i know it is traditionit start in 36, but i will love earlier start, in 35 it will be ok, since one of my wanted things is to help ethipia to defeat itals.
but i think even earlier starts like in 33/34 show nice posibilities - especialy to watch rise of hitlers power. And how you will deal with economy crissis.
even erlier start date ? yeah i will love it even more, especialy that ones just after end of great war, lot of interesings hapened in 18-22. but i think that will be think for dlc.

I am more than sure one from Paradox clearly states that the raise of Hitler would be forced to be an entirely different game because the game would then be forcing you to have more diplomacy within your country, which once more would make a complete different game and not HoI4 which they are going for.

I think it was Podcat who said they would have had to name a game that starts much before "Raise of Hitler" or something alike those lines. And sorry Master Podcat-sama if I am not right about this.

The Devs stated a long time ago that pretty much any date before 1936 will be less WW2 and more "Rise of the Nazis" a topic Paradox strongly refrains from.

There will definitely be some mod that pushes it back, and I bet you that you can easily mod it to 1933.

well, they can allways make rise of hitler in just events, without actualy modifing game. so nothing prevets them from earlier start date if they wish.
and basicaly, hitler was in power after 33, so not realy need big modifiacin to internal politicks of state.

Well it is not true that only germany or austria were interesting at the time of 1930ties. Hmmm with economic crisis and rebuilding many countries could have gone with drastically different paths. For example USA, USSR, Czechoslovakia, UK, China ( both Nat and Com ) etc. It would definitely make the game less historically accurate but more interesting from replayabillity point of view. Hearts of Iron franchise is aiming for giving us fun by experiencing historic and ahistoric possibilities tied to the era. I do not see any problem with extending the period. Hitler, Stalin, Mussoliny, Benes, Daladier, Chamberlain were all statesman for good or for bad... but HoI is a game not reality or history simulator.

Darkest Hour/World In Flames II starts in 1933, and since I like to play as Japan, I can assure you it is not all about Hitler. I like the earlier start because I can tailor my nation more to my liking. The game is more railroaded like it was in HOI II, but the same historical wars still tend to happen. I have a lot of fun playing in that game. I've played as Germany once and damn is it not easy!

I don't know about earlier dates, but they should certainly add later dates in a future patch, or a DLC if it takes that much effort (they'll get paid for making dates that way).

Paradox going lazy just because "buu huu no one plays late dates so we will not create them anymore buu huu" is such a pathetic excuse. I love playing all start dates, especially later ones because only later dates allow actual historical scenarios. Just because some kids obsessively glue themselves to 1936/1444/769 it doesn't mean later dates shouldn't be in.

If we are talking about earlier dates, the earliest possible date can be the day when Paul von Hindenburg died and Hitler declared himself Fuhrer and Chancellor, effectively making Germany a dictatorship. Wasn't that somewhere in 1934? Because that is when his actual, full reign began and things like foundation of Wehrmacht on the base of the now-dead Imperial German Army and rearmament and reoccupation of Rhineland and heavy industrialization began taking place.

Starting a few years earlier opens up huge possibilities for the player to role play and mold history the way he or she likes it.

Playing as Germany you get more time to experiment with, oh I don't know, a big navy to challenge the brits?

As Japan you could spend more time to get ready for war with China.

Or as any other minor power have more time to shift ideology and build up for war!
