The North Africa editing is far from over. Most of the time Morocco never goes below 2 for stability. I think I'll add more non-random events because the random ones rarely pop-up.

COT
I tried adding a COT in Fez to simulate trade in the region. Only Morocco and Fez had provinces in the COT and it had a value of 19. This COT seemed to make Fez a target for everyone and so I scrapped this idea.

Next I put a COT in Timbuktu but all it did was take trade away from Ivoria and Morocco/Fez never traded in it.

Finally I tried adding a COT in Anti Atlas (minimally fortified lvl 3 colony). This COT covered Morocc, Fez, Timbuktu, and Gao. In the mid 1400's it had reached a value of 33. Somewhat simulated trade historically as Fez, Morocco, and Songhai ended up trading in it. Also, it didn't seem to make Morocco a big target for everyone. Best of three COT placements.

Alliance/CB's/Relations
I took Fez out of the alliance with Algiers, because I found that to often the two ganged up and slaughtered Morocco. Instead I put Algiers with Tunisia (it always ended up joining anyways).

Morocco was given cb's on Tangiers and Fez which seemed to guide Morocco better. I also needed to decrease relations between Morocco and Fez to -100 and increase relations between Algiers and Fez to 100. Otherwise Morocco ignored Fez and then Algiers conquered it.

Does anyone know what the ideal outcome war between Fez & Algiers vs. Portugal? If we want Portugal to capture Tangiers, its best to comment Algiers out of the war.

Finally I cut Algiers starting forces down to 2000 infantry as it too often ate up everything.

garbon:cool:

BTW- What should I do to hurt relations between Songhai and Morocco, don't want them allying?

Maybe the XHO tag could be used for Oyo or Hausa States

I'm not sure about a CoT in there.

Tangiers should be Portugese, and they get it quite often. The thing you need to do is change the starting army somewhat so Pereira ends up in Africa, and he wipes those Fez and Algerian hordes nicely.

I'm not a fan of it, and really its a non-issue. It just seems strange/bad that Morocco sits there being unable to trade.

I'll check on this. I keep seeing Portugal get side-tracked by Algiers, ocassionally take Orania and then settle for 13 ducats from Fez.

As stated in Granada thread, I moved Morocco back into an alliance with Granada. This seems to work out well for both nations.

Work needs to be done to help Morocco preserve good relations with Algiers and Tunisia. Also work needs to be done to worsen relations between Songhai and Morocco.

Now that Portugal only is at war with Fez, Morocco takes out Fez with ease. The cb shield on Fez helps lower the bb points Morocco gets for taking what was "techinically" part of its nation. To this effect I am actually wondering the validity of having Fez exist since it wasn't really a nation.

well technically the Tuareg state should be in the area you intend on leaving open, the area you want to make the Tuareg state would be the Sanhadja confederacy.

And it wouldn't be called the 'Tuaregs' they were the Awellimiden Confederacy, since the Tuareg tribes weren't all in one big confederacy. Unfortunately the rest of the Tuareg confederacies are under PTI.

In my defense, I'm using the "Tuaregs" to represent the individuals who took over Timbuktu, the individuals who took over Walata, and later the individuals who take Timbuktu and Gao from Morocco control. For tag reasons, they are lumped together and generalized.

I end up putting the CoT in Tobukal province since there is also the problem of there in 1.1 one CoT short since one pops up real early if the Byzantines don't fall. You mentioned an event where Morroco recognizes U.S. independance. It is justifiable since that was the first nation to recognize American independance. Have you thought about Morocco getting CB's on Songhai so they would go to war? What about other CB's in the desert? One thing could be is to also give Portugal a CB on Tangiers so they would take that city. I'm also curious Garbon is if there are historical leaders that could be added in countries in North and West Africa since there were a lot of things happening.

Originally, I wanted to place a CoT in Fez and have Morocco take it over. Unfortunately, that made Fez a target for every nation, since it loses Tangiers early to Portugal. I tried a CoT in Anti Atlas (new level 3 colony) to lack luster results and so then tried moving the CoT to West Africa. I think this works because then it better represents trade in West Africa and eventually Morocco's colonies become part of this CoT. It also gives Morocco a goal/target. It doesn't help the fact that Morocco trades in Tago but, oh well.

You mentioned an event where Morroco recognizes U.S. independance. It is justifiable since that was the first nation to recognize American independance.

Thanks, I new there was some justification for my event:D.

Have you thought about Morocco getting CB's on Songhai so they would go to war? What about other CB's in the desert?

This goes back to the fact that I'm kind of backlogged. I want to finish setting up West Africa, before introducing the Morcocco take-over sequence. I'm just afraid of Morocco have cb's to early. However now that Songhai is pagan, the two hate each other to no end.

One thing could be is to also give Portugal a CB on Tangiers so they would take that city.

Actually Portugal almost always takes Tangiers now in the initial war if its only fighting Fez. I think though, this might be a bit early for Portugal to be taking Tangiers? I have no idea though. What really annoys me about this is that Morocco gets BB points for taking Fez which was part of its nation.

I'm also curious Garbon is if there are historical leaders that could be added in countries in North and West Africa since there were a lot of things happening.

Once again, I'd love if this were to be done, I just haven't the time to do such right now.

Actually Portugal almost always takes Tangiers now in the initial war if its only fighting Fez. I think though, this might be a bit early for Portugal to be taking Tangiers? I have no idea though. What really annoys me about this is that Morocco gets BB points for taking Fez which was part of its nation.

Well it depends on what you define Tangiers as. If you define it as Cueta, then Portugal should start owning or controlling the province. Portugal took Cueta in 1415 from Nasrid Granada.

In my hypothetical new setup, Morocco owns Fez and Tangiers as well. At the start Portugal is at war with Algiers and Morocco. Although Portugal captures many provinces it usually demands money of Morocco. This intial war occupies Portugal and moves it away from Aragon and Castile. Instead Portugal allies with some random nation. I haven't seen Granada be attacked yet.

To summarize:

Morocco owns Fez and Tangiers
Portugal is at war with Morocco and Algiers

Also, Portugal has +150 relations with England, this typically decreased to 100 once England eats Orleans. In any event, I think Portugal should start off with better relations with England then Castile.

I haven't completely posted it yet (other than the little bit above), but I have a whole new plan concerning Fez and Morocco. As we all now/the description for Fez states, Fez never really was a nation. Therefore Morocco should start off owning Fez and Tangiers with its capital in Tobukal. Morocco should, ideally, become Fez when the Wattasids take over in 1472. In 1505 when the Wattasid dynasty lost virtual control over southern Morocco, the bottom half revolts away. So Tangiers, Tobukal, and Fez are owned by Fez while everything southwards is owned by Morocco. Eventually Morocco should overpower Fez and absorb it completely so that the reign of the Sa'dis can truly begin.

Of course, in this sequence there are many extra events in case Morocco stays Morocco post 1472 or Fez overpowers Morocco post 1505. This sequence should make more sense once I debug & post the events.

I looked into this and I think that only Kabylia should be owned by Tunisia. If one takes the small south-western map and then zooms in on that image the fuzzy outline of the word Al-Djazer can be seen just outside of Tunisia's reach.

Tunisia should start out with Kabylia and eventually Algiers should be a vassal (during reign of Abu Amr Uthman-1435). After his death, Algiers should break the vassalage and Kabylia should be, perhaps revolted, to Algiers.

Looking more at Algiers, shouldn't its capital be in the province of Orania? From the 13th century to the 15th century, the capital of Algiers was Tlemcen which is located in the EU province of Orania. I can't find any mention of Al-Djazair prior to the Ottoman influence.

EDIT: This should read that the capital of Algiers is now in Orania:D

Does anyone know what the Cyrenaica revolter is suppose to represent? I can't find any mention of them even gaining psuedo-independence. The country desc isn't really too helpful either. I know that when the Ottoman Empire divided North Africa into regencies, there was Algiers, Tunisia, and Tripoli which included Cyrenaica. So where does this nation fit?
