Ive been following some of the discussions on the much too widely availability of amphibious landing ability.

We have a factor called shore_attack.

Question is. Is there any way we can use this to reflect the presence of correct landing crafts by lovering shore_attack of land units across the board and raising them again through techs that need to be researched first before being able to perform good invasions?

I see some problems in this approach as well though.

1) is shore_attack used as well when attacking across a strait. fx between the danish islands?

if yes we have to be carefull to find a balance where it does not become impossible to attack say sjælland from fyn yet makes a German landing in Britain much harder.

2) do we need to make price changes to transports to reflect the presence of new landing crafts as they are developed?

3) will the ai take the shore_attack penalty into account when calculating odds for a landing?

I would really like the imput of some of the people stronger in the mechanics of HOI on these issues.

Beach level

I read on another thread that there is a thing called beach level.

Where do i find this and could this aid us in relations to modeling invasions more correctly?

Edit: found it in the province file but I have yet to see the resemblance between the privinces that get the same beach level.

Ghost, yes beach level is in the Province.csv and my testing indicates it does make a significant impact to the combat modifiers. I've not found it clearly documented anywhere. (and I found testing it very tricky)

I'm assuming shore attack is *only* used for amphibious assaults, but I might be wrong (never tested it). I know some of the Danish attacks are considered "river" attacks!

I've started on sourting out every beach in the province.csv to make comparrisons. After that i will beginn testing with attacks on different levels for the same province and see if i can work out a balance together with the amphibious techs added in CORE.

Ghost, good luck! Please report any findings. Don't forget about weather, leaders and be careful of what types of units you are assaulting with and the various techs they have.

Argh, I don't know where my test results are at the moment but I remember it as being something like:
Beach 1 - no penalty
Beach 2 - negative 10 or 20%
Beach 3 - negative 70%

Sigh... I'm sure the threads about this are on here somewhere.

I think you must have them reversed because i noticed that gibraltar is in the beach 1 section but then again they might be messed up. What im aiming at is having the current outcome ratio of invasion but not until the techs are researched so higher loss rates to the invader then now. at least for the first 1½ years of the war. Getting beyond the Germany couldnt have made sealion line of reasoning by swithching research priorities into that area for UK/US/commenwealth/japan and leaving it to the German/italy player if he wishes to catch up to them.

I've found out that valetta(malta) is located in the no modifier group 3. is this correct? when disregarding the troops,ships,planes and forts. Would the island be easy to land on. Anyone have an idea about that?

I've tried landing on Malta as the Italians a number of times and in all but one case I got massacred. It has mountain terrain and a big fort, so those two modifiers alone came to something like -90 %. My troops always wound up at 1 % effectiveness, except when I used marines. You will find it really hard to judge any results you get there.

In reality, Malta is fairly flat. Not mountainous. But that's a topic for another day. :)

Im just trying to see if its in the right category and from your description it would be a correct category 3 beach. As to the mountain terrain would it be more correct to make it hills or just plain clear terrain?
