Sorry but I object this.

[Quote?Henry](2) When you have to make a historical choice, such as the Ottoman Empire's decision as to whether to implement the Sheikh-al-Islam office, you should then be told what the country actually did in real history. I always reject the Sheikh-al-Islam but (as shown by a later event) it seems that the Ottoman Empire implemented it.[/quote]

Doesn't that second event ruin your game? It does for me. As Sweden there is an event where I get all sorts of nastiness because of russian meddling in my internal politics. The fact that Russia is a two-prov minor and that the entire eastern/baltic europe is a swedish core doesn't stop them from bullying me, thrice.

I choose the ahistorical option, and three months later I'm forced to deal with the outcome of the historic one, thats neither a game nor a simulation. It's a badly scripted movie.

I think they should continue with their previous/current strategies--just the idea of making it educational, even if only a secondary or teritary objective, seems to me likely to reduce the fun factor.

In EU2, sometimes I'll pick a country and be content with nibbling around the edges of history. I'll try to restrain myself into following a more-or-less historical path, and it'll annoy me when the AI isn't being cooperative. Other times I'll take control of Kongo and try to colonize the new world (or something), and I'll be annoyed when the game tries to force history down my throat. Seems like a pretty difficult task balancing these two conflicting desires. I think EU2 did a decent job for the most part.

I think the game should, if anything, favor giving us more freedom to do what we want, and let the mod-makers work their magic in providing us with a more rigidly historical game.

I'd love to see some sort of biographies for leaders. It'd be a great help in getting into the mindset of my country, and it'd make for an interesting read. But, as someone mentioned earlier, more text to translate means more money. I'd be happy if PE laid the general framework for it and let the modders finish it off.

I think the event description style in previous games does a good job in letting players know what the historical option is. In most cases...

I don't know about being sold as an educational tool, but people are sure to learn at least some history when playing and enjoying their time...educational AND fun! :D

If EU3 suits college education, then it's not a good situation. Either it will make the game to be more complex than I like my games, or then the colleges need to severely dumb down. Loose-loose if you ask me:)

The complexity is not a problem if the player simply decides not to click on the icons to get additional information. The same could apply to the actual historical choice; there can be an option to click on an icon and see what the country actually did but it need not be exercised. In other words, the game would be playable for pure entertainment or entertainment plus knowledge.
