Looking for a streamer that actually makes solid decisions while playing this game with the early release/post-beta copy.

I've seen Cohh and Bombadil and they both drive me nuts for different reasons. I just want to get my fix of Battletech before it releases without screaming at my computer.

Thanks for any links/suggestions

After his total failure to pay attention to the mission in the "Destroy the turret generator" 2 mission of the game, I just can't watch him more. At least not now.

If he screwed up because he didn't know something, sure. But he doesn't even read the mission, or try to understand the goal.

I guess for me it's this difference: Making mistakes out of ignorance vs. making mistakes out of WILLFUL ignorance.

Actually I think they said they were fixing the 2nd mission because the mission brief told him with the zooming dialog that where the corp tower is right now is where the turret gen is suppose to be. So that whole dialog brief was backwards and missed up. So can't say willful ignorance when the game it self was wrong.

Mission in build of the game he has is bugged. It pans to wrong location on map as destination of objective.

Dev was working on those bugs as Cohh were streaming them.

There was a bug in that the mission description directed your attention to the wrong areas.

When it was talking about the turret generator, it went to the beta platform area which is the wrong place to go for the first part of the Magistry Metals mission. And then he got caught up in trying to take out all the turrets one by one instead of being able to take out the generator.

It was a newbie mistake that a few people will make until they learn what they really need to do.

And yet, he realised this mission related bug before any weapons had been fired and still split his lance and marched into the turrets with half of them instead of backtracking and sticking together.

You can't blame his decision on the bug entirely. He still chose to engage the turrets while knowing (or being able to know, as the objective was on screen the entire time) that there was a generator that when destroyed would cause them all to lose power.

It's kinda easy to nit-pick on every detail on a live-stream. Doing it live gives you no chance to go back and cut out scenes etc. Plus, what to expect from someone who hasn't played BT before? Honestly, the learning curve that Cohh displays is remarkable. Not only that. A turn-based game isn't necessarily interesting to watch. He's the only one so far who managed to not make this game look boring by maintaining a good balance between revealing information, playing the game and engaging with the audience.

I like watching Cohh because I like that he isn't familiar with the game. To me, that is part of the fun.

Watching him play the way he does, and then getting those..."ah Ha!" moments when things click is part of the fun. Plus, I can see what he is doing that works and what doesn't work, so I will play better when I get my hands on the game.

Not to mention, he isn't a hardcore BattleTech fan, but a casual fan and therefore isn't up to speed on a lot of the details. To me, that gives me a window into how other people will perceive the game when they play.

If his reactions are any indication, it looks like the game should have far reaching appeal outside of our core fandom. That gets me excited because it means "In Success" is much more likely...and who wouldn't want more BattleTech :)

I agree with the OP that the first stream from Cohh was painful to watch, but part of that was because I had watched the preview streams and knew where you were supposed to go to take out the generator, so I can totally understand his confusion on that part. Based on the comments in this thread though, I will have to go back to watch some more of his BT play to see how he grows into the game.

That is definitely something that we (long time BT players) need to be conscious of (and I failed at it in my pre-judgement of Cohh), we KNOW what the mech capabilities are...so when someone makes an innocent mistake (like referring to mech by an incorrect weight class or designation), we shouldn't jump on them. Similarly, those of us that have been rabid backers of the project, sucking in every dev stream and update like it's the lifeblood of the universe, need to remember that not everyone that backed the project is like that. Some people deliberately stayed away from updates and dev streams in order to make the experience feel "like new".

Now, I'm off to catch up on Cohh's BattleTech streams...

Watching Bombadil constantly jump a PPC-wielding mech into knife fighting range or move to where terrain is degrading his LOS and then wondering why his to-hit chances are so low, interspersed with long pauses while he checks his phone/email/sends Skype messages, Cohh is starting to look pretty good to be honest.

Just found NoGutsNoGalaxyTV
Started April 3rd- too early into his video to offer opinion on quality.

Just sit back and enjoy watching how the game plays and looks like. Then start going back through the stream to see the detail and sheer depth they have put into this game.

The Bombadil stream is fine, but it is kind of tiring watch him dive into 0.5 skull missions over and over. There's just zero challenge.
I try to look at it as extra exposure. Cohh may have covered 99% of the same ground, but Bombadil is filling in the remainder. So we end up seeing the variety of maps, and variety of missions at 0.5 skulls. He ran into a couple of fully armored vehicles, and we got to see how much more effort it takes to kill them than the pre-damaged ones. He is also working the local planet hard for missions before moving on, which is what I plan to do. It illustrates what that gameplay style will look like.

That's fair. I think it's just the combination of his extremely careful playstyle coupled with the fact that the missions themselves offer very little threat. Kinda puts a damper on the entertainment value for me.

That will be another lesson taught: the difference between him blasting through 0.5 skull missions, and at what point he can no longer do that. I would guess 1.5 skulls. Maybe 2.0.

His first encounters with Demolishers and SRM Carriers was some of the most entertaining things I have seen.

"Look at the Demolisher's equipment? Yeah I think I saw at least a AC something..."

Just plain fun.
