The problem with this is the extreme unlikeliness that the A.I. will choose the same options that the player did. One solution I thought of, would be that each side gets to choose different options. For exampel the Pope gets to choose the meeting place, but Byzantium gets to choose what to do with heretics, and so on. This way both sides will have a say, and you will still have a level of randomness as the ai may choose an option other than choice a. This would at least give the united church thing a chance of happening.

Any thoughts?

The problem is that the idea of the Catholic and Orthodox churches actually uniting is (or should be) tremendously small. The whole movement from 1419 to present is for the Christian churches to splinter and fragment, not to unite.

Apparently the Anglican and Catholic churches have been trying to agree to re-join for many years now, but despite having far fewer doctrinal differences that the Orthodox and Catholics do haven't been able to manage it.

Isn't the default for the Inheritance event effectively "nothing happens"? The Byzantine inheritane is the B or C option.

And by the way, can anyone suggest some Byzantine / Greek colony names? New Thrace just isn't cutting it for me.

Yes, the default option for the AI is nothing happens, since that's what happened. :)

BB, why don't you try the 7 churches of Asia? (Someone help me here) Philadelphia, Ephesus, Miletus, Pergamom, uh ... Nicaea? Nicopolis? Chalcedon? I don't know. Anyway, those would be names that good Orthodox colonizers might use.

Troy, Sparta, Corinth, etc.

Massilia, Dyrrhachium, Taurus, Caesarea, Antioch, Jerusalem, Alexandria, Edessa, Amida, Theodosiopolis, Tarragona, Carthage, Syracuse.

How's that?

The bad thing about all those is, they all already exist as cities. :)

Well, just stick New in front of them. Unless you want to fabricate completely new names, that's pretty much the way colonization's gonna go. Besides few of those cities are actually in EU2.

driftwood

Sticking New in front of them would have much the same feel to it as the current labeling system of New Thrace, etc..
Someone should come up with all new names. I would do it myself, but I don't speak Greek. :)

An easy solution would be to take some other countries colonial names and simply translate them into Greek.

I'll check the history to see... It might be just that

You'll still see the event in the message log. Something like "Athens went with Don't give it to the schizmatic Greeks in Inheritence of Athens" or whatever the text is. But, if they pick to not give it to you, you won't get a pop up message; you'll just have to happen to notice it in the message log.

Not a terrible idea - does anybody know what is Greek for "New"?

A good idea would be to use the more famous Greek city-names not used in the map already, like Nikaia, Thebes, etc.

The world for new in Greek you'd put before a city name would be "Nea". The infinitive is "Neo", but the possesive form has an a. Much like in the name Basilea Rhomaion. Basileos is the regular form,(I think), but since it is Roman Kingdom (implies it is a Kingdom of the Romans), it would be Basilea.

Anyways, do that and you're fine. Stuff like Nea Athina, Nea Pella, Nikaia, a Nea Alexandria, etc. And some of the more typical city naming practices of the Romans ie - naming cities after Emperors. Stuff like Andropolis, Ioannopolis, et cetera.

Hello.

Long time reader, first-time poster. I've played far too many EU2 games, including a couple as the Byzantines (not sure what recessive trait draws people to them, but I clearly have it). Enjoyed them greatly, even before the EEP events arrived, and more after they did. I was wondering if anyone had scripted any hypothetical flavor events for the Byzantines - some sort of imaginary Byzantine reactions to Western intellectual events, or something like that. If such things don't exist, would there be any interest in them? I thought that a few minor events might be a way to throw some interesting and unique pop-ups at the players without overly changing game balance.
