Hey!

Sorry if this question cropped up somewhere else already - it probably did - but I could not find the answer anywhere...

The problem: A friend of mine and I had a nice little multiplayer game going (SU and CHC) until we noticed several already researched techs had been 'forgotten' by the Chinese scientists - a bug that had plagued us now and then in the past (always hitting player who did not host the game) but not six times in a row.

So we figured we'd edit the savefile and manually add the missing techs to China's repertoire... I located the relevant lines in our .eug file and added the techs, no problem - they showed up as 'researched' when we loaded the game. Unfortunately, although e.g. Basic Mountaineers are known and Improved Mountaineers could be researched, the game refuses to acknowledge this - Latest model is Mountain '36, same with other techs.

So, these are my questions:

1. What is the reason behind this 'loosing' of tech on the client side, and how can it be avoided?

2. What is the easiest way to modify the savegame in respect to 'technologies known'? Using the official editor seems to be suicide and the HoiEditor does not support adding techs yet - or so I heard...

1) Some sort of syncronization issue?

2) You have to look at the effects of each technology and add those effects to the country data. Or you could have the friend temporarily cancel current research, then give him a 100000% research mod, then research those six lost techs, and turn research mod back to normal.

The HoiEditor does not yet support savegame editing

1) That's probably it, since the problem can be circumvented by saving just before China finishes a tech, reloading the game while switching roles (host/client-wise) and playing on. However, this is quite stressful.

2) Sounds good! Could you point me to some instructions on how to do one of those things? I'm afraid I'm not much of a modder...

First, remove those techs that you added for China. Then, search China's section for research_mod. Change it to something like 10000000000000

Save, load as China, and research those techs in mere days.

Go back into the .eug file, find China's section, and change research_mod back to what it was before.
