Oh, I see. I wasn't saying it should have DP triggers. My point is that if you have money and want to colonize the firat option is a no-brainer, if you don't have money you go for the second. If you are totally broke or specially if you are not colonizing you get a bucketload of money and free tech investments...

I guess you can say I'm not too fond of too good events :p (Specially unhistoric ones ;))

Ah, well perhaps there should be a few negatives tied to it then.:) Anyway I´m thinking on a few rather nasty revolutionary events so there shouldn´t be any worries on to much good. In fact most events that me and driftwood has made carries some hefty penalties with them or are outright bad for ya.;)

I'm kind of agnostic on this whole subject. Most of the Paradox events are heavily unbalanced, one way or the other. I mean, they're just no-brainers! As various people like Crook and Havard ;) have made murmurs of discontent at my events, I moved towards making each choice contain some good and some bad, along with a status quo choice that hurts you in the long run.

That said, I'm not sure that the player needs much more guidance by the 17th century. Who isn't going to be expanding? So maybe it would be more interesting to write events that presuppose colonization. Maybe a revolt of the colonial governor in Isfahan or Goa. A religious dispute caused by a new movement in Orthodoxy spawned in Taiwan. Stuff like that.

I'm not saying, Dunkel and any others, that these events are bad and you shouldn't keep working on them. I'm just musing outloud (online?).

Yeah I have to agree. Many of the events you get with the game are so incredible one sided so compared to them we make the job better. :cool:

Well, I'm certainly not trying to give the player an unfair advantage. Simply being a human player gives a big enough advantage over the AI.

When it came to this event, though, I didn't think I was giving any seriously unfair advantages. Much of what you get from the event, you would get anyway. Some of it, yeah, is nice. But there are other event for other nations that are pretty much win-win situations, aren't there? And most of the Byzantium events that have been scripted have all had bad with any good, right? So what's wrong with giving Byzantium one event that's a no-brainer?

The "precursor" event I mentioned, maybe it isn't necessary...but I don't think it was really giving the player anything they couldn't or wouldn't have on their own anyway.

Anyway, I'm, of course, willing to go back and tweak things...but, for the most part, I think it's a good event. Maybe making the last choice more of a "status quo" choice, so you don't get anything, but you don't lose anything either?

I wouldn´t think so. To much fuss I think. Anyway v1.1 or whatever it´s gonna be called will see some major overhaul and this time the events that was broken for one reason or another will actually work.

Joak was the one who said adding the deathdate caused the events to all fire. That was the only change.

I do believe those events were my creation :)

Sadly, I have no event scripting experience, nor the time to learn, as I am in the midst of ending my junior year, complete with various squabbles and troubles. Though I am happy to help out and give advice if anyone would care to actually script those events :)
