@Melchisedek Full mobilization/wartime economy as soon as I possibly can. This is primarily because mobilization build cost and time reduction also apply to factories in this mod, so I enact 3-year conscription and burn down the dissent ASAP to receive these bonuses. When the war begins, I enact general mobilization right away. In other mods and vanilla Darkest Hour, I usually only partially mobilize but this mod is punishing enough to demand a full wartime economy from the moment you can enact it.

Playing as Germany. Year 1950. USA still at war with Japan. Virtually no change since 1944, when US managed to annex Thailand. Theoretically they should level Japan with A-bombs, but after throwing 2 bombs somewhere in Indochina they somehow forgot about that advantage. I'm not at war with the US (didn't DOW them, destroyed Great Britain and in the meantime defeated Soviet Union).

Hm. Thank you for the Report. AI always performs differently. I will see if the AI is somehow broken.

@JJMerrill I just attempted Barbarossa starting June 1 41. I saw your screenshot and noticed the three huge encirclements you had acheived. What was the date when you were able to wipe up these pockets? That strategy has never really worked for me because it takes so long to wipe them up and continue the offensive before winter comes and the Soviets spam about 200 Divs. I took a different strategy and dispersed my armour throughout the line and tried to overrun the Soviets while they were retreating. I only had about 20 Armour plus SS and the rest were all INF. The motorized suck up so much oil and are so expensive I rarley build them. I probably overran about 100 divs before I reached moscow in November, then i ran out of steam. By mid december the Soviets were pushing me back on all fronts and basically started doing to me what I just did to them. I just can't figure how to build my army up in time to withstand that first counter attack.

@MUNCIE II I actually failed the campaign in that screenshot and had to give it another shot - I ran out of oil in November and the entire eastern front collapsed. I used the same encirclement strategy but this time cleaned up the pockets around Romania immediately, focusing most of my INF firepower there. I then moved all of those forces north to clean up Belarus from the south, making sure to occupy the horrible swamp provinces in the east first so enormous Soviet stacks couldn't retreat there. The main difference between this and my first failed attempt was constant pressure even from my smaller garrisoning stacks and better management of oil, which allowed me to clean up the encirclements before fall.

The Belarus pocket was cleaned out around mid-August which gave me about one more month of decent weather to keep pushing. I let my forces have a break of a week or so while the strategic redeployments from the Belarus clean-up were getting into position all along the front with a focus on moving up to Leningrad. After this, I began the last summer offensive and kept advancing on all fronts even throughout the winter, not giving the Soviets time to regain ORG and reinforce. I remember casualties around a little over 10,000,000 men alone by the end of August for certain, and the Soviets capitulated in the spring of 1942, failing to recover from the initial shock. Definitely one of the most intense Barbarossa experiences I've played. My best practical advice is make heavy use of giving your units offensive supply and having the maximum stockpile of oil possible before the invasion, best achieved by stockpiling it from the start of the game and researching oil conversion techs ahead of time. I build my ARM and MOT at a ratio of about 3:1 and do not use any air force or navy until after the USSR is defeated. Save the Offensive Chit decision for this moment as well and give your units a few days to hit the max ORG cap before you launch the invasion, then use that month to achieve your desired encirclements while constantly applying pressure wherever you seen an opportunity.

@man0lo My exact story as well. I can only hope PDX watches these forums and sees the dedicated community that Darkest Hour has.
Unfortunately most of the players are not that big fans of deep Grand Strategy games. So I consider that HOI IV is made to be appoachable to a bigger number of them! The result justified this Developers's decision if you see how much more popularity HOI IV has gained in comparison with its predecessors.
While HOI III is over complicated and HOI IV is over simplified ...Darkest hour has the balance...
My main complain of HOI IV is that the player hasnt any particular role during battles. You just give 150 divisions to a field marshall ...you draw a battle plan ..and thats it. The good fact is that HOI IV is under continuously development...So I believe in a couple of years from now will be a way better game.

@JJMerrill I have more questions for you
-When you say that you build ARM and MOT in a 3 : 1 ratio you mean that in a whole army of 300 units, 100 are ARM/MOT? Or you were saying that you build, as an example,30 ARM and 10 MOT?
-What is your advice about the INF brigades? Usually I produce INF + Art bgt and do later Eng bgt (or some medium tank) to attach at my starting forces or at the units got with the Wehrmacht Event in order to have faster Army-korps to follow faster my mobile units. And more, what's your idea regarding the use of 2 attachements or only one?
- I never build special forces nut I use the 1918 Inf to upgrade them in Mar-Par-Mount using the spare IC hwen available. It's a bad and inefficient idea?
-I've a dispute with a friend of mine regarding the river crossig bounus give by engineers. I think that in an army-korps of 3 DIvision, all of them need to be eng-brigaded to get the bonus, my friend says not, only one need to be brigaded. I 've tried to search the forums but I didn't find a clear answer.

sorry for my terrible english
Bye

@Melchisedek

- I build 3 ARM for every 1 MOT (on average) so your example of 30 ARM and 10 MOT would be accurate. I always build units in groups of 3 divisions to merge into a single corps.
- I generally find brigades on INF to not be worth the IC cost, at least during their initial production. The value of producing more individual divisions generally seems to be of higher utility than investing IC into brigades. I then produce brigades individually (ART and AA mostly) and assign them to the units on the front that need extra help. I've never ran divisions with 2 brigades at once.
- I build fresh MTN and MAR units when I need them but I see no problem with using the upgrade paths as well, just be conscious of very high upgrade costs/time with authoritarian states.
- Not sure about the engineer question and I honestly haven't ever tested it, but all of my spearhead forces (ARM/MOT) receive an engineer brigade even if just for a bit of flavor. I'm honestly not sure how effective they truly are, it just "feels" right. Testing it wouldn't be difficult.

@JJMerrill Thank you again for the help
I want to start a fresh game following a bit more your suggestion. So just as a curiosity, Do you know if there's any difference in the chain events regarding the spanish war experience if you choose to envoy volunteers and materials to Franco without take the control of nationalist army? I know thw SCW will take longer but I would like to avoid to manage that boring war again

Cheers

@Melchisedek I don't believe there is any difference at all in the event chains if you choose to take control of Nationalist Spain. It strikes me as a way to give the player a chance to warm up with combat and pass the time before the major war breaks out. I will sometimes take control of their forces but usually let the AI take care of itself.

There is no change in the event chain if you choose to sit back and just watching the AI fighting the Republics. Actually it is better to have a long spanish civil war as the event experience from civil war is a persistent event, occuring again and again with different outcomes as long SPR exists.

@Dina1954 The best solution would be to open this folder directory and then extract the mod directly into it. I'm not as familiar with Windows 10 but the file structure should be more or less the same:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Darkest Hour A HOI Game\Mods

Then you can launch Darkest Hour from Steam or directly from "Darkest Hour Launcher.exe" located here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Darkest Hour A HOI Game
