Is there any point to take exploration as first idea for The Hansa? Or do you need to annex an irish minor or something to have enough colonial range and for it to be of any use as first idea group in 1.8.1?
Either with Iceland or Connaught, you should be able to colonise North America with tech 7 and 3 ideas. Alternatively, you can snipe a Portuguese colony in Cape Verde early on and get access to Brazil much earlier. This is the fastest you can colonise as the Hansa as far as I can tell.Is there any point to take exploration as first idea for The Hansa? Not sure if it's just me, but it feels like the colonial range to North America has been increased. Playing as England with the province of Connaught cored I could reach The Caribbean earlier than I could reach North America. Perhaps they changed this to encourage the AI to colonise The Caribbean and thus make it less likely to see Castile/Portugal in Canada.
If you want to do it without no cb you can declare on Denmark pulling in Norway and take Iceland. For some reason Iceland is considered a bit further away than Ireland but you can still get Newfoundland or Greenland at tech 7 I believe.
First, Single or Multiplayer?
Single:
Tactic 1.)
Exploration first pick, than province hopping to portugal. Use your light ships to create "trade war" against britanny, take 1 province from britanny, core it. Use "trade war" against portugal, knock portugal out. after second slot in exploration, go to america. Use your starting first colonist to feed two provinces, one in america, one in africa.
In america, concentrate on the trade bonus provinces in 13th and canada, and hudson...only 1 province there is enough, with trading post, you can boost north sea with 4 "american provinces" from 3-4ducats income up to 20 ducats income.
Tactic 2.) (Pluto first)
Exploration second pick...do normal lübeck blobbing, in your fist dansk war, take two provinces from norway to reach iceland. dip7/slot3, colo america.
Tactic 3.) (Pluto first)
Exploration second pick...do english channel blobbing, do with ligh ships a "trade war" against scotland, take ireland, scotland...etc. blob into england, after england in rest of burgundy...
Multiplayer:
There is only one good tactic..Tactic 2 from Single...
Eat all of dansk, eat scandinavia, use iceland to blob into america...take your norway icelands early as possible, so that england do not get them...if possible, avoid iceland, "to eye candy", take the shetland icelands. Norway and hansa have simalary colors, high chance that other humans do not see your goal.
Eat dansk!!!! ignore HRE, to much AE, eat dansk...than sweden...than HRE....
I took Expansion first, then Exploration, then Quantity (for the extra colonist policy). Once I got the 50% range bonus from Exploration, I established five colonies in Canada at once. I was still ahead of Portugal and Spain.
why did you take Expansion as first idea?
Because I wouldn't have reached anything despite Exploration's 50% bonus range without Dip 7 anyway, so I thought it was a good idea to prepare as much as possible. And it has turned out very well.![]()
I did the same with my current Milan into north america run.
3 colonists early. + 20 global settler increase from the policy, and you're set to own the new world.
I even picked up quantity for my 3rd group to get the extra colonist and another +10 growth.
Sniping cape verde off portugal when they where at war with castille by declaring on aragon.
You'll probably need to generate a trade conflict cb instead, but that shouldn't be too hard.
