I like to think of Egypt being the USSR and Rome being America, because in every game i have played as Rome Egypt will get invaded by the Seleucids and end up owning everying east of Thracia. Was egypt really that powerful back then or is the game messed up

In my games egypt usually becomes a vassal of either Carthage or Seleucids. Seleucid empire is almost always a giant.

Same here, Egypts usually disappear as an indepdant power 20 - 30 years in. Usually after having lost lots of land to Seleucids and Carthage.

In my games (start date: Phyrric war), Egypt usually gets attacked by Carthage so it has to fight a two-front war because it is also at war with the seleucids (from the start of the game). This results in egyptean losing both wars.

In my last game, i noticed that the Egyptians had manpower but not gold to create units, so the Seleucids and the Carthaginians had managed to capture a lot of provinces. So I donated them about 100 gold pieces.

The results were impressive. Egypt quickly fielded 50+ units, managed to sign a white peace with the Seleucids, and scored a clear victory against the Carthaginians.

well....early ingame i didnt want a super carthage and a bigger selecide (sigh i can never spell them right) empire so i kept giving them gold, now the end result is a submissive Carthage towards Egypt and a shattered S empire

This is like that "the Italians are Romans", yeah sure. :p

Of course, the age of a person who likes to believe in that is a crucial factor, I know.

Yes, there where Egypt in that era, until Caesars trading company came to make a deal you can't refuse.

As I noticed most of you saying the Seleucid empire ends up being a juggernaught, I just wanted to state that in my game {starting from the earliest date possible}, I am only about 70 years in, Egypt has basically destroyed all of the Seleucid empire. And when I say basically, I mean the Seleucids have about 4 provinces left, with Egypt owning the rest. And as for Carthage, its almost been wiped off the map by Rome{myself}, Numidia {Newest ally of Rome}, Massilia {Ally of Rome} and Macedonia {Ally of Rome}. Now granted, my allies literally just jumped on the band wagon after I had basically won the war, but they recieved some of the spoils of land to help me shave down Carthage quicker.

Basically, this all lead to Egypt being the strongest nation on the board right now in terms of land/manpower/money, with Rome a close second.

AI Egypt is better now than it was in previous versions of the game. It now has a chance to really flex its muscle IF it can survive the early war with Selecuids and Carthage. To the AI's credit, Carthage DOWs Egypt if you start in 474 because it can see that Egypt is in a tough fight against a powerful enemy.

We can debate the historical merits of Egypt's economy and military setup in Rome, but the game is balanced better as a whole with a strong Egypt. Otherwise, the game just becomes a race to build an empire faster than the Seleucids.

I've seen Egypt win big and lose big under the current patch. I haven't seen Egypt win 100% of the time, though.
