Hi folks. I am a tiny modder, I try and enjoy to mod the game. I m here to propose this struggle I did this week for devs and maybe future modders
Main problem for me with vanilla is ERE too powerfull and never in a struggle in its 3 fronts.
Struggle regions are Italy, balkans, asia minor, middle east, mesopotamia and egypt. I was sceptic but gameplay improves a lot. It's really fun in particular in the first bookmark
You can call it "Roman Struggle". Included only christian and islam religion in order to make pagans uninvolved .I choose only Balkans italian greek turkic armenian georgian and middle east cultures.
Which are the problem of this struggle?
1) Devs in clash casus belli dont consider sea. So Normans dont have a clash casus belli vs ERE over Adriatic Sea which was one of my goal. This idea improves only gameplay in south of italy but my dream to conquer costantinople in few years from Apulia it's over
2) HRE boss in germany isnt involved in tthe struggle. it's good but normans cant declare war and struggle is a little bit empty there if northern italy doesnt rebel.
3) Persian empire or seljiuk arent involved in struggle (because of capital.) So byzantium can declare holy wars on them but not the opposite.
Which are the good things?
1) Historical accurate definition of northern italy struggle (in each bookmark) and uninvolved HRE german boss.
2) make south of italy struggle between islam and christianity long and interesting.
3) ERE is costantly at war in each border
4) in the case of a won crusade you have istantly a struggle with other rulers in the region. And if the winner is uninvolved, it's even more accurate.
5) Most important, Game IS Fun. you can do what you want. You can in Italy choose metropolitan as obvious. You can abducat befriend foment, you have the entire game without pointless tree system
Holy wars: yes or nah?
I tried without holy wars in the struggle. For the south of italy it's good but it's not the best in the second bookmark where there 3 big empires doing nothing. In the first one it's really nice to see Armenia and georgia being strong and fight. Contested balkans. So I guess in this version holy wars in the hostility phase should be defined.
The struggle help also to make the historical alliances and relations between italian powers, ere and islam.
Problem: which ending decision? I guess something in which you can at the end mend the schism, form the roman empire and destroy the papacy.
Here modders with a lot of time or devs can find thousands of events from history to describe what they want from "send to outremer" a single charachter to crusades improving to the catholics vs orthodox struggle .
I m not going to publish my test mod because it's really time consuming to create graphics, ending decisions, events and so on for an area so large and important. And make in compatible with other mods and spanish struggle. I cant. In my file I have just modified spanish struggle and adapted. My publish mods are really simple
I hope i am helpful with this thread and to buy next year a DLC called "Struggle for Constantinople "
