in mind, I urge Her Majesty's Office of War to explore the possibility of supplying new uniforms for those regiments most in need (see attached quartermaster's list,) with a sense of immediacy and haste. We must prove to the common soldier and, someday, to the Spaniard, that we are legitimate, that we are the face of authority, and that we are clean, competent, and professional in our efforts to restore order and civility to this nation.

TO THE ROYALIST VOLUNTEERS! A CLARION CALL AGAINST THE CABAL OF CRISTINA!

The Year of your formation saw the conclusion of brutal three year conflict which the force of Jacobinism, in the midst of protracted colonial warfare, rebel against Fernando VII, and helped undo Spain as the Master of the Americas and allowed for the fatherland’s present weakness. Now, a decade later, they now seek to steal away the monarchy, destroy the Holy Church, and bring about a Revolutionary Government bound by rebellion, civil war, disorder, and Bonapartist tyranny – they will hearken onto the realm a regime of generals, of warlords, and petty tyrants, apart from and separate to Spain, and through this weakness and instability permit the final destruction of our once great Fatherland!

The Volunteers, faithful servants of Altar and Crown all, have surely heard of the crimes the forces in Madrid have committed upon the Mother Church? The arrest of bishops, the murder of priests, the sacking of Churches! The Primate of Spain is only days away from Crowning the Head of Carlos V, the true King of Spain and a most devout and honourable man. You men, you brave soldier of Spain, champions of the King, must stand against and fight these forces of Revolution!

Those corrupt, those fearful of a return of strong, honest government, seek to lie and connive their way into victory, and will allow no truth to dissuade their cause; they have accused Carlos of falsehoods simply unbelievable, and yet ignore the crimes they themselves commit wantonly and openly – they speak of Carlos supplanting the Church when they burn down the churches! They accuse him of treason when they raise arms against the King!

They will ask you to fight for the Usurper, for the Regent, and the snake Bermudez, but they have never cared for the Crown, nor for Spain; they seek only the ruin of the Crown and the Conquest of Spain – they seek revolution and discord wherever corner it can emerge from; they strive for rebellion and treason, and call it loyalty! They attack the Church and call it faith!

They atheists and revolutionaries in Madrid must not seize control of the Fatherland! Carlos V, lawful king of Spain, is the only bulwark against Revolution and the Bonapartist Tyranny.

How can the lies of the Isabellines be forgiven? How can their slander of the King be ignored? Even now, amongst you, letters exist accusing Carlos of being a veritable kin-slayer, when it was he and he alone who sought to prevent war. They accuse him of anticlericalism when he protects the Church and has gained favour with the Primate of Spain! They are knaves and rogues, villains and scoundrels, accusing honest knights and men of decency heedless, baseless crimes. That they know their lies are plain to see, and that their claim is false, they have chosen to bribe you, with promises of riches and lands that you will never see.

Volunteers! Stand against the Republicans, the Jacobins, the Bonapartists, and the Atheists of Madrid, and fight for the CATHOLIC KING! Fight for the Honour of Spain, for the RIGHTEOUS CAUSE! Fight against the Jezebel of Madrid, and the Abaddon her allies strive for!

FOR GOD! FOR FATHERLAND! FOR FUERO! FOR CARLOS!

((Private - Apostolic Nuncio to the Kingdom of Spain and His Holiness the Bishop of Rome))

From the Offices of First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Kingdom of Spain
To Apostolic Nunciature to the Kingdom of Spain & His Holiness Pope Gregory XVI
It has come to the attention to Her Most Catholic Majesty Queen Isabella II that upon shoulders of His Holiness, Pastor Pastorum, the burden has been placed of protecting the many honest and pious Spanish men against a war not only conducted by forces that actively ignored His Holiness' wisdom in Mirari Vos declaring that "We are concerned about, you should recall that certain societies and assemblages seem to draw up a battle line together with the followers of every false religion and cult. They feign piety for religion; but they are driven by a passion for promoting novelties and sedition everywhere. They preach liberty of every sort; they stir up disturbances in sacred and civil affairs, and pluck authority to pieces." Her Most Catholic Majesty thus wishes to express Her Gratitude to His Holiness for securing the pure voice of the Catholic Church from corruption by those who feign piety for religion for wordly and impure gains. Her Most Catholic Majesty would be more than honoured if His Holiness would accept this most humble invitation to speak purely and prejudiceless over the preservation of the Church and Her Most Catholic Majesty's role in the protection of these most fundamental princples of the Spanish Monarchy in accordance with His Holiness' previous works in for example Mirari Vos.
Yours Sincerely and Faithfully,

The Most Excellent Don

Bellists and Moderates spread copies of the Mirari Vos, a piece written by His Holiness, Pope Gregory XVI, with special interest in Article XXI

"But for the other painful causes We [Pope Gregory XVI[ are concerned about, you should recall that certain societies and assemblages [Carlists] seem to draw up a battle line together with the followers of every false religion and cult. They feign piety for religion [Their Propaganda]; but they are driven by a passion for promoting novelties and sedition everywhere. They preach liberty [Navarra, Galicia & Catalonia] of every sort; they stir up disturbances in sacred and civil affairs, and pluck authority [The Reign of Her Most Catholic Majesty Queen Isabella II] to pieces."

THE CRIES OF THE FAITHFUL and The Carlist Catholic Campaign

Throughout the latter half of 1833 and into 1834, Carlist supporters, seeking to gain support from the Papacy, and to better reveal the plight of the Catholics in Spain (as they perceived it, the Isabellists were not only harbouring anticlericalists, many amongst them wished to see the Church destroyed), worked in conjunction with one another to publish accounts from priests, bishops, nuns, and non-clergymen, documenting attacks upon the Church by those aligned to Isabel. Their collective works were ultimately published in early 1834 with the title Cries of the Faithful, an impassioned plea to the Pope to support Carlos and condemn the violence perpetrated upon the clergy by Isabel and her supporters. Some of the most vivid and vicious attacks were later found to be forged (perhaps by the authors, perhaps by those they contacted), but a great many were based in truth – though often made more brutal and severe than they actually were. It was further uncertain how involved Carlos V was in this matter personally, though many attribute the sudden spike in efforts to the formation of the Church and Papal Relations Secretariat.

This coincided by a conscious effort by Carlos and the clerics closest to him to begin a campaign of deriding the Madrid government for both its attacks on the Church, and for its silence on the matter – countless pieces of propaganda were released, and many a letter dispatched to Rome, to the Pope, to the Cardinals, and to prominent Catholics in the city. At every juncture, the Carlists were attempting to draw the Pope away from his supposed neutrality by highlighting the anticlerical violence perpetrated by the other side. Chief in these efforts were member of the Church and Papal Relations Secretariat, whose entire existence seemed to hinge on two key goals: to bring about Papal support for Carlos, and to utilise the support of the Primate of Spain and the majority of Spanish clerics in bringing about a Catholic counter-reaction against Isabel.

A MESSAGE from the DUKE of ALBA to VOLUNTARIOS REALISTA

My brothers,

You have recently seen the message written to you by somebody belonging to the clique of anarchists and Bonapartists that call themselves "Сarlists". You may have noticed that it has not been signed, its author is lurking in the shadows and wishes to remain unknown to you. While I, your old fellow and commander, speak to you with open visor and do not wish to hide my face, since I say the truth, the person that tries to seduce and misinform you, prefers to remain anonymous, for it is then easier to spread vile lies, when you do not answer for what you declare.

However, it is not difficult to believe in that, when we see that Carlists, many of them unwillingly, are already serving the Father of all Lies.

It is clear to any person possessing reason and mind that it is Don Carlos that is a true revolutionary. A disobedient brother and son, who had to be, due to his dangerous intrigues threatening the Realm and the Crown, exiled to Portugal by His late Majesty, is now leading an army of bandits and separatists against the Throne.

It is he whom, assembling the number of rebellious priests who have ignored the pacifying declaration of the Pope, is trying to create a Church of his own, run by a secretary of his choosing.

It is his followers that upon his orders besmirch the personal life of Our august Master, Ferdinand VII, by vile lies and rumors, doing away with any decency that befits a Catholic.
In meanwhile, we all know that the Queen Regent, a staunch defender of Faith and Order, has long ago dismissed Bermudez and replaced him and his cronies with a Moderate Catholic Government, which, under the guidance of Don Falcon, is seeking to establish close ties with the Pontific in Rome.

Under Ferdinand VII you were the protectors of order and the dignity of the Monarchy against the likes of Carlos, the enemy of our deceased Sovereign. We already have seen the enemies of the Throne similar to him in Basque Country and Valencia. Their hypocrisy did not trick us then, it would not trick us now.

Under Carlos you would become robbers and rapists like his loyal followers. Do not listen to the propaganda of the enemy, come to the Northern Army - and your loyalty to the dynasty and the true Queen would be rewarded.

It has started! Thought Dieter. The war against the heirs of Ferdinand "The weak" didn't recognized that a strong government was necesary to achieve the needed stability of Spain. By secret correspondence, they have announced to him that he will be the second of Emilio Agustín Huerta. That was not a problem for him, he was used to follow order, he was a soldier.
He called the officer of "his" Ertzaina (municpal militia) and told him
"Aitor, take a group of your men and search, with absolut discretion, how many supporters of Isabel are present in our territory. Also look how many families of soldiers of the Royal army live here, but do not anything, just tell me when it is done" Aitor was a little surprised but he inmediatly answered "It shall be done".
After Aitor left, Dieter sat in his small office and started to write his thoughts.

"
It is clear this war will be a complicated one, given that the regent has big support of those illiterate who lived in the poor farms of Andalucía or the poor fishermen of Sevilla and Valencia. However, Spanish patriots has defeated a larger army that some called "The Grand Armee" with some brilliant tactits, those partisans attacked and retreated and attacked again. It is clear what needs to be done, i will send some men to the borders and cities like Leon, Jadranque, Gijon and Huesca, surely those followers of Isabel have loose-lips volunteers and they may reveal some of the movements, who knows, maybe he will have some luck. I will also try to get some uniforms of the royal army and they variations, they may be useful when wars get close to Basque land"

Dieter took the piece of paper, he read it one last time and then burn it until it was only ashes, then he went out his office and started to giving orders to the other mens of the Ertzaina

The Duke of Alba, the latest in the long line of spurious Englishmen with pretentions on the English throne, which was lost through their sheer inability to govern, has made it known he considers Carlos V, the King of Spain and his sovereign lord, to be a traitor and enemy of his late brother Fernando; that the Duke has made such a remark shows an immensely poor grasp on his knowledge of the two brothers, and his inability to remotely view the world outside of his own blinded mind. Carlos was ever a faithful brother to Fernando, despite numerous offers to join in plots and contrivances against his elder brother; even after being exiled by Fernando did Carlos remain a symbol of filial fidelity, and stand ever hopeful that his birth-right would be restored and his return home assured. However, thanks to weak men like the Duke, who gallivant with the Republicans and Bonapartists they are so fond of imagining amongst us (for surely, if even “brave” and “noble” men like themselves are known to bow to them, what are we mere mortal and loyal followers of the King but mere vermin to them to do?), Fernando was surrounded by radicals and Jacobins, who further poisoned and distorted the hapless man, and even now seek to do the same to his daughter. That he has the audacity to spew such flagrant lies whilst condemning us as the liars is purely laughable.

That the Duke refers to loyal Spaniards as bandits in one breath, and then declares that the property of those loyal Spaniards is forfeit, is truly telling, and again reveals the sheer immorality and weakness of his cause – his side can no more inspire men to fight for them than it can find new uniforms for its “troops!” The men of Carlos, brave and honourable soldiers, trained, disciplined, valorous beyond all belief, and devoted so surely to the cause that they would as soon march upon Hell itself, certain defeat, than abandon their King! Contrast that with the impotence of the Duke, and of the Duke’s men; he has clearly taken to bribery and theft to ensure the loyalty of his men to false, and ultimately lost, cause; he derides the honourable for he has none, and expects no honour from his men. Indeed, we have heard of the attacks on Churches. Surely no side of honour would commit such a heinous act!

He declares that the King is opposed to the Pope, when his fellows attack those Churches and Arrest Priests! He declares a body, devoted solely to ensuring the warm relations between our Kingdom and the Papacy, a venerable institution headed by a man of the cloth, who has no say on the dictation of the Churches – for the belongs solely to the Pope and God – is a secretariat of heresy! How can this be so? How can the Scotsman say this, unless he truly is, as has been stated so many times before, a man bereft of wisdom, sense, or shame. He will glibly declare his loyalty to God and Crown and work mindlessly to the ruin of both!

Bermudez, the Snake, was removed not “long ago” but only some months hence – again, the Scotsman shows his ignorance and his delight in lying; and yet Carlos V, our noble Sovereign, is the Father of Lies. Indeed, the Scotsman declares that Carlos endeavoured to fight war, and made no efforts of peace, and that the clergymen who follow Carlos are rebellious warmongers (I suppose he means those not murdered by the Isabellines or arrested by the same), when both are patently false. Carlos cried for peace, and begged that this claim – Just is it was, as those clergymen who prayed for his success and for peace so know – be recognised. And indeed, it was recognised. Tens of Thousands, Hundreds of Thousands, stand by the rightful King, and will fight for his honour and for his Crown, denied by the Scotsman, the Snake, and the Jezebel!

The Scotsman shall sale the Kingdom to the Revolutionary, believing he has saved the Monarchy! Carlos shall fight back the Revolutionary and Peace to the Kingdom!

Shall you fight solely for land, or for riches that a liar promises you? Or shall you fight for your God, your Homes, your Laws, you Fatherland, and your King? Shall you abandon Spain to the Revolutionaries, or shall you Restore Dignity to the Throne? Shall you have corruption and lies under Isabel the Usurper? Or shall we have honest, diligent government under the wise and providential reign of Carlos the Restorer?

When Carlos tied his boots the scar was itching. His blood throbbed in veins.
He grab his dusted gun, killer of indigenous. Now it'll taste some Spanish blood. Some traitors blood.

"Vamos" he whispered as he headed the contingent.

On the Etxeto Estates.
The dust rose, choking the sun with it's sandy embrace. The sergeants called their orders, and the men almost always responded smartly.

"Giro a la izquierda!" Turn.

"Giro hacia la derecha!" Turn.

"Embestir!" And with a great cry the men rushed forward with bayonet, ready to kill the bales of hay that sought to vanquish the men.

Tomas and Lord Etxeto watched with approval as Lord Etxeto waved a fan in front of their face, coughing lightly. Sitting with grace on their Spaniard Chargers, they saw the colonel walk up to them with a grim face that the two Etxeto men discovered was pride.

"Caudillo Etxeto, Consejero Etxeto, the men are feeling well. They will protect this land with their lives. I hope that our demonstration have proven their spirit and vigour."

Lord Etxeto smiled faintly. The title caudillo stroked his ego slightly, but the comfort of thousands of armed men on the estate meant that he would sleep easily throughout this war, however long it will last. Waving his face slightly, he replied to the colonel.

"The men seem of high moral. They shouldst make thou fustian colonel, for their efforts make me feel safer in mine estate then prior to the war. I shall hast to make sure that their wine ration is doubled tonight in gramercy."

Lord Etxeto spoke slower than normal, due to his accented Spanish being antiquated enough that the colonel had to train his ears to their noble tongue. Today there seemed naught an issue, as the colonel grimness lightened happily and the man bowed.

"The men shall sing your praises tonight."

Lord Etxeto nodded slightly.

"As is meet, but keep them organised. I shall hast nay roughness near mine house or kin."

Clip clopping away on their mighty steeds, the brothers Etxeto were comfortable in their newfound warlordship.

A pamphlet seen in Northern and Northeastern Spain.

There is but one legitimate ruler of Spain whose rights are given from God. This ruler is no infant girl whose father once renounced his claim to the throne only to return illegitimately. The only legitimate is a man who did not renounce his eternal and god-given right to rule. This is Carlos the Fifth, he whose head is sacred and pure. He is indeed blessed by God himself and getting the Spanish Crown on his head is his eternal destiny. When he was born, many angels and even Archangel Miguel appeared at his crib and everyone knew that he was destined to rule. However the people speaking in favor of Carlos V were silenced by the Devil himself who corrupted their souls and led them into believing that the word of the Devil was the word of God.

María Christina the so-called regent of Spain who rules on behalf of the illegitimate Infanta Isabelle as they refer to as Queen Isabelle II. The "regent" is actively supporting the Devil whereever she makes law. The clergy that speaks the only true word of God is being robbed, the churches set on fire and steal the holy relics. The only one left in the country to protect against these ungodly beast, is Carlos V who was sent by the messenger of god, Archangel Miguel. Even though he has tried to get the throne lawfully, the Devil's corruption had spread like wildfire in Madrid and they would detain him if he ever tried to set foot on Spanish soil.

But threats of arrest does not scare the blessed man who would rather be a holy martyr then make deals with the devil. Fighting for cause of God is the only thing left to do. Join Ejército de San Miguel and fight the ungodly beasts that follows María Christina's foul heretical plan to make Spain into terror-regime alá Robespierre. For God, King and Country!

Don Artai Amaro de Soutomaior y Andrade is called upon one more assembly in the surroundings of Bilbao, in his first action upon receiving the Secretariat for Grace and Justice. He would give several speeches in different halls addressing one of the most important points in the Carlist fight.

"Señoras y caballeros,

It is by the grace of God that I now serve as a secretary in the government of Rey Carlos V, and therefore must lose no time in satisfying what is needed of me. Think not that I am in the best of my personal conditions; most of my family is still in Galicia as I speak to you today, trying to get rid of the Isabelline scum on that land. Let us hope and pray the days of war will be behind us soon, that this be rapid and successful to our cause.

The issue I must let you know about is that of the status of the fueros. As you all know, the issue of regionalism is a very compelling one in Spain, and I can also speak for it, being a Galician. What I intend on discussing today is what exactly has been transpiring in Spain in these last weeks, and why is it extremely important that the Carlist cause be upheld throughout the Empire, starting here.

The Basque, Catalonian, Aragonese, Asturian and Galician people are as proud as they are virtuous. Our time-honoured institutions have been with us since society and civilization developed in these lands. Over time, we became Spanish, and all the while still kept these things which are our history and people. Great men from these regions have served the Spanish Empire, as statesmen, conquistadores, admirals... it is doubtless that our fate is the fate of Spain, and her Empire, which we have helped create, is also part of us, and our enduring legacy to the world.

There were hard times. América has declared independence from us, and now they find themselves in the mire of Republicanism. We are losing our prominence within the ranks of the great nations of the world. Spain, my dear compatriots, was to be an example, a land of many peoples joined together for a common goal. We shone amidst the nations, and we should continue to shine. And so therefore the ancient pact of our nations with Spain is to be upheld, for we bask in each other's glory.

Yet there are snakes in Spain, my compatriots. A monarch under duress has put himself before God, and the snakes happily take advantage of it. It is still in the memories of many of the older señores in our midst what happened in France, when the Jacobins came for the Basques, revoked their rights and humiliated their people. It saddens me to say that the Jacobin, this eternal spawn of Satan, is now inside Spain, and wishes to do the same. The so-called Regent is under their sway and they hold the power behind the throne. The so-called Regent has already shown the signs that every little bit of regional autonomy will be crushed under her heels. The liberal unwashed will not be contented in removing Carlos from his rights to the throne, señores, for their project for Spain is one of a tyrannizing central authority who enslaves people like you and me, spits on the name of God and persecutes whoever calls into question their atheism and incompetence.

At the face of such a threat, señores, I ask you: do not let your blame fall upon Spain. It is not Spain who seeks to conquer us, for she has been a gentle nation for us until now. It is the so-called Regent woman, the Child Queen and their frontlines of liberals that should take this blame. Fortunately, we have Carlos once more here, next to us. The only choice is to support him, for he has already been in favour of at least maintaining the status of the fueros and therefore guarantees the prosperity of your families and the respect for your traditions and mine. Had Carlos not been the legitimate King as he is, had he not been a man of God as he is, had he been a liberal as he is not, he would still deserve our respect and support much more than the forces of Styx which assemble in the capital."

Bakar nervously thumbed open an envelope sealed with the burgundy cross. It's seemed that the King had named the Conde de Álava the Secretary of State for public works, a logistical role that suited the reclusive Count just fine. The only problem seemed to be that Bakar now found himself in charge of the mail, a job that would be difficult to fulfill since all of the would-be-mailmen had turned to arms and begun to defend. Bakar had moved safely away to Donostia where he was busy trying to organize as much of the civilian fleet and merchant marine as possible into a formidable Armada. As it currently stood, there would be very little Bakar could do about the situation, however he was trying to get in to contact with the French Basques in order to smuggle arms and ammunition in. As far as land transport was concerned, trying to maintain the roads during a civil war was nigh on impossible, and the problem of finding able bodied men who hadn't already taken up arms was minuscule. With any luck, the war would be over soon and Bakar's could return to the estate. An impossible dream, at this rate.
