I've had something similar just the other day happen though it was a good thing:
As The Great and Powerful Wladizlaw "The Ironside" Piast I married off my sister matrilienially to one of the younger sons of the king of France. I stop paying attention to her only to suddenly realize decades later her grandson is now King of France and more importantly still a Piast, I didn't interfere in any way but I looked at his character screen and saw he evidently grew up speaking French. In this case it's a good thing he went native because then he actually has a shot of keeping the title versus if he was still Polish the AI would rustle its jimmies into the 5th dimension

So to make super sure that I'm still his ally and that the Piast line will thrive in France I married him off to my granddaughter, if the Mongols take all my demense in Poland I hopefully can migrate to France

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies.

Okay, so I tested out swapping my king for someone with a good education traits when educating children. I've got mixed results but there seems to be a pattern of the child picking up a better education trait the earlier you swap out the educator. But swapping out the educator without giving enough time for adjustment might lead to a worse education overall. What do you folks normally do?

First test - Indulgent Wastrel king. I gave the child to a Midas Touched the exact day before she became 16. Result - Amateurish Plotter?
Second test - Fortune Builder. Gave child to a Midas Touched the day before he became 16. Result - Indulgent Wastrel (...)
Third test - Fortune Builder. Gave child to a Midas Touched at the beginning of the month before he became 16. Result - Fortune Builder
Fourth test - Fortune Builder. Gave child to a Midas Touched three months before he became 16. Result - Midas Touched
Fifth test - Fortune Builder. Gave child to a Fortune Builder three months before she became 16. Result - Fortune Builder

I know it's not a scientific series of tests - in addition, a couple of these kids were the exact same kid, just reloading the game. But I guess next time it will be a good idea to transfer the kid to a top-quality educator about three months before they turn 16, or after they receive a trait in their 15th year in the hope that they are unlikely to gain two traits in the same year.

So what makes the ideal educator? Apart from MrHuman, of course. In order of decreasing importance, someone with of the same or desired culture, a top-tier education trait, as high stats as possible, and hopefully without any teachable good-for-nothing traits?

In light of this, I think I will have to review my education policy slightly for my other courtiers, to favour people with top-tier education traits instead of just looking at raw stats. Apart from making sure that my good breeding stock isn't turned chaste or homosexual (or homicidially ambitious).

Try to use my method, prioritise SUM(all stats) and ovoide negative traits, but I useally avoiding only few, celibate (we do not want celibate heirs, slotfull, posessed) I generally ignore everything else.
In my opinion better traits override negative traits. So, Unless my king os very good himself, I allmost never educate my children myself. So, NO swithching, just try to get best educators period.

What you want to do basically is to land your son (ruler B I guess), before marrying him to the Queen of Castille. That way they will maintain separate courts. More importantly, the children of the union will go to the court of their primary parent (which is determined by the type of marriage they are in). Since your son is still a noble in your realm, you will be able to request to educate the children (and not be refused for the reason of "child would be hostage of foreign power").

Are you sure about this? I thought that the higher ranking parent got decisions about guardianship regardless of the type of marriage, but I haven't tested it in a while.

Generally though the type of marriage determines the birth culture & religion (regular means father's, matrilineal mother's), and then the person who's court they are a member of will normally try and educate them to their own culture/religion.

The other problem is that whoever's court they are in also gets to decide marriages, so I've had my eldest grandson matrilineally married off by his mother before.

Even if you are a Fortune Builder, you can still educate your children to be Midas Touched.... I've done this about a gazillion times. There is nothing thats says that a ward can't get a higher level education then their tutor.

I misspoke about being able to land and then marry your kids (wasn't sure what I was thinking there), but the primary parent is definitely determined by the type of marriage, and therefore the court they will stay in.

I had once married my youngest daughter matrilineally to a born in the purple 3rd son of a former Byzantine Basileus. I designated this daughter heir, and upon ascending the throne, pushed her husband's claim for Byzantium. My character's primary title was that of a queen, yet she retained her children in her court, despite her husband being of higher rank.
