I admittedly don’t read much of the unit descriptions...

Mostly because I play on console and it can get difficult to read them on my smallish TV.

But I took a bit of time to read the description for the green hopperhounds. It refers to a farming community called “Sundew Valley” that falls victim to a hopperhound that was awoken from a hill.

I thought it was a nice little reference to Stardew Valley. Any one else find some similar gems while playing through Planetfall?

Well. the name Mah'reg Nib is an easter egg too. :) You will find it in a lot of unit descriptions!

It's an anagram of Ham Binger, a Halfling adventurer, who did a lot of the anecdotes in the Age of Wonders 3 unit descriptions.

And was also a character in the previous games.

In AoW1 he was a playable hero you could recruit.

His back story, iirc, is that he sold the Isle of Aldor to Elves for a single kiss from the then child Queen Julia, which made him immortal.

Also, he's the alter ego of the first game's writer, who did the writing for the next games too I believe, a certain Raymond Bingham.

Dire Penguins are an Easter egg, because they were in the first game, as a bit of a joke, but they've gotten progressively more demonic. :)

Ah, I didn't know he was in the games as far back as AoW1! Interesting. Guess being immortal explains why he is still around in Planetfall. I did know he was a writer who is still working on the game.
I think in AoW 1-2 Dire Penguins were Frostling units, no? They only became indeed more of a joke later.

Was watching a “let’s play” on YouTube (Shout out to RogueRifler) and when he first met with a Dvar commander, the greeting had something along the lines of “don’t undermine our efforts” in it.

The streamer then went on to say “wink-wink, nudge-nudge” and this made me realize that this could potentially be an Easter Egg possibly referencing the “Underminer” super villain from The Incredibles.

He does share some similarities to the Dvar race.

Oh right the Inioch I already forgot about that again. A marvelous masterpiece of an easter egg :D

Since I’m new to the series, I would never have picked up on that, so it’s nice that others can share what they recognize, which allows me to look it up...

I did notice that on the description for the Chelus Spawns, there is a scene where the person yells “Shoot her! Shoot her!” Which might be referencing the opening scene of the Jurassic Park film...

Here is a timeline full of lore of the previous games, AoW series. More than anything you will get references like the I.N.I.O.C.H. and Mah'reg Nib. As far as i know there isn't that much connections between the two games series, yet ;)
