Russia
1776 - 1791
The Look to the West
Finally the trip of our Emperess Catherine ended in 1776, angry with his regent, she decided to throw away every paper and document he wrote in the name of the Russian Throne. The previous movements and decisions made by the regent were sent to a special council to discuss them, given the state of the Empire. Russia for years showed a serene and pale face to the rest of Europe, only involving in the conflicts that have drained the continent for centuries, in a subtle or with the minimun effort. The only step towards an involvement in the politics was an small assault to the eastern frontier of Poland, the conflict was settle rapidly due to the major involvement of the latter in the war between Austria and France.
Catherine decided to reorganize the Army, giving the full command to the most excellent general that the mother Russia has given birth, Alexander Suvorov. He showed especially good attributes with assaults in the far eastern russian border, and also distinguised himself in the war with Poland, command an unbeatable division in the southern front. Large levees were called due to this reorganization. Most of the troops were sent to the Polish border, but a big contingent were set around the important port of Astrakhan.
Our Tzarina received the most desperate call for help coming from the Court of Vienna, from her friend, the Archduchess of Austria, Maria Theresa. Knowing that our neighbours, the Ottoman Empire which have helped a lot Austria, were in trouble due to the fragile cohesion their country; Catherine the Great decided to join the Austrian side on the long war against France.
Troops started to move through the Caucassian area, given the impossibility to enter Polish lands. Thousands of brave and courageous russian soldiers marched for kilometers and kilometers to reach their destiny, the once fertile plains of Hungary. Commanded by General Suvorov, Russian troops were marching to help their friends, Austria.
Joining the High Command of Austrian forces, Suvorov and our brave russian soldiers, fought hard and tirelessly to stop the French troops to continue their sack of Imperial lands. Even the bravery of Suvorov almost cost his life a few times, but he managed to get out of struggles with fine tactics and planification.
In the middle of this conflict, the avidous king of Portugal took his chance and declare war on us, asking a couple of territories of China. Our Tzarina decided that it will be better to reach an understanding with a country like Portugal, considered a friend in the Petersburgian Court.
Finally the looooong conflict ended with the Russian participation considered as very important. A White peace was finally reached and every body return to attend their countries, without care for so long, given the time and effort diverted to the war. Russia took a morale victory by helping maintain the cohesion of the Austrian Crown and by giving a hand to put order in the territories that have rebeled in the Ottoman Empire.
But another conflict has blowned up between France and Austria. Again Suvorov and our many brave have pledge allegiance to the reduction of the power of France in south central Europe. For now, the war have been carried well, with marches around the Po river after expelling french expeditionary forces. The main event that have occured outside the walls of Mantua is the killing of General Kellerman, high commander of the French Forces opperating in the Italian Area. We have the sense this loss, even as important as it is, will not be decisive, given the great development that the Military Schools in France have experimented.
In the middle of these conflicts, an old cuestion have been put to an end. The Kingdom of Poland is no longer existant as an indepedent nation. Russia have taken big chunks of lands to the Polish kingdom but a protectorate will be set to the remaining territories.
Russia is trying to help restore order and balance to Europe, will the rest of the continent follow the same path?
