<sarcasm>Roll Up, Roll Up! Ladies and Gentlemen! It seams I have a miracle skill; I have mastered the art of being a liberal AND a socialist at the same time! I must spread my gift to the world! <sarcasm/>
Also, I would like to file a formal complaint about Ernest van't Boske, his actions are not becoming of a minister of this parliament.

((TH I think you mixed me up with Gars Malou Rapace ((JackLBollda)) by accident as I'm not running for party leadership, I'm running for presidency. ))
I fear you have spoken too rashly, sir. 'Minister' is not synonymous with 'deputy'. A minister is a member of the government who holds a portfolio. A deputy is merely a member of parliament.

As an actual Minister of this government, I find the actions of both Deputy van't Boske and Deputy di Picardie to be petty and unbecoming. There are people who actually voted for you for God's sake. Try not to act like children.

((I agree. Btw, I'm in no way connected to JackLEagle(?)... Anyhow, this has all become rather unclear.))
Amidst this electoral chaos, I must bow out of the CCU leadership race. It has become unclear what exactly I or anyone else in my party is running for. I endorse my fellow party member, Hans Müller, in his race for... something. I have no idea what he's running for.

WHEN I received my copy of Mr. Chodźko's latest novel for review, I was rather surprised by what I found myself reading. Indeed, the novel was not a novel at all, but a work of what would probably be classified as non-fiction travel writing – though 'travel' seems a wholly inappropriate description having read the book. Senseless in Java follows the author's brief experiences as a war correspondent in Batavia. It is not a work of great wit and humour – which, given the subject matter, is forgivable – though still imbued with Chodźko's masterful way with words. Conjuring up the full and true experiences of the battlefield – horrifying and otherwise – the author manages to put across his pacifist leanings far more eloquently than had he chosen instead to simply pen an abstract thesis on the pity of conflict.
Senseless in Java is as modern a book as any of the author's recent fiction. Chodźko's reportage is vivid and cinematic – not at all prosaic or didactic – and through it, he manages to weave an almost 'semi-narrative' that speeds along with the battles and soldiers it depicts. It is a work of literature that belongs wholly in the new age, eschewing the values of the last century by holding them up to the light and exposing them as unsuitable. For any affected by the idea that the end of the colonial age may be right around the corner, the book is both encapsulating and essential.

((Apologies - and fixed. I made a mistake because I copy-pasted the last Primaries update, when I gather Otto was running... Sorry for the inconvenience.))
