No offense taken. After all I asked for feedback :). I guess I was thinking centralization vs. authority to the nobles but I can see your point as a weak ruler will be easily manipulated. Perhaps it should be:

Keep Demetrios: +10 inflation +2 stability +1 serfdom -1 quality -1 Aristocracy

Thomas co: -2 stability +1 aristocracy

Lose Demetrios: -4 stability +2 aristocracy

something like that perhaps?

I had owning Thrace a requirement b/c if Constantinople is lost to the Turks I figure the situation would already be so hopeless that no one would bother to challenge Demetrios' claim.

Neither of those monarch IDs are in David Comnenus' monarch file at least as of the version on this thread....I dont know which one I downloaded in the EEP exchange Beta.

The formatting doesn't matter. Do you get a loading error or is the event just not popping up? You DO have an offset of 7000 days on it, did you give it that long to occur? You need to put something in the first event that sleeps the second if you choose another action.

Also, what is going to prevent someone from experiencing the first event, sending 5000 people from Constantinople, and then getting your event and sending another 5000?

You might want to consider the scale of your DP changes. There are 8 Anatolian events, so you could move some of those DP sliders by 16 places each. :D

Also, what would the sequence of province taxvalues be? +1 if ruled imperially, +2 if land is sold to nobles, +3 if land is sold to everyone?

On a related note, I had an idea today. To simulate the rush of people to denuded provinces after the expulsion of the Turks, I think I'm going to give the player 6 colonists. Then you can send almost a city's worth of colonists! At a <cough, cough> slight cost. :)

When I hit F12 and type in "event 91023" it doesn't come up at all. It's irking me because I've coded several events before and have never run into this stubborn problem. It looks good, I can't figure out what's wrong. Also, the Greek settlers event, has no trigger. It is only triggered by you expelling the Turks. But the main idea of it came with the fact that Byzantium can't convert to Protestantism, so this way you sorta get the perks. Also when Henry VIII seized lands from the Church, he sold them off to whomever could afford it, allowing the rise of the gentry class. Rise of a gentry class would have serious effects further on in English history, but you probably know that already. He could've ruled like an autokrat, like the French kings. Instead chop chop. Some provinces when hit with the Expel the Turks, get huge drops. Alexandretta should be Armenian. So should Taurus actually. Both get HUGE drops with the population. And something would naturally be done with this land. Like having the monarch rule it himself and gain personal revenue. :D Or sell it off and empower the nobles. Or worse yet sell it off to the highest bidder and empower the merchant middle class. Also the events begin in 1475 with the Reclamation of Anatolia, I'm trying to balance it out more saying you can do it on a province by province basis once Ottoman Empire no longer exists. With a 3650 offset. Ten years later it begins. This was a consistant argh with me playing, because I actually timed the fall of Bursa and the fall of the Ottomans to 1453. Constantine died besieging the city. So, any advice? I want to begin a REAL new game soon, loaded with events.

Well you can edit or remove the dates/offsets. For testing purposes this usually works better than using F12, I've found. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I realize that a human player might conquer the Ottoman Empire very quickly, but since there's no way to say that one event happens X amount of time after a previous one, I used the starting dates to space things out.

Believe me, you don't want to get the Renaissance, Economic Reforms, Hagia Sophia, Themata, and Reclamation of Anatolia events at once. The stab hits and revolts are rather painful.

You forgot the Hexamilium, which always comes right when I'm a) in a war, and b) broke. :mad: If the Despotate of Morea was a revolter, forgetaboutit. When I key event xxxxxx it never comes up. But, when I key the Sivas expulsion event to trigger this one, it shows the refugees events will be triggered, but notthe depopulated lands. Which, after the Reconquista was a problem Spain had. Huge areas of land, completely depopulated.
I agree with your assesment of the Renaissance and everything else coming all at once. Maybe 1475 is a bad date to start and it really should be 1492, and not so high an offset. But the idea of sitting on the Turks for a hundred years, ugh. I'm just testin things out so far, modifying other country's events and some from the EEP, see what might work, what might not for me. I wanted to play Byzantium cause the Reconquista is too easy. I get Torquemada then the Expulsion of the Moriscos. Done. Really to make the gameplay fair, Bursa should a) be sunni, b) have a conscription center, c) turks should be at level 2 land tech, d) and have three armies of 50 each. I think Constantinople was besieged by 250,000 troops if I remember correctly. And the City of Man's Desire shouldn't be changing Smyrna's culture. It should move the conscription center if there is one. Wallachia should also be a vassal. A new Setup maybe?

Yeah, the Hexamilium's probably gonna hurt. :) That's the price you pay for getting a level 2 fort years early!

I only have one idea why your event's not working. Did you start a new game and where did you put your new event? If you put it in a seperate file, and then loaded a savegame, the savegame will not check events.txt - it has an internal version at the second instance of "history = " within the savegame file. So maybe it can't find your new file?

You have to sit on the Turks because you're "converting" the entire native population to Byzantine loyalty. Even if half or more of them were originally good, Byzantine subjects, they've spent many generations now thinking of themselves as Turkish citizens. So just like they didn't become Turks overnight, they won't revert to Byzantium overnight.

If you want a speedier resolution, you don't have to send the settlers...

Can anyone tell me if the monarch-choosing event (the first one) works properly? We've had some bug reports, and I'm not sure what the problem is.

Also, I would like some feedback on the last event, not listed here, about merchants demanding lower taxes. Would this imply higher or lower mercantilism?

You know, the taxes question is a lot tougher than it first appears. Usually, you would think low taxes = freer merchants = lower mercantilism. However, mercantilism primarily applies to foreign competition, not internal taxes, so that's not necessarily the case. I'd actually recommend moving the Aristocracy slider towards Plutocracy (which clearly favors merchants) and perhaps lowering Centralization as well due to less governmental control/income.

Marquoz - that's what I was thinking, too. Since the thrust of the event is that you're caving to the merchant-interests by lowering taxes, and they would presumably demand more protection, that would imply lowering mercantilism. I'm not sure about increasing plutocracy, because this debate doesn't really involve the aristocracy. But the centralization slider does move.

please forgive the total n00b question, but how do I copy and paste in the changes? I mean, I know how to copy and paste things. What I'm not sure about is what to put where. Do I just copy the whole bit of code and just paste it straight into the post_byz file? Or do I have to copy each seperate event and paste the new one directly over the old one?

Ok, and one more thing. I was looking at the event code and saw something funny. If I choose not to reestablish the themata, it sleeps event 90009, which is the economic reforms, therefore no CoT, which is what happened in my last game. Why would you do this? What would not bringing back the themata have to do with have economic reforms later?

Also, how come I'm not getting the Great Naval Reform event? I've played the EEP_GC with Byzantium several times now and have never gotten it. I've looked at the triggers and I've met the requirements. Is it because I'm usually getting the two necessary islands after the start date for the event?

Oops, deleted the wrong line. I was supposed to delete the line that slept event 90009, and instead deleted the line that sleeps 90003. I'll go fix that now.

Yeah, you have to find each event in post_byza.txt and paste the new version over the old.

You're probably not getting the Great Naval Reform because you didn't get the economic reform event. It's one of the triggers. But since you should get the economic reforms now, you should get the naval reform.

I don't remember the specific changes. Mostly they tweaked the amounts DP sliders moved, the revoltrisk from various actions, and the number of revolts that would occur.

Sometimes only 1 or 2 numbers changed in an event, but then I had to go and repost the whole thing. :)
