Elected as Deputy for Andenne in 1994 under the banner of the BSU, he quickly rose in prominence within the party and became party leader in the run up to the 1999 election. While failing to lead the party to victory, he secured the BSU's position within the next government and became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance (1999-2004). He ended up leading the BSU to victory in 2004, with the party gaining a large number of seats.

((The Conservative Progressive Party and the BSU in government together...madness!?))

((Not so crazy when you realize that there is nothing saying that the CPP controlled the PMship from 1999 -2004.))

((Speaking of which, and seeing as we should probably do something to combat the rampant dynasticism that has lingered on into the 21st century, do we want to go ahead and create NPCs to fill in the gaps? Then I can complete my list and start making it look pretty. :)

Also, for those interested, Ditto's life post-1936 will be out in the coming days – as will the lives of the rest of my characters unaccounted for as of the game end.))

((I say that Heinrich Dieter from Eupen should be the PM for the NDP for those 5 years alongside a suitably NDP President, call him Peter van Hoos))

((As I said I made up names for NPCs that can be used for PMs and Presidents to fill in the gaps up to the present. If you want I can send it to you and you can pick the names you like best or rearrange the names if you want.))

((For '99-'04? Heinrich Dieter sounds fine, though we already have a van de Werve as president then. I can stick van Hoos in between '04 and '09 if you like.))

((By all means, please do.))

((Charles Poirot already takes up '04 to '09. van Hoos has to go somewhere else, perhaps from '09 to present.))

((That's a Vanderhoof, make him in the 50s or 60s?))

((Forget about what I just said, realized you were talking about the presidency and not the PMship. Van Hoos can go from '04 to '09, although I would think that a BSU person would be better suited for that period.))

((A socialist President with such a conservative PM seems highly unlikely. Put a BSUer before Muller's PMship -- it would certainly help explain how and why he was elected.))

((Yes, but highly unlikely. Unless some other coalition was absolutely impossible. Which seems…unlikely.))

((I believe you are mistaken. A socialist, Charles Poirot, was PM from 2004 to 2009. No Muller has been PM since Ernst Muller, although Wilhelm Muller is currently Minister of Finance for the non-existent Prime Minister Vanderhoof.))

((So far there is not that much of a correlation between what party wins the presidency and which party holds the PMship. It is in fact possible that some NDP-BSU coalition with some other party in it did form from 1999-2004 and there is nothing contradicting this fact so far. Therefore, I have no reason to change my epilogue and will not be doing so.))

((I meant Ernst. ;)))

((Hendrick Loewen became President in 1979. Laurens Vanderhoof became PM for the second time in 1980. It is certainly possible that such a thing happened as we have no idea what happened between 1979 and 1980, and as I said there is not much correlation between which party wins the presidency and which party holds the PMship.))

((Au contraire. All IG PM's had the backing of a coalition of which the President was a political member of.))

((The bottom line is that I am not changing my epilogue. Perhaps the CPP did particularly bad in 1999 for one reason or another or some Flemish nationalist party took so many seats in Parliament that it prevented the formation of a gov without the presence of the BSU. Seeing as there is an NDP PM for that period the former scenario is probably the most likely. Whatever happened the unlikely scenario of the BSU being in the gov coalition under a conservative president occurred.))

((Quit being so stubborn, man. Sheesh.))

It wouldn't be too odd to have a BSU-NDP coalition under a Conservative president in 2000-something. After all, just look at the Netherlands; the BSU and NDP equivalents are the largest parties, while the three Conservative parties together have lost extremely badly over the last few years and hold barely any seats. Now, Conservatives do in this game have... strong characters so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for one to be elected President in such a political landscape.

((Conservatives returned themselves to first party status and remain in the big three, they didn't collapse or anything in the game.))
