Does anyone know who Edward Mappin O'Brien is? I was browsing an excellent Royal Genealogy website today and stumbled upon his name... the interesting thing about him was his title: Governor of Isle of France. An Irishman as the governor of Isle of France? Searched the web but found nothing...Perhaps could have happened during the Revolution--anyways, I was able to trace his ancestry all the back to Brian Bóruma macCennétig, King of Munster and High King of Ireland (born 926 CE !) If anybody has any info on this individual I'd really appreciate some help...

Isle of France is what Mauritius was known as. AFAIK that island was occupied by Britain 1810-14.

Edit: And kept until 1968.

Thanks a lot for the info Brain, for some reason the website listed him as one of the rulers of France--so I naturally assumed Isle of France was the Ile de France in France :)
