Hi,

Genuinely hyped for the game by the way. So just want to get that clear. Been soaking up as much content as possible, and was watching the paradox twitch stream yesterday. And I couldn't work out what was wrong with Egypt, and why for some reason it's colour wasn't on screen. Anyway just been on Reddit and I've just found out that the grey that I thought was the rest of the map was also Egypt. Is it that bad or just the stream that made it look bad? Right now I think it's not a very nice or easy to see colour.

Don't worry about it. This is a complete non-issue. It's a guarantee that there will be mods which will change the color(s), and it's also just easy to do on your own.

That's probably true, but I'm not sure if changing the color changes the checksum. I think most people could stand an achievement run with that color though, don't you?

Personally I think it's a really bad colour and makes Egypt really hard to see. That is kind of my point here, and I usually only play ironman. Fair enough if you like it. I'm just letting paradox know I think it's a really bad colour as it's virtually the same as wasteland/uncolonised land.

I don't like it or not like it. There is just a clear delineation, for me at least, between the border of Egypt and the places which are uncolonized or not colonizable. Wouldn't mind if they changed it. I prefer teal for Egypt personally.

Modding country colours does change the checksum, if other Paradox games are anything to go by. It's not the same thing as changing flags/units in the other games, you actually need to edit a gameplay file.

And yeah, this has come up several times now, and I anticipate it is going to keep coming up. Terra incognito grey is an objectively bad map colour for a country. Is it an enormous game-breaking issue? Of course not. But it's an easy thing to fix on Paradox's end (and I say "fix" rather than "change" because, again, using a colour that's almost indistuingishable from the one used for wasteland is an objectively bad decision that Paradox should have caught and fixed before now; the same can be said of the trade goods mapmode for salt). The alternative is leaving it as it is and accepting that people are inevitably going to complain about this for years to come.

I agree that it isn't a good color selection, but confusing their land with uncolonized land is too large of an exaggeration. At least as far as my eyes are concerned.

I usually only play ironman
You can play any mod you like with ironman, even one that changes colours. What you mean is "I usually play for achievements". People really need to stop calling that Ironman... I can play MEIOU & Taxes for EU4 in ironman if I wanted to.

Just asking: Why would someone play Ironman if not for the achievments? To not fall into temptation to reload an old save?

To me the only Valid color for Egypt is Yellow... Deserts are Yellow, Piramids are Yellow, Sandstone is Yellow ... I want them Yellow!

I always play Ironmode because of achievements but also because somehow it makes me feel officially playing to the game for leaderboard, because no Ironman feels like a cheated game or a non valid one , since there is not even an endgame it is kind of lame to not play otherwise .... This is why I hope they will tweak Ironman in order to allow achievements and leaderboards also with some mods like graphic mods .

I always play eu4 on iron man, as I find it provides an added thrill and challenge. I have to be more cautious because of the knowledge that any mistakes I make are irreversible etc.

Yep, pretty much. If you don't give a damn about achievements but also don't want the temptation of cheating, chuck on ironman (turn off lucky nations) and throw on a mod :)

Graphics mods don't break achievement compatibility in EU4. Oh and I disagree with every single word you just said.

I couldnt care less
Same ;)

The poor choices of colours for the map has already been discussed many times on these forums. Honestly I don't really know what to think about it - map colours are mostly conventions you need to get used to, and since I'm used to black&white maps in old books...

I'm more concerned about the choice of flags to represent many tribes that didn't have a famous emblem/colour. If you're going to use flags to represent country, I believe it would be much better to design something really distinct than just generate random patterns that look vaguely culturally appropriate... I feel that it's a bit the same thing for colours. Egypt, and even Ptolemaic Egypt, should probably lapis lazuli blue, gold, desert "brown", or of any colour that does evoke Egypt today in some obvious way.

Also, "mods will fix it" is NEVER a good answer, for at least two reasons:
1- you can never predict what mods you'll get after a game is released, unless you plan to make the mod yourself. This particular mod should be very easy to make, it's true, but when people talk about possible mods, it always remind me of how sure people were to see Star Wars and W40k total conversion mods for Stellaris just after it was released. Or how people were certain we would have dozens of new societies when it became a feature in CK2.
2- this is not about replacing heads with red pandas or adding a "cult of cthulhu" religion. This is about the core of the game. When you see a design problem, you don't want a mod to fix it, you want the devs to address it.

Now of course it's hard to know if it's a real issue to have all those counter-intuitive colours. Maybe it won't be a problem after a few hours in game. Or maybe it will feel ugly until someone makes the right mods, or the devs change the in game colours...
