Hey all,

I haven't really played CK 2 in a while (being a dad and all that), but siren's call has me, so I booted up my NEW laptop and opened steam...

Well, here is my issue. Part of the fun of this game has been the ability to get into the save file and make a character and realm that inspires me. I have done this since CK1 and even compiled reference tables for all the... well geekyness.

So here is my issue. When I went to edit the save file, I found a bunch of gibberish, not the orderly spread of data that I recall. I don't recall downloading any special programs or languages before, but I went ahead and downloaded some of the modding language files posted here on the threads etc., and I still can't read the save file.

I am assuming that this is related to recent updates, but I can't find anything online to assist and/or explain.

Advice?

So...

This is a perfect example of spending an hour on a problem and then asking for help LITERALLY minutes before you find the answer.

The problem was that the Save Files were COMPRESSED.

If you have had this issue as well, the solution is to note a small box next to the "Saved Game File Name". This box will compress the save file. This option does not exist for Ironman games, as the game saves automatically and is therefore always compressed.

It indeed is due to the compression. They are not only compressed, but also encrypted. The point is to prevent people to cheat on achievements. Hence why ironman means compression no matter what. It used to be that for non ironman the default was saves not getting compressed. It was changed to the default being all saves being compressed and encrypted a while back.
