Well played war, although losses hurt for a nation like Brazil this early in the game.

And you were very lucky with that peace deal. :D

That negative prestige is never a good thing... though it will mean that you get cheap prestige taking DoWs... take advantage of that :)

War In The Land Of Fire

We start off with kissing the Second Republics arse. I need very good relations to buy their lands.

suckup2.jpg

I move four divisions in total to the pental border (five states, that is).
Other preparations include the deployment of two divisions to the Andean border with Chile/Argentina, and the purchose of convoy ships to convert into transports.

prep.jpg

convoy.jpg

Another commerce tech is researched.

tech1.jpg

Next stop: deciding who I want to whack. Due to some odd reason, declaring war on the Republic would cost me 100 prestige, while going to war with Argentina cost only 23, and they were my intended target anyway.

nowar.jpg

yeswar.jpg

Now, you may be wondering why I go to war again so early. There are two reasons. The main reason is to get Argentina's colonies, I will not take any actual territory for the sake of BB, and secondly, early game BB wars are very rare, thus, I have a couple of years to burn away BB points after this. This will probably be my last war until I buy all french/english land in South America.

Anyways, the first, and only moves of the war (or so I thought). I occupy Buenos Aires for warscore's sake, and send one division to take actual colonies.

goodair.jpg

landing.jpg

Hmm. Uruguay joins in the fun, on Argentina's side. This is actually good, as they were GoIed by France, so were beyond my reach, until now. They will get annexed, period.

uru.jpg

My army is too small though to quickly deal with the incursion into my territory, so I mobilize again, and will deploy 9 divisions to the border to annex them.

mobil.jpg

(that extra division is a ship being repaired)

Rule of Vicky nr. 1256: War is good for research. I pick an industrial tech, as France may not have that, but is bound to have the Ad-Hoc tech.

tech2.jpg

As promised, Uruguay are gone.

annex.jpg

This puts my prestige nicely into the positive.

I take the last colony of Patagonia, and offer Argentina peace afterwards. A white one, of course. They have been giving me nice peace deals, but I need all colnoies for my plan.

lastcol.jpg

wp.jpg

With relations being 170, I try and trade territory with France. They reject, damn it. Another good diplomat wasted.

notrade.jpg

Speaking of diplomats, a positive prestige gives me a nice increase in DI gain.

DI.jpg

This concludes the year of 1847.

robou: Yup, the very early game is a bit difficult, but it start to get better with time. Brazil is a slow but heavy rock. Played well, it can smash a lot from 1900 onwards.

likk9922: In my tryout games, they usually accpeted the peace deal after 3-4 tries, but5 accepting on the first, that was lucky indeed.

Prinz Wilhelm: On its way? We are already the ten greates country in the wolrd by size, or somesuch:p

Ahura Mazda: Their territories will be bought. Or fought for, if need be, but thats the very last resort.

robou: I dont take DoWs. I hand them out. :hard-boiled: :)

I noticed de Tramandai's weird picture. If you download my latest Leaderpack it is fixed. :)

Being rather new to Victoria and having recently played a game as Brazil, I am following your gameplay with great interest. The way you explain your choices and tactics is especially nice. I'm intrigued to see how you go about it, especially as I have myself pursued a completely different, very peaceful strategy.

1848-1852:

Boring I.

What could start off an update bettar than a revolt? So, here we go.

pareira.jpg

Lovely. The corps sent to occupy the Agrentinean colonies is transferred back to deal with this, in due time.

backwego.jpg

My capitalist are quite busy:

48rr.jpg

Buliding rails...

factories.jpg

... and factories. Due to something fickle with the tropical wood supply, my luxury goods factories run only at about 50% efficiency, and becouse only a few states have capis at all, industrialistaion is quite restricted. But the point here is not to have a huge industry, as I dont have the population to support that, but to have some places where clercks can be sent to, thus increasing my RP generation.

The new tech choice is a prestige one, for quite obvious reasons. Low prestige is bad, high prestige is good.

prestige.jpg

One reson why high prestige is good: It gives you DI points:

25DI.jpg

As a new years present, my little rebelling country gets a DoW.

secwar.jpg

and an annexation that follows promptly.

byebyepratini.jpg

Bad news. The conservative party has come into power....

cons.jpg

Maybe it had to do with this:

int.jpg

Uruguay wants our support again. Let them have it, they wont live to see the turn of the century anyways.

uru.jpg

France wants some pretty pennies for its lands...

meh.jpg

good.jpg

Another step towards the elimination of slavery:

bill.jpg

My newest tech piece improves my capitalists. And is maybe electabel to be traded with France.

capitech.jpg

The last remnants of the Pareire rebellion are killed:

rebelyell.jpg

Why you should never have conservatives in power between 1844 and 1850: The Liberal Revolution. Thankfully, it ends rather quickly.

lib.jpg

endlib.jpg

The last tech choice for this update is again an economic one. Notice that I now have a very small surplus in RP generation. Catching up: here I come!

tech3.jpg

Lastly, one of the Idealism inventions fires rather quickly. Notice the quite well-railed coast in the background.

My apologies, I played Spore long enough to find out that I'm too old for it. It will make a nice present, though.

Davisx3m: So it shall be!

Prinz Wilhelm: Will do.

The_Guiscard: And how did you manage? Did you get enough immigration?

robou: Empty land, mostly. I will trade a couple of claim bulidings for Her Annoying Majesties land. And maybe this will force Argentina to disperse its already meager forces.

Rabid: Hey, its not my fault that Europe sucks:) (just kidding, Im a proud Old Worldian myself.)

Absolutely no; almost none. I had heard that Brazil was a prime country for immigrants and I tried to go as liberal as I could to attract them, but to no avail. It was only after 1900 that they started to trickle in, and manpower shortage did thus become crippling. In the early phases of the game, I managed to get Brazil to an overall rank 3, but the lack of manpower crippled industrialization, and Brazil did subsequently fall ever more behind other nations. I finished rank 8, if I remember correctly.

Btw, I continue to enjoy your exploits. I hope it teaches me what I did wrong.

Surely selling those Argentine colonies will jus leave the british in a different part of South America? Surely you want them off the continent?

Yes, but. Patagonia is a huge, 7 province colony, and one way to claim a colony is to have missions, coaling stations, trade ports, and forts, one of each, while the other way is to have any calim buliding in all provinces.

Now, Patagonia comes with 6 provinces claimed. None of those have a fort, but the otrher three types are present. I will start a fort in the empty province, then sell 3 provinces to GB. Once the fort is finished, I will have fulfilled all criteria to claim the colony:)

Dirty, but useful:p

Are you sure we are talking about the same thing? Claiming a colony via the four different posts rule means that any other person with claims in that state begins to hate you, IIRC.

Oh... I'm not sure about that... :eek:o

But I know that most Diplomatic initiatives increases relations (including trading colonies, provs and tech), at least at first.
