Still lots of "unknown_string not found".
It seems the config\extra_text.csv in E3 map v0.5a.rar is faulty, taking the original 1.05 file corrects the strings. I don't know however what was changed to include this file in the E3 mod.
The other bugs are fixed with the new files.

The AOD devs have reorganised the content of all .csv files in the config sub-directory with the latest patch. Now the names of all ares/regions can be found in the world_names.csv file but before several names were stored elsewhere (in the extra_text.csv file). With the reorganisation of the files all information from this file, which is actually not part of the adapted files, is lost. This results in several "unknown_string not found". :( I had already asked Jounk35 for a quick fix but it seems that he simply had not the time to do it. Since I've already done some minor changes to the adj-defs.csv I planned to update the world_names.csv file by myself.

I think I have done something wrong trying to install E3-map over my AoD copy... :confused:

Once I choose in the menu E3 Grand-Campaign Scenario, following error message appears:

Critical error!

---missing eventdatabase:db\events\USA_AI.txt

I press ¨to omit¨ (if I press ¨retried¨ program crash and return to Windows... :( )

After this, a second message appears:

---Couldn't open file:scenarios\E3-1936\vp.inc

Ok, now with the updated files uploaded this bug won't occur any longer but you can solve it by setting a # at the beginning of its line in the 1936 scenario file (0_gc_1936.eug).

I'm surprised that the choice 'omit' has such dramatic consequences. I tried to reproduce this bug but after I chose the (third) option to 'Ignore' which I typically use the scenario simply continues to load. There might be another problem hiding in the shadows. But I hope that the 1936 scenario starts now for you as flawlessly as it should. :)

Same here. Further, when I'm able to start the game there are "unknown string"s everywhere (see attachments).
Besides the menu-tabs and some descriptions, some of the options to start the game are unknown strings.

Your screenshot shows another type of the "unknown string wanted" bug which I wasn't aware of. I remember that I've read during the v1.05 betatest that several players were plagued by these. Luckily I had never to suffer from those which would have harmed the adaption of the E3 map massively. As you can see I don't even have this problem now. (...)

The only type of the "unknown string wanted" bug which our little mod atm causes are the missing names of several areas/regions of the worldmap because all other files (besides the province_names.csv and the world_names.csv file) are unchanged, i.e. the E3 map mod uses the vanilla game files. I don't know what the exact reason for their bugs were but iirc they simply reinstalled their game and then they were gone.

EDIT: Is it possible to make a 1.05 all in one rar archive, that would eliminate many errors on the user side and you could present a checksum to check the correct installation of the game.

I can't give you a checksum because I use a heavily modded game. But maybe one of the other fellows might post his checksum so that you can compare?

I'm hesitating to put all the files in one big archive because atm we have (fairly) regular updates and I don't want to force to download the big package regularly even if we've changed only some small scenario files. Once when most of the work is actually done we might reconsider this. :)

Like I said after merging the files, the problem is fixed :) and I didn't encounter other "unknownstrings" yet. Until 1938 no problems with this file.

I am running a handsoff test as Dominican Republic and have a couple bugs to report.

* upon launching the game, I get an error message 'missing eventdatabase:db\events\USA_AI.txt' I saw that this had already been reported in an earlier post

* when the Vichy France event fires, France retains ownership of the province of Toulouse. In other words, there is a big blue French province right in the middle of white Vichy France.

* various map issues regarding the need to balance resources so countries can utilize all their IC, the need to reduce infrastruture in say China and Russia, too many beach provinces, and so forth, but I know people are already working to improve the map.

You can find the two events in the hoi2.txt:

If they don't fire it might be because of this trigger:
random = 50

It's a sad surprise if you count on it. Reloading helps. ;)

Already solved. ;)

I don't know when I fixed this missing province but it must have been quite a long time ago. ;) You can easily check yourself whether the province #359 is included for Vichy in your revolt.txt. If you download the most recent scenario files you shouldn't see this happen again. But Vichy creation is a good point to investigate further because I rather dislike how the transfer of forces to Vichy is handled.

Pick a major or a few minors of your choice and investigate this issue further! :)

Yes, IC & resources are on our to-do list and this complex task might not be easily fixed. We need all help we can get to create a functional - and hopefully historical! - representation of the ww2 economies.

re beaches you might look at this old post from me which hadn't got the necessary attention:
E3 beach contest
If you look at the E3 map you'll see that almost any coastal province has a beach and a port. It seems to be worthwhile to look more closely at contemporary maps to determine how many of these are actually warranted or needed. Especially the abundance of beaches isn't to the advantage of the ai. If we want the ai once to be a worthwhile opponent we should handle this task carefully. As long as a division is the smallest land unit we can easily overextend it which makes the game even more easier than planned.

Therefore I start now a beach contest. Please report any coastal province with a beach or port which isn't suitable for it. If you find a province, which is missing both or only one of them, that in reality does have these, report it here, too. Check also carefully if ships enter ports from the right seazone.

Some harbour symbols are misplaced. While cross-checking ports and beaches you'll naturally stumble across these instances. We're willing to move these to a more appropriate position on the map but you have to tell us the exact x/y position and maybe the new port seazone. Since it's then a simple matter of copy&paste you can expect that we'll add it. The exact x/y positions of ports (and beaches) can be found in the province.csv file.

Fürstbischof: Not that this might be all that important, but I have found that the scenario E3-1936 USA.inc file has some error(s) that make(s) it impossible to open the 0_gc_1936 scenario.txt file with the original HoI 2 game editor. I find that this original game editor is rather useful to "check" provinces, ministers, diplomacy relations, OOBs and Tech apps. So when trying to open your 0_gc_1936 scenario file, it would not do so, but I have corrected it: it seems to have something to do with the "duplication" in provinces owned and controlled, which I have proceeded to delete. I have also done a copy/paste of all the USA national, owned and controlled E3 Map provinces from another trusted file and this seems to have done it, and now I can open the 0_gc_1936 scenario file with the HoI 2 game editor! Here's the corrected (?) part of the text of the USA.inc if you should wish to review it:

Fürstbischof: Not that this might be all that important, but I have found that the scenario E3-1936 USA.inc file has some error(s) that make(s) it impossible to open the 0_gc_1936 scenario.txt file with the original HoI 2 game editor. I find that this original game editor is rather useful to "check" provinces, ministers, diplomacy relations, OOBs and Tech apps. So when trying to open your 0_gc_1936 scenario file, it would not do so, but I have corrected it: it seems to have something to do with the "duplication" in provinces owned and controlled, which I have proceeded to delete. I have also done a copy/paste of all the USA national, owned and controlled E3 Map provinces from another trusted file and this seems to have done it, and now I can open the 0_gc_1936 scenario file with the HoI 2 game editor! Here's the corrected (?) part of the text of the USA.inc if you should wish to review it:

I've tried the editor recently again and wasn't so fond of it. Since I'm mainly checking the files for inconsistencies it was never important for the adaption to the E3 map - luckily, because it's imho not so easy to use. And it's buggy, too.

It may be that the HOI2 Editor is unable to read AOD files but I'm quite sure that there is no bug in the US scenario file. If there would be a bug then you'd get a warning message from the game itself. During the adaption of the ai/event/scenario files I've undone all changes to any file which led to the ominous message which stated that the scenario has been loaded with errors. The primary guideline for the adaption was a error-free start of the game.

If I examine the US scenario file more closely I can tell you that the general overhaul of this file is overdue. It even has the original AOD set of provinces included, but these are inactive ('#'). Especially the air and naval bases need a re-asssessment but that involves reading quite a lot of stuff so that won't be finished in the next week(s).

There's definitely room for improvement. :) If you look at the current version of the USA as a revolter you can see that I've already started to sort things out:

But the big pile of ids needs some work (and time). I'd appreciate if you take the time to finish this task. Several other scenario files (UK, FRA, China) might be a guideline for you. Finally the US scenario file should look like the UK file:

It is indeed nice to have the provinces sorted out by regions,
as you have done, but I'm afraid I don't see the practical use for this...
Then again, there may be a practical use for remapping areas and regions maybe, and perhaps
there are other uses that my ignorance fails to see for the moment.

Since this is an interesting initiative by you, surely there must be good reasons for it :)

1. revolt.txt: revolters & releasable colonies
2. ares/regions map
3. other scenario files
4. event files
5. ai files
6. track unused province ids

If you don' know where exactly a province id located is you'll have to check the map each time. Or if you don't know all the claims of the neighbouring nations you risk assigning the wrong province ids to minimum/extra in revolt.txt. In some cases I had to check very carefully how to assign provinces. In Arma (or AOD) you could often not release a nation although you owned most of its provinces, simply because province ids had been carelessly assigned to minimum/extra. I should mention that in AOD/E3 you can actually release the Confederated States or - e.g. as Japan - both chinese minors which replace Shanxi and Nat. China. :)

In this regard is the revolt.txt file not an exact copy of its vanilla companion it's a mod of its own. ;)

Since this is an interesting initiative by you, surely there must be good reasons for it :)

The general idea was to make the adaption of other mods to the E3 map as easy as possible. :) But during the next weeks I won't have that much time which I can spend on improving the AOD/E3 files so it'd fine if we could gather some helping hands to finish the last major task: IC & resources.
