Yeah...I seem to be getting my second wind, although part of it is probably because I've shifted to a much slower beer consumption rate so I'm more sipping than chugging now. As a result I'm regaining my equilibrium somehwat, although I've almost finished a case since I started.

The country is in flamse and it's all I can do to keep about 5 or 6 provinces in my hands. I have now reached the point where bankruptcy is monthly. Strange, but I don't recall Peter mentioning that in his WCfD, but I'm sure everything will turn out alright because I'm following instructions closely. I also forget where in his AAR he mentioned that mercenaries cost almost 2000d (so I cant' afford them). I can still recruit (barely) 1 cav and 1 inf for 1000d, thouhg.

I think the rebels are going to do it.

1444 saw half my nation defect from me and several rebelions spring up ot wipe out most of my armies. More provinces are sure to go in the next year...

Yup. Dissaster!

Defections galore as half of the Empire decides it hates my frugal budgeting. While I still have about 40k left in the army (from its one-time height of about 400k) I am losing more to rebels than I can replce. In another few banruptcies I will no lomger be able to afford 1 cav and 1 inf any long and will have to choose.

Well I can now give the secnd half of the 1440's since the rebels are having thier way with me almost at will. Only 3 provinces remain adn a scant 25k army which is unable to defeat most rebels.... The end is so close I can smell it....really being smply a function of when the cost of an finfantry exceeds 1000d (or when someone's smart enough to DOW me.

I'll play a few more years to see how far I make it, but as of January 1st, 1450 the price of been is not a whopping 5261% more than it was only 31 years ago.

That took slightly longer than I thought, but....

I'm calling it quits because:

1 - I have onlu 17,000 cavalry left to my name
2 - Infantry now costs over 1000d
3 - Thus I can never earn or borrow enough to built one

The final tally on the price of beer compared to its January 1419 price:

1 2 4 8 0 %​

Believe it or not, I was #1 in VP

Here's the price of land troops these days...

I believe Carolus managed about 2000% with Genoa in EU1...or that's what he told me this morning via IPC. I was wondering how hard it would be to beat....


It was the rebels that killed me, incidentally, not a regular enemy.

NokalaiII: I think I brushed up on 34 but never could make it to 35 so the BB wars never came. I started losing provinces to defection or new countries forming so that dropped it down quite badly. If Venice had given me that peace a month or two earlier I might have been able to trigger them. Too bad too...although I might not have ended up lasting as long as I did against the rebels in the end.

I think that if I completely disbanded the fleet, and kept about 1000 troops I might be able to balance the budget...but of course I'd be toast when the next rebelion came along.

Bismarck: Notice how those rascally Cyrian rebels managed to free themselves. I'm sure that made you happy.

MrT, you need to reread World Conquest for Dummies. I think there are a few of the subtleties of the inflationary low tech approach to World Conquest that you managed to overlook

(Such as inflation being a means to an end, and not an end in itself)
Anyhow, has anybody heard from Rictus lately? He went strangely quiet. Hope his liver didn't give up.
