Ok, couldn't resist. I started as Ottomans, using the first 20 years to conquer lands (including Armenia and its gold, plus Thrace, for the trade center).

I had a few BB wars which I ended as soon as I could. Then I turned peaceful, building a powerful army, plus a navy to keep my maintenance costs high. Revolts were not too many, only three provinces regularly. The conquered provinces all were converted by missionaries. I managed to hold out till September 1614.

Then I suffered my second Civil War, my last army (24k, of an original 300k+) defected to the rebels, and Albania dow'ed me. So I called it a day.

This is my inflation:

Actually, I decided to keep the game running - I'm down to 6 provinces, but the revolters always manage to overthrow my government, so that no more provinces defect.

In 1668, I am at over 65,000 %. :D

I'll keep this running till it's either 1819 or the Ottomans are no more.

Wrong!

I started an Aztec game...muah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

I'm praying that I don't get another civil war since I've crossed that danger threashhold where even with the Aztc optimum DP settings no longer allow me to but any infatry. I'm now devoting myself to reversing my DP settings for max morale to survive further reblions...it should only take 200 years to get to max quality and max free. :) I'll post the results when I get there...

And a new record has been established, although I think I could get it even higher if I could be bothered to try...that last 300 years is a bit like watching paint dry.

Note the exciting cost of infatry, cavalry, etc. The last time I could buy any was waaaaaay back in the late 15thC.

And here's the final inflation screenie...and of course a save game is available for anyone who doubts...

That u chose them is a bit of a...oddity to me, IMO the greatest thing that pulls money from ur coffers is the navy, that u dont lose to silly rebellions, all u need is a port! :)

Well, as I say I think I can actually get an even higher inflation than that. I considered a number of possible countries and decided on the Aztecs for a number of reasons.

1. Gold....those gold mines added about 2% to my annual inflation wjich counter-balanced the fact that it took me longer to get into the monthly bankruptcy spiral

2. Room to colonise. Obviously the more provinces you have with your own culture, the fewer provinces you have revolting and the more manpower and troops you can draw in the early game.

3. I wanted at least 15-20 provinces with no revolt risk by the time I could no longer afford to buy infantry. I intended to build troops in every single province up to max and knew that this would easily be enough to keep me in the montly bankruptcy cycle. These troops would be all I would have to survive the last 300 years with so I needed as many as I could possibly get before I hit that point.

4. I wanted more religious tollerance flexibility.

5. I wanted to avoid BB wars and such, so staying "hidden" for the first 80-90 years when it was high (I crosssed 35 briefly) seemed like a good idea.

6. I wanted to give the fewest number of countries "access" to me since war exhaustion was a major issue the first time around.

7. I wanted a country with the "right" starting DP settings to allow maximum number of troops, least war exhaustion, least liklihood of rebelion, etc. A "native" type country was pertty much ideal for that.

I'll make my next attempt with the Ottomans again. At the beginning you get mightily good leaders that help put down any rebellions, which gives you time to adjust your sliders into a more favorable position. What eventually stopped me short were foreign wars. In my next attempt, I'll make sure that AI aggressiveness is lower. :D

Too bad I only have enough time for such experiments on weekends. :(

Cheater! Must be on very hard/furious in order to count! :D

C-Rex: You're right. The maximum possible rate of annual inflation growth is 301% unless you have gold mines. Also there's no way the upper limit would be x 401 since I do not believe that it's possible to go bankrupt every single month starting right from 1419. It usually takes at least 10 years to achieve a guaranteed monthly 25%...and if course there is also the possibility of those nasty deflation random events (I never thought I would ever refer to a deflation event as "nasty" :D).

What about silver, would that substantially increase the inflation of a country as well? :D
That would be like Argentina, or something. The land of the silver and crap loads of modern-day inflations.
