Some US Events(Non-Scripted)

Here are some event ideas I got while thumbing through a text on US history. I haven't had time to try to script them yet or even look at the file on scripting. Been too busy playing the game. I couldn't really get a grip on the events surrounding the passing and enforcement of the sedition act in the late 1700's. What caught my eye was the possible revolt of the southern states in 1787 under Jefferson. Fortunately for the US, Jefferson preferred a political solution.

And I thought some event causing some tension between the US and whoever controls the territories of Bayou and Biloxi should be created reflecting the control of the mouth of the Mississippi river. Not too sure how to do this and when to cause the event to happen, but will try my best.

Also there were some intrigues by Spain to detach Kentucky and Tennessee as a seperate nation under its protection. Wasn't exactly too sure how you would script this either.

If any of these events have been covered by the thread or the event file in the game please accept my apologies. I scanned both this thread and the events for the US.

Event: Treatement of the Loyalists.
Date: Latter half of the year after US is created.
Conditions: Existance of US and England(Great Britain)
Text: During the American Revolution colonial society became bitterly divided by the war. After the war the loyalist(those who stayed loyal to Britain) were persecuted to the extent that they left the US for better grounds. According to some history texts some 60,000 loyalists left the states even after cooler heads prevailed to ease the loyalists' status in the new republic.
Option A: Persecute the Loyalists.
Effect:
1. Each US territory with a city gets a -1,000 to their population(Random British city gets a +1,000 population increase if possible)
2. Aristocracy -1 (Torries were mostly from the upper class of society)
3. Relations with England(Great Britain) -50
Option B: Protect the Loyalists.
Effect:
1. Aristocracy +1
2. Relations with England(Great Britain) +50
3. All US territories get +1 to unrest.

Event: The State of Franklin
Date: sometime in 1784.
Conditions:
1. US exists
2. US owning territories of Roanoke, Catawba, Appalachee and Tennessee.
Text: Before North Carolina ceded her lands to Congress, the state government reserved jurisdiction over the region till Congress accepted them. This caused settlers in the region some concern over their security which caused settlers to quickly form a government. They then applied to become a state in the union. North Carolina exercised its jurisdiction over the territory which caused a civil war in that region. Congress, not wishing to antagonize North Carolina, didn't intervene in the conflict. The situation resolved itself when no successor was elected to fill the office of the governor of the newly created state and the defeat of the settlers by North Carolina.
Option A: Intervene.
Effect: Unrest in Roanoke and Catawba +2
Option B: Let the situation resolve itself
Effect: Unrest in Tennessee +2

I like the Loyalists event a lot, though it should probably be triggered by the existing peace treaty event (pity we can't have an offset from a trigger condition; it will fire the moment the peace treaty is signed).

The problem I see with the Franklin event is that a +2 revolt risk probably won't do much unless the USA is suffering from war exhaustion at that point. Maybe a bigger revoltrisk? Or just start a revolt outright?

Thanks for the reply Alan.

Hmm, no offset eh? Oh well thanks. I will do as you suggest on the Loyalist event.

About the Franklin event, I'm still trying to track down some info on the events surrounding this matter, so I'm not too sure how angry the settlers felt toward the national government or how strong North Carolina would react to the national government intervening hence the small revolt risk. It could turn out that this really isn't much of an event even for historical flavor.

Kind of an aside. Sometimes I think each cultural region of the United States should start off as an independent country in vassalage to Cheseapeake(sp) which would be the core US province after the revolution. They sure acted like independent coutries under the Articles of Confederation. This would reflect the weakness of that organization and how hard it was to keep the different cultural regions of the New England and Southren states together as a country. The vassals then would become part of the US after the constitution event.

1419 Mexica

I have just read a bit about pre-Colombian Mesoamerica and have come to the conclusion that the situation at the start of the grand campaign is totally ahistorical. For example, before 1426 the Aztecs only held the island-city of Tenochtitlan and the Maya were divided into over 20 nations forming two alliance, one led by Cocom in Yucatan and one led by Quiche Maya in Guatemala.

I have created a rough redesign of 1419 Mexico that involves some new countries, but I believe the Mesoamericans are more deserving of tags than the North Americans.

Jalisco: Tarascan
Saltillo: natives
Tampico: Huastec
Michocan: Tarascan
Tenochtitlan: Aztec
Tlaxcala (sic): Texcala
Atlixco: Mixtec
Tehuantepec: Zapotec
Tehuacan: natives
Guatemala: lots of natives (or Quiche Maya)
Campeche: natives
Yucatan: lots of natives (or Cocom)

Michocan and Tampico are both conquered by the Aztecs before contact with the Spanish.

This requires three extra tags.

I didn't really know how to deal with the population issue. I think 60 lines of random province names probably wouldn't fit on the computer screen. I started with 30 commands with 2000 population factors, but still wasn't sure about what would fit on the screen. So I toned it down further to what you see here.

Revolt risk is another thing I'm unsure of. Should the risk be a national one with a period of one year or a permanent one? I went with a national one with the default one year period. I think the situation would have improved in a short time. Plus apparently you can't put a time period on a province revolt risk change command.

I also wasn't sure how to deal with the English revolters. Should I cause seperate events for Puritans, Royalist, etc. I decided that it would be too hard to determine what the loyalists would do presented with several different English countries to move to, so in the end I just made an event for England.

This is my first script, and is, yet, untested.

Edit1: Forgot to put a start date on the events.
Edit2: Corrected style to 18th century and decided to add 1 to the aristocracy rating since you would have a influx of Torries.

State of Franklin Flavor Event.

Thought I would post another event I created for my games:

event = {
id = 15003
random = No
name = "The State of Franklin."

desc = "Before North Carolina ceded her lands to Congress, the state government reserved jurisdiction over the region till Congress accepted them. This caused settlers in the region some concern over their security which caused settlers to quickly form a government. They then applied to become a state in the union. North Carolina exercised its jurisdiction over the territory which caused a civil war in that region. Congress, not wishing to antogonize North Carolina, didn't intervene in the conflict. The situation resolved itself when no successor was elected to fill the office of the governor of the newly created state and the defeat of the settlers by North Carolina."

country = USA
style = 4
#Happens during the Articles of Confederation Time Period#
trigger = {
OR = { event = 4994 event = 4995
NOT = {event = 3057 }
owned = { province = 64 data = -1 }
control { province = 64 data = -1 }
owned = { province = 65 data = -1 }
control { province = 65 data = -1 }
owned = { province = 66 data = -1 }
control { province = 66 data = -1 }
owned = { province = 56 data = -1 }
control { province = 56 data = -1 }
}

date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1773 }
offset = 0
deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1819 }

action_a = {
name = "Intervene."
command = { type = domestic which = centralization value = 1 }
}

action_b = {
name = "Let the situation resolve itself."
command = { type = domestic which = centralization value = -1 }
}
}

Decided that this event really affected centralization rather than revolt risk. I think either side really wasn't interested in leaving the US confederation at the time. Untested.

I'm kinda late here, but I don't know if anyone has brought up these USA related events....

IMHO, it would be nice to see a event about the Articles of Confederation in 1783, the Whiskey Rebllion of the early 1790's, the infamous Jay treaty with Britain also of the 1790's, the Louis and Clark Expedtion, and maybe something late in the game about US claims to Oregon.

As a history major and having a Masters in American History, I would be glad to help make such events, but I don't know how to MAKE them. I'd also be willing to beta test them on my machine and make sure that they all work.

Perhaps some more events could be added to other nations as well -- such as France would get something about the Quasi War fought with the USA in the 1790's, or Britan can see something to try to prevent the War of 1812.

Is anything being done at all about this? If not, I'd really like to help.

Please let me know how I can contribute to the cause. :)

Here's some ideas...

how about a center of trade in New Orleans?

Citizen Genet:

French minister to US who appealed directly to the American people to support the French revolution. So outrageous was his conduct that even the pro-French Jefferson approved of Washington's request to the French government that they remove the offending diplomat. I'm not sure what would be a good event for this though

Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions:

In response to Alien and Sedition acts (this could be an event also), Kentucky and Virginia put forth nullification doctrines, insisting that the federal government was a contract between states. The nullification ideas would be used again in the 1830's and until the Civil War.

Barbary Pirates event, event concerning slaves and slavery restrictions

Lambert, the Inca setup in 1419 is just as bad, for similar reasons. But let's say we use the NA tags to fix both situations (and that's gonna be controversial); can we then expect the AI Incas and Aztecs to establish their empires as they should? Or do we need to toss in a whole bunch of events to make them conquer? And if we do, haven't we burned a bunch of tags to make nations that most players will never encounter? (I was actually toying with assigning the provinces to REB)

Andravius, maybe the population effects in the Loyalists events should be targeted to specific provinces, instead of random ones. That way we can send the Loyalists to Canada instead of, maybe, Bombay, and no American province would be hit more than once.

I like the Loyalists event a lot, though it should probably be triggered by the existing peace treaty event (pity we can't have an offset from a trigger condition; it will fire the moment the peace treaty is signed).
Alas, the offset doesn't work the way you would like it to. I added and modified a few of the events surrounding the US Revolution in the 1.01 (or 1.02?) version.

Most of the new USA events had offsets to provide some variety to results, but I had to remove them and just have immediate event triggers. I changed the existing Loyalist event to have a large offset so that it would be likely to occur at some variable time after the probable US independence. Alas, that change didn't make it into the patch, so the event tends to fire very quickly, or not at all :)().

I am going to fix a couple of things with these events this week. Andravius, I like your Loyalist events, but I'm staying within the spirit of the existing event. Namely, that it is driven by the "historical" level of failure by the British, so it is only triggered by the major defeat Treaty of Paris event (4995). But I am going to use population changes in line with what you mention. 10,000 per province is way too much if the events occur as a result of a GC, as compared to 1773 scenario. BTW, I semi-arbitrarily chose the provinces that USA must own to constitute a major victory based on what I think were the important provinces. Reply with any suggested changes. I'm probably going to change the event offset to 0 or 5400 depending on how offset really works (I'll retest).

The major changes I contemplate for USA are to make all of the events like the Constitution, elections, etc. dependent on either of the peace treaties (4994 or 4995). The purpose of this is to make the historical events only occur when the historical conditions exist. To put it a different way, all the cool USA events should only exist if the US revolts from England. If the USA revolts from somebody else, like the Ashanti, then these events will be a bit absurd. But then, to do it really right would mean manipulating leaders and monarchs, too. Bugger!

SoulBlazer. Hmmm, good mainstream event ideas. Email me at StateMachine@bigfoot.com. I can do the coding. This pertains to anyone else with high impact events relating to either internal stability of the US, or relating to US diplomacy during the game period.

One request from AlanC9

I usually dont pay attention to the EEP project, so I must appology if this post is far out... But AlanC9 asked me to post my crude solution to the fackt that Spain is incapabel to conquire "Latine-America."

This is the Aztecan event, the other nations has similar events.

Yes I know it is crude and harsh, but IMHO its better than having no Spain Latin-America...

One reason for the seccesionist sentiment in New England was the federal government wanted to (or did) ban trade with all the warring European nations. Because overseas trade was a big piece of the New England economy, this was a major financial hurt. Consider towns such as Boston, Newport, Portland, Portsmouth, New London, New Haven, New Bedford, Fall River, and most of downeast Maine that existed for/by marine trade. It was later, in the 1830's, 1840's and 1850's, that New England became a manufacturing center.

A simple little no-option event could go something like ...

If France and England are at war, AND the timeframe is 1800-1820, AND the United States is formed, then:
'President Jefferson bans trade with warring nations'.
Revolt risk in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Penobscot and Bangor +2.

Sorry. Reality has intruded. I'll only be able to make a couple small fixes to the events. So, no new events.

More Aztec and Inca stuff: having looked at some maps, it's clear that the Aztecs never controlled Jalisco and Saltillo. These provinces should be removed from their setups.

By 1492, the Chimu had been conquered by the Incas, and the Zapoteks by the Aztecs. These should be changed in the 1492 setups.

Here are some events that cause Aztec provinces to go over to Spain if Spain takes them from the Aztecs (historically, Cortez had a lot of Tlaxcalans in his force when he conquered Tenochtitlan). Even an AI Spain can conquer the Aztecs with these. Well, sometimes....

Finally, here's something experimental. It increases native aggressiveness in North America until a wave of plauges reduce it to the normal values in the late 1500s. Note that there are a couple of aggressiveness-raising events; native aggressiveness isn't stored in the savegame, so I had to resort to this:( .

These might keep colonies from being founded too early .

Thinking of Loyalist events, one event that comes to mind is American compensation to the Loyalists. After the American Revolution, the British still held on to large parts of newly american territory such as Fort Niagara and forts on the Ohio. A deal was to be made for the Brits to hand over the forts. In return the Americans would pay compensation to the Loyalists for having burned down their homes and the like. The British did return the forts, but the American government gave in to public pressure and didn't pay compensation. This was also a major event which helped lead to the war of 1812.

The Choices could be something like

British Event

1. - Give up provinces of Onondaga, Irondequoit, Erie, Hindua and Detroit.

American Event (follows british event)

1. Agree to treaty
- Gain control of Onondaga, Irondequoit, Erie, Hindua and Detroit.
- Pay the Brits 500 or so ducats
- Take -2 Stability Hit
- Relations with Brits +50

2. Refuse the treaty
- Gain control of Onondaga, Irondequoit, Erie, Hindua and Detroit.
- Get +1 Stability
- Relations with Brits -75, they get CB for 24 months
