Actually I need to re-update what I put down, I already removed the addition of the warships and infantry.

I'm looking at that, and if they do happen to pile up, then I'm just going to decrease it to +3 for 20 years. Mostly the +2 revolt risk will be cancelled out by the -4 religion bonus, but it'll hurt a war mongering Morocco (as it should).

I could change it to +2 aristocracy. The point of this is to show that the only real reason he would have stayed in Marrakech is if warring enemies/"nobility" prevented him from moving. Also Morocco will be decentralized for a long time so +3 will not change too much.

I was wondering about what to do for Ahmed al-Mansur. I'll comment out the luxury manufactory. I was kinda looking at what happened for Versailles since his accomplishments are compared to the Sun King's.

Choice B definitely needs changes, I didn't know what though. Maybe just a vp loss.

This is just something for no real reason. I like the event though so I'll cut the diplomats to one and make it random.

I thought about giving an option b but then decided against it. Fez wasn't really even a nation persay so I don't think there would be any hesitation for it to become Morocco, if there wasn't one. It basically was part of Morocco. Also, as stated earlier, I think that most of these events could be valid for either (since they are the same) and so for simplicity's sake, I'm only scripting the events for Morocco. That having been said, I somewhat understand the player wanting an option, but I have two things to say. Why are you playing Fez when you can play Morocco?:D Secondly, that's too bad you got attached to Fez, but it wasn't a nation so you don't get to be it anymore :rolleyes:

I really can't say why I increased relations with the Ottomans so I'll comment that out.

Al Mansur adopted administrative methods from the Ottoman Turks of southwestern Asia to govern his newly captured territory. Pashas, or governors were left to rule each area and were supported by a caid, or tax collector, who had enough military strength to police the area. The leader of this ruling dynasty came to be called a sultan.
In 1591 al-Mansur sent an expedition across the Sahara Desert into the present-day nations of Mali and Algeria to capture people for his slave trade, as well as to search for gold mines. Although members of the expedition failed to locate mines, they did establish forts at desert positions, such as Tombouctou. These outposts enabled al-Mansur to transport slaves across the desert. During al-Mansur's reighn, Morocco also became one of the continent's leading centers of trade in spices, cloth, and ivory.
However, the expedition attracted opposition from the ulama."

Neat. Although I'm wondering if his expedition should be split from his administrative accomplishments. I only suggest this because, there were some negatives from his expedition (i.e. rebellious "nobility" and the like). Maybe its not needed, I don't know.

Well its only that I think the expedition could be used as a stepping stone for Morocco to get involved with the Songhay Empire. As it is know, I only see Morocco enter West Africa by the late 17th century if at all. I actually see a lot of incidences where Morocco allies with Songhay which just isn't right. During the expedition he did capture a portion Songhay.

Also, when he went on the expedition to Songhay it was opposed by the ulama which could be represented as a revolt risk.

To summarize these ramblings, I think that the events could be split in two showing this administrative prowess (He did "sponsor a golden age of cultural revival" in Morocco:) ) and his military campaign to focus Morocco on Songhay.

I think if the event is split into two, perhaps centralization should be increased greater (for the administrative event) because he is credited as having been the first ruler to truly unify Morocco as a political entity.

For such a great guy, we shouldn't begrudge him two events :D As it is standing Ismail has two with the third on the way (as soon as I fix its script errors). I think these two reigns were two important for Morocco to give them only an event a piece.

On Ismâ'îl's third event: It will add three fortresses at a net -500 ducats to symbolize Ismail's fortification effort.

On another Morocco update I scripting events for the fall of Morocco's imperial glory (after Ismâ'îl ).

I think something needs to be done to represent the Battle of the Three Kings, (that gave al-Mansur his opportunity) but I'm not sure what.

Edited my event.
Al-Mansur's ADM stat in morroco's monarch file ("Ahmad II") is only 5. Do you think it should be higher? Also, I think that maybe you should tweak some of the monarch names if you have to.

Al-Mansur's ADM stats should definitely be higher than 5. `Abd Allâh I is given an adm of 9 (He had skill but I don't know if it was that great). So perhaps, Al-Mansur should have his ADM stat increased while `Abd Allâh I's is decreased (though not greatly).

On the name issue, I think some of the names should be changed as well as some of the monarch's reigns. Muhammed III rules in game from 1574 to 1578 although in reality only reigned from 74 to 76 when his uncle Abd Al-Malik took over. Paradox's file doesn't have Abd Al-Malik rule till 1627 although he died at the Battle of Three Kings in 1578. I think I shall do a bit more research to compile a more workable monarch file before changing anything yet.

garbon:cool:

EDIT: I realized I confused Abd Al-Malik with Abd Allah I so fixed my event texts.

While working on Morocco and North Africa, I kinda got side tracked by looking at West Africa. That whole area around Benin needed help because it wasn't at all historical. I know that the last thing that anybody wants is more African nations but they really are needed. I cut it down to only adding two:D

Here's what the area should look like:

West Africa

I gave Ivoria to Dahomey as an act of desperation. Perhaps it should go back to Benin since it was of Yoruba culture. Really was an independent area but oh well.

Oyo was a kingdom in its own right and deserves recognition. The capital city of Benin is more accurately placed in Accra, so I named Benin capital of Accra and Oyo captial of Oye.

I made Kano and Nupa Hausa states. This area received great distortion because the real Kano isn't that close to Oyo (acutally under PTI). Nupa ("Black Byzantium") was really independent like Ivoria but for the sake of tags I just included it with Kano. Eventually, Zaria should also become part of this Hausa state area.

And now its back to testing for Morocco.

garbon:cool:

EDIT: Don't know what to do about Ivoria. Benin or Edo didn't aquire that region until the 16th century but I guess this is better than Dahomey control.

Fez, Algiers, and Tunisia update

Here is a random event dealing with Maraboutism that I made for Fez and then copied for Algiers and Tunisia. I'm going to make a more specific random event for Morocco and a non-random one for Algiers that are a bit different.

event = {
id = 45200
random = yes
country = FEZ
name = "Maraboutism"
desc = "The dynasties of Maghrib often compromised with rural cults that survived the triumph of puritanical orthodoxy in the twelth century despite the efforts of the Almoravida and Almohads to stamp them out. In the countryside wandering marabouts or holy people, preached to large and devoted followings. Marabouts offered spiritual guidance, arbitrated disputes and often had their share of political power. Small republics ran by these holy men often prevailed in Maghrib. Authorities would grant political and financial favors to these leaders to prevent uprisings."
style = 2
deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1820 }
action_a = {
name = "Indulge the Marabouts"
command = { type = domestic which = centralization value = -1 }
command = { type = cash value = -50 }
command = { type = stability value = 1 }
command = { type = diplomats value = 1 }

command = { type = domestic which = centralization value = 1 }
command = { type = stability value = -2 }
command = { type = revoltrisk which = 1 value = 4 }

}
}

Morocco update

Here are some untested random events for Morocco. More are going to be needed during Morocco's period for political unity in the 15th century. Unfortunately, I don't have the time at the moment.

No, not really (for the random ones). I mean I guess they could but I haven't really finished the whole set and some of them might get cut out or altered.

The historical events for Morocco and the event for Fez to become Morocco should though.

I’m about to move ahead on my West Africa project. Massive Morocco tests this weekend.

Changes I want to make:

Channeling/Shaping of Ashanti state to make it the power it reached during the 1600s to 1800s. Basically
this involves having it eat up bits of Mali.

I’m also moving ahead with my creation of two new African states, Oyo and the Hausa states (well, at least the
Hausa states since Benin was nowhere near as large). Events for this/these new nation(s) and the actual
Benin Kingdom. Maybe something for Dahomey as well.

Also move capital of Benin to Accra and change capital of Oye to either Oyo or the other name for Old Oyo, can't recall, for accuracy of location of these cities.

Finally I want to fix Songhai so that it actually falls though I don’t know who to give the provinces too.
The nearby neighbors didn’t grow new states emerged, though I don’t want (and no one wants) to eat up
tags for those little insignificant nations.

Morocco Update

Gave Morocco cb's on Tangiers and Fez. Both were parts of Morocco.

While testing Morocco for the player I found that Songhai offered to enter an alliance with me. I think that a great worsening of relations between these nations is needed so this doesn't happen. Morocco should destroy Songhai not ally with it.

Also I think that perhaps a COT should be placed in Fez or somewhere nearby. It doesn't seem right that Morocco can't trade in any COT's until it a) learns of Ivoria or b) takes a port away from someone. Plus the fact that why would all these Arabs be trading in Tago.

If I want my random events for Morocco to occur more often do I have to create copies of them with different id's?

West Africa Update

To simulate the Songhai Empire's fall, I've decided to decentralize Songhai greatly after its collapse. This way no extra tags are needed as decentralization reflects that Songhai was not a cohesive state. Events to push Morocco to grab Timbuktu and Gao (move Songhai's capital a la Constantinople=>Morea). Of course there will have to be an out for a player playing Songhai.
Also Zaria should be part of the Hausa States (new nation) after fall to simulate this Hausa State.

Mali will eventually become Segu Bambara in 18th century. No name change / tag change but capital moves to Segu.

Ashanti should have events to relate that it wasn't a nation or one unified state until much later in the GC.

North Africa Update

The North Africa editing is far from over. Most of the time Morocco never goes below 2 for stability. I think I'll add more non-random events because the random ones rarely pop-up.

COT
I tried adding a COT in Fez to simulate trade in the region. Only Morocco and Fez had provinces in the COT and it had a value of 19. This COT seemed to make Fez a target for everyone and so I scrapped this idea.

Next I put a COT in Timbuktu but all it did was take trade away from Ivoria and Morocco/Fez never traded in it.

Finally I tried adding a COT in Anti Atlas (minimally fortified lvl 3 colony). This COT covered Morocc, Fez, Timbuktu, and Gao. In the mid 1400's it had reached a value of 33. Somewhat simulated trade historically as Fez, Morocco, and Songhai ended up trading in it. Also, it didn't seem to make Morocco a big target for everyone. Best of three COT placements.

Alliance/CB's/Relations
I took Fez out of the alliance with Algiers, because I found that to often the two ganged up and slaughtered Morocco. Instead I put Algiers with Tunisia (it always ended up joining anyways).

Morocco was given cb's on Tangiers and Fez which seemed to guide Morocco better. I also needed to decrease relations between Morocco and Fez to -100 and increase relations between Algiers and Fez to 100. Otherwise Morocco ignored Fez and then Algiers conquered it.

Does anyone know what the ideal outcome war between Fez & Algiers vs. Portugal? If we want Portugal to capture Tangiers, its best to comment Algiers out of the war.

Finally I cut Algiers starting forces down to 2000 infantry as it too often ate up everything.

garbon:cool:

BTW- What should I do to hurt relations between Songhai and Morocco, don't want them allying?

Maybe the XHO tag could be used for Oyo or Hausa States
