Could someone elucidate the Latin vs. Eastern mechanism? In know what the trait is, but how is it decided which trait a bishop gets? I currently am polish, and seems like my bishops get it kinda randomly. I know that it may be because I'm on the border, since in the west it's 100% latin and east it's eastern.

Also, during the schism, is it that provinces with a bishop with latin become catholic and a bishop with eastern becomes orthodox? Can the liege influence this? For example, a random county in Scotland was orthodox after the schism. What could have happened there?

Not sure as to what decides the rites a bishop follows, but I do know that when the Schism occurs, all feudal and republic vassals will follow their liege's wishes as to which side of the coin they land on. However, bishops follow their rites, so if you have a greek rites bishop in Spain, he'll go orthodox even though everyone around him isn't. If this happens to a count or higher tier bishop, they'll convert the province(s) they own to their religion too, which is why you can get weird blobs of orthodox in catholic areas, or vice verca.

Basically, an event triggers for all theocratic rulers that have neither of the rite traits, which results in them picking one of the traits based on, among other things; their culture group, their liege's rite trait, their religious head's rite trait.
