@MacDunne Appreciate the feedback. I wish Darkest Hour could model things like chemical warfare, but I don't think any mechanic really does. I might need to adjust supply distance modifier or supply cap to actually make the attrition modifier come into effect.
Can you explain me quick the main advantages of the Generalplan Ost in Edge of Darkness ? Do you get cored Provinces & IC in the east provinces after a while?

Thanks, i'm now in the Year 1939, starting to Blitzkrieg Poland lol. Edit : Game is working fine now, exept for France which declared war on me several times in May 1939 for no Reason, i had to use the Cheat "acceptall" to sign a non aggression pact with France which would probably automaticly removed when i trigger Danzig or War (War Declaration on Poland). That's the only Issue i found out, btw it would be awesome if you would create the SS Division "Heimwehr Danzig" after you annexed Danzig after the Event "Danzig or War" , it was historically created in 1939 and resolved in 1940 because all of the Soldiers were transferred to the SS "Totenkopf" Division, it's just a tip you know. Also PLEASE buff the Wehrmacht and SS Bonus Events to a much higher size, like you give the Wehrmacht 5% Boni instead of 1% and the SS 15% ( Would be Historically accurate because the SS were the elite of the elite) so that every SS Division gets very important ( would be Historically accurate too) you know, but besides that the Mod is very well made, i give it a 8 out of 10.

The Generalplan Ost event chains gradually give cores and eventually incorporation of settlement zones in the Reichskommisarriat administrative divisions after a successful Operation Barbarossa. They're intended to give the player an additional level of challenge (by giving IC/resource penalties) and sense of "what if" alternate history.

Thank you for your report. To avoid any early war declaration, you need to have at least 9 divisions in every province adjacent to France. Moreover, you need to disable: Democratic states can declare war in the game settings before starting the game. This will 100% solve the problem.

Of course. I know about SS Heimwehr Danzig. However, this unit was only consisting of 1500 men. This is too small to represent it in a game like Darkest Hour; this might be possible in HoI3 - but not here.

SS units (except of Waffen SS) are better than normal divisons; they tend to have higher morale, organization and also fight better in certain terrain. The SS Junkerschule event only compensates for the Prussian Esprit event, which boosts german 'normal' divisions. Giving boni can lead to gamebreaking situation and therefore this was reduced to an absolute minimum. You have to see this event more as an reward event.

I have never experienced such an issue in my testing games, I therefore suppose that your version is corrupted. Maybe another download could solve this problem.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It seems to work on and off. Depending on whether I'm moving around the map and how recently I've loaded the game, increases the likelihood of a CTD. But it is avoidable to some degree. After I finish this play-through, I'll try re-downloading to see if that helps.

Maybe you could do it like the Leibstandarte with reducing it's strength to 3.900 Men or 1.500 Men you know, also i know how to edit the misc data but please change also the xp loss for reinforces, it just destroys every SS-Division, besides that i attacked the Soviet Union , its going not bad but they are just spamming bombers and cas which is really messed up, but i somehow go foward to Moscow. I would appreciate a new version (patch) with some bug fixes ( my savegames are broken so that i have DH always open on my computer) , the xp loss modifier and the Prussian esprit Event, it's not gamebraking, it would represent the real german warmachine of that time :) . By the way, if you are planning on adding some events for turkey, i could help you with the names, facts, pictures etc.

i dont if its been said before, but in operation Babarossa, the "Negotiatens with japan" Decision can only be triggered IF Nanjing and Manila are owned by Japan directly. In my game both, china and the Philipines have already surrendered to Japan and have therefore control over these cities. I think it would fixed by changing it to "is owned by Japan OR is owned by Republic China-Nanjing / is owned by the puppeted Philipines" or sometghing like that

Thank you for your feedback. Nevertheless I think having the SS Heimwehr Danzig in the game would open the casket of pandora. If I would introduce the unit in the game, I would need to also integrate the other Totenkopf Verbände and this would be too much micromanagement for a game like Darkest Hour. The provinces are too big to simulate such small forces; and having them as brigade (I've done this for Brandenburger and other special units) makes no sense either. In previous EoD versions you were even able to build frogmen; trust me that's just too much micromanagement for such a game. Therefore SS Heimwehr Danzig won't be included in Edge of Darkness until, I find a better way to integrate them.

XP Loss can be easily reduced. Just open the misc file, search for experience and adapt the modifier accordingly.

I think that's pretty good simulated already; as you won't experience any troubles until winter '41. It's a piece of cake to crush France and also the initial soviet divisions. We really avoid to give any huge boni to units as this can have serious effects on the whole game and achieving a good balancing is maybe the most difficult thing to mod in Darkest Hour. You can't even imagine how many hours were spent to imprve sino-japanese theater and it still is not working perfecty. If you want you can again modify the events accordingly; just open d/additional_events and search for the event, you will find out that it is not difficult at all to modify the events.

Thank you for your report. This is obviously a bug and will be fixed in an update (however I am not sure when this is going to happen)

Ok, thanks, but do you know why my savegames are not working? If i click on them it opens but like 1-2 seconds after that the Game closes itself, its really silly.


EDIT : I can't seem to find the exp. modifier in the Misc data.

@ Hirz Hello again I have started a new game and have two bugs to report .Scharnhorst events give me a battleship VII instead of battlecruiser.When I save the game in June 1938 before activating the treaty of Munich Hjalmar Schacht disipear and I got Rudolf Hess instead as armaments minister. Everything else work fine so far keep on with your good work.

The july 20th plot fired in 1941 just as I encircled 100 Soviet Divisions. I'm not sure what triggered it..the brits had landed and taken over most of the netherlands? Is it just a codding errror?

Do i have to reinforce my 5percent units before pressing the danzig or war decision? OR do i press WAR then press partial mobilazation? Whats the proper way of getting this to work. Also how does ww2 starts if poland join pact of steel?

I tend to enact partial mobilazation just before the treaty of munich.. since that's a -10% dissent decision.. no idea if that's the best way though. Maybe it's the second vienna award thats -10? I forget..

whats the surender req for UK?
I'm pretty sure they have to have under either 75 or 50 IC, and they have to have lost Gibraltar, Suez, Malta, Cyprus, and have under 250 convoy transports.

Understand that there isn't really a "trigger". Every requirement you fulfill adds to the percentage, per month, that the UK will surrender.

I could be completely wrong, this is just the conditions I've known about in other mods I've played.

You'll generally only want to use the mobilization decisions after war has been declared, or you will suffer a large dissent penalty. As for Poland joining the Pact of Steel, I haven't tinkered with this too much, but I believe that you are more or less free to declare war on the USSR anytime you want and go from there. I have set special conditions in the Bitter Peace event for Poland to receive their fair share if this does happen, but it's untested - in good faith I can't say you won't run into bugs if you take this route. I'd like to get back into modding sometime this summer, but it depends on how things pan out in the next few months in my personal life. Thanks for your interest and questions!

Here are the specific conditions for a conventional surrender of the United Kingdom, playing as Germany. Note that this is only slightly changed from vanilla Darkest Hour. You'll need to control all of the England region and southern Scotland. For the time being, the other surrender conditions (nuke and "conventional" surrender, which didn't work in vanilla DH anyway) have been removed to prevent conflict with the custom EoD surrender events. You will have to invade England via amphibious assault to trigger a surrender.

Here is the event taken from "UK.txt" in the events folder, note the section highlighted in yellow for the conditions required for a surrender to Germany. The special surrender events that trigger beginning with event #1000900 can be found in "Generalplan Ost.txt" also located in the events folder:

Well, I won't deny that I am a very min-max oriented player and accept that in terms of pure IC value, air force is just not worth it in Darkest Hour, so I don't build one at all. I only build a navy until after the war starts and even then it's submarine stacks. I wish the air force mechanics required the player to at least build them defensively, but the game just doesn't work that way. In reality, I should suffer huge IC destruction from strategic bombing and combat penalties without air cover.

As for IC, I usually build nothing but IC up until the Anschluss and then start pumping out INF, MOT and ARM. Make sure to take the conscription decisions ASAP and move toward Hawk Lobby as this will reduce your factory building times. There's a screenshot that I posted several pages back that shows somewhere around 400 or so IC by the time war breaks out in 1939.

Any suggestions of IC building as Germany. I feel helplessly unable to build a good airforce and even small navy before the war breaks out. @JJMerrill

During the 1934-37 u make only IC and some submarines and probably couple of early DD for transport escort. make em around berlin probably 2-3 factories each province. Once 4 year plan desicsion happen (goering at chief of air) choose luftwaffe and make 1 series of each airplane and will last you until the end of war. You will havea small airforce via pop up but thats all you need at the start.

You will need a medium airforce around 4x2 inf,cas,tac and 3 transport planes to invade britain (not acounting for plan Z ships) around 1940s and early41 (i tried invading Cardiff, then 2 days later bristol was empty so I send my paras there then diverted 2nd and 3rd wave of ships to bristol landing my army) I then use my offensive chit on that and some good generals to rush north and london mite take couple of months especially mountains in scotland dont be afraid to ship in mountaineers too
