Ever looked at an avian and thought, 'I bet that tastes great'? I have. Which is where I got the idea for a new policy: eating xenos.

It may be available only for xenophobic species with its ramifications being the hatred of the target species and the xenophilic galactic community for eating a sentient species.

On a mechanical level, it would provide one food for every enslaved alien pop. Possibly with extra buildings to increase this:

Hunting Lodge: Still provides only one food but adds happiness to xenophobic pops on the planet.
Battery Farm: Provides an extra two or three food from the enslaved aliens.

I believe such an addition would add great role-play value to some of the more vicious empires: those who view other species as no less than base animals.

Let me know what you think.

As it is, I don't think eating aliens is even possible, since bodies are evolved to eat certain kinds of food, all of which come off their home planet, though at the same time I don't know how they feed colonists without major invasive species problems.

On top of that, I don't see how viable it is to eat intelligent xenos. I could imagine hunting unintelligent xenos since you can farm them as livestock, but intelligent xenos will naturally defend themselves through civilized means (like armed revolution) to do a basic natural instinct: survive to not be eaten.

I've thought about this at length ages ago about what if extremely advanced aliens came to us only to use us as a food source, but I came to the conclusion that it would be more hassle than worth trying to set us up like we do with Chickens, Pigs or Cows because we'd rebel or wouldn't willingly let ourselves become a food source and would make it a very costly investment for them to control us for food, so it would leave them two options:

A) They give most humans a choice, they get to move onto a planet made exclusively for Human ranching, where they breed us and at the end of our time, we get chopped up and served as food, but you get to live in a paradise and they genetically modify us to live longer and younger.

B) They knock us out and put us in pods like it's done in the Matrix.

Hmm, some good points raised so far and I'm too lazy to respond to all individually. Both main points raised have been the lack of food it would provide and the aliens' unwillingness to be eaten. These work hand in hand, where the more aliens are available to eat (Billions on the home planet) the harder it would be to eat them without revolt.

Perhaps a revolt risk associated would be necessary.

However, it seems a short step from accepting being enslaved to a few thousand being taken to eat. Maybe it would take a few generations to implement, where the young are separated from the knowledge base of the species to be made more docile.

Hmm, I'm starting to feel a little concerned for my mental well being after considering the best way to destroy a species will to fight...

I'm already planning something like this for my planned Slaver Spiders empire, but its just roleplay. I'm not sure there is a need to have it mechanically represented, but yeah sure, this would work great for a future patch or mod.

I would not mind eating other species all the same as a xenomorph-isque alien species just for fun!

Sounds neat. Could also come with some nasty diplomatical problems. Like the empire, who's main race is being eaten would barely have to pay any warescore cost to invade planets were their species is held like caddle. Additionally it could make the "liberate planet" wargoal cheaper on the planets were major atrocities are happening like this.

This could also lead to some hilarious ck2-like stories.
"Fortunatly the enemy-empire consisted of babaric monsters that decided to eat our people, meaning we were able to demand 5 planets in the war instead of 4. Success!
