I dont think that Navarra should even be considered as a Spain contender. They are Basques.

LOL. And Aragon are Catalans.
Spain wasn't a cultural concept, but a geographical one (Hispania/Iberia)

I believe Navarre should be a Spain contender.

You're right. And also Portugal

. I think they should only get CBs on other territories when the acquisition becomes imminent (Aragon, Navarre, Granada, and Portugal).

Castile must have CB's on Granada and Gibraltar [it was part of Castile's Reconquista territory (Velencia being Aragon's)]

This has been explained many times before: Granada payed a gold tribute to Castile, so the Castilian kings weren't interested in annexing them. Untill Isabel.

But it'd be rather unhistorical for Aragon to violate the reconquista and invade Granada?

In fact it would cause war with Castile.

My beef with Spain is the different treatment that Aragon and Portugal get. I don't see why one is always annexed to Spain, while the other (if the historic choice is made) becomes a vassal. Realistically they were treated equally within the Spanish crown, each had it's own rights and raised its own revenue for the crown. As making Aragon a vassal causes problems for Spanish involvement in Italy, I'd propose that Portugal being annexed by Spain ought to be the historic event, and the Iberian revolts in 1640 made more severe. Plus a liberation of Portugal event would be needed so they can reclaim all their colonies. Ugly to code, but a cleaner result to me.

Ryoken69 - Included in the most recent EEP download are a series of Anglo-Spanish events that simulate English privateering & English support for the Dutch. Overall, the privateering events help England (+ treasury), while the Dutch events make a successful formation of the Netherlands more likely (+ revolts in the Dutch provinces). However, if both happen & England is not Catholic, Spain gets an event to declare war on England & get some revenge. If you don't have the most recent EEP download, I can post them here. Good luck with the Spanish events!

How could we code that? You can liberate Portugal because it's in revolt.txt, but the colonies aren't listed in the file, obviously.

I'm not sure but I was thinking that on Portuguese independence a Spanish event is triggers that cedes all Portuguese colonies/tradeposts to Portugual. Based on Tordesillas, which would be the way the computer colonized them. A pain to code, I know, but it's doable.

This may not be workable. But I can't stand that Aragon gets different treatment than Portugal. An alternative might be to vassalize Aragon, and cede their overseas possesions (everything but Catalonia, Rousillon, Gerona, Aragon, Valencia and the Balaerics) to Spain. Aragon could then be inherited by Phillip V, when they really were integrated. Or Charles III I suppose if the unhistoric choice is made.

Then Sicily, Sardinia and Naples would be getting different treatement than Aragon and Portugal. Ditto for the Netherlands.

How about making Granada vassals of Castile, then, since they perform duties to their liege?
NB- if they already are in the EEP as vassals, forgive me, as I have been unable to download it

One problem might be that England & the Dutch took advantage of Spain's control of Portugal to feast on Portuguese colonies. What if, at the time of the event, the English & Spanish are at war, & England controls several formerly Portuguese colonies? Wouldn't this mean that the English lose control over them when ownership changes back to Portugal from Spain. An English player would not be pleased with this! ;)

garbon:cool:

True enough, but the problem I am thinking of revolves around province control. Say England is at war with Spain. Because Spain annexed Portugal, it now owns all of Brazil. Say during the war England controls the Brazilian provinces, but the war continues (i.e. English control, but Spanish ownership). Then the event releasing Portugal occurs. Ownership of these provinces would revert to Portugal, & I think that England would lose its control over these provinces, since the two countries would not be at war. Hence England loses all of its war gains.

Also, the event would obviously only give back historical Portuguese provinces. What if Portugal never colonized Brazil, but, say, Spain conquered Dutch Brazilian provinces after the annexation of Portugal? Then Spain would have to hand over the Brazilian provinces regardless of the fact that Portugal had never owned them in the first place.
