Part 1

So this is about Finland and a one family that well, does run it.

Prologue

46 years ago Finnish empire had fallen under the rule of Sweden. Some had thought that Juvaka family was gone, since no one had heard anything about them in 46 years.
It was a cold day of June when Duke Waldemar I was walking in the city garden.
Against his guards will he had left the castle of Turku by himself jus to be alone, for little time.

A young boy run from the side alley, it seemed like he was running away some one or something. He ran towards a wagon and fell to the ground.
Waldemar ran to the boy "Are you okay?" Waldemar said and offered his hand.
"Yeah" Boy grapped his hand. Waldemar saw a familiar ring in the boys hand.
"Where have you got this ring?" Waldemar asked.
He had seen the ring before.
"From my grandmother, it is a family heirloom" Boy explained.
"But this ring, it is..Juvaka´s family ring, a royal family ring" Waldemar said happily.
"Yes i am Jorma Juvaka, my grandmother was Marit Juvaka" Jorma said proudly.
"Do you know what this means?" Waldemar was so happy that he could have kissed the boy "This means that you are heir to the throne of Finland, you are to free us from the Swedish rule" Waldemar said and jumped around.
"Hurry we must go to the castle and began your training, you are to become the king of Finland" Waldemar grapped Jormas hand and walked towards the castle.
"But...what about my family?" Jorma said.
"Your family will be taken care of" Waldemar answered and continued walking.

Ill try and write the first "chapter" tonight, though it will be a long one and hopefully i will have some time to write it.

Building an Empire

"King" Waldemar I Keinonen

1-25.png

Waldemar Keinonen was the puppet-duke of Finland, ruling Turku and villages around it under the Swedish observation. Waldemar was very old and his healt was in terrible shape as he drank a lot of alchol.
He had always hoped that Juvaka family would rise again and build the finnish empire again. In year 1449 Waldemar joined the Hanseatic League, this resulted in a fast economic grow in Finland.
2-25.png

Turku and villages around it growed fast as merchanst moved in and brought wealth with them.

Waldemar´s dream of Finnish empire was about to come true when he founded a boy named Jorma Juvaka, he carried the Juvaka family ring and was the true heir to the crown.
Waldemar himself never lived long enough to see his dream come true as in 1453 he fell from the walls of Castle of Turku.
3-25.png

I had to get that Waldemar out of the way so the "long" update comes sometime tonight.

King Jorma III Juvaka
1-26.png

Declaration of independency

In 7th of October 1453 King Jorma III was crowned in Judgement Church of Turku. People of Finland gave a warm welcome to their new king and savior, who would free them.

King of Sweden was furiuos when he heard that Finland had claimed its independency, that wasn´t all that King Jorma III had done.
2-26.png

He pressed boundary issues to the finnish provinces controlled by Sweden, he also pressed these issues on Novgorod, Teutonic Order and Norway.

Economic Growth

Jorma III sent his best merchants to Lübeck and Novgorod, their mission was to gain most of the shares in these center of trades.
Most of them were succesfull.
3-26.png

Jorma III also made an alliance with Burgundy.

1st Finnish-Swedish war and the Bloody Finnish-Norwegian war

4-24.png

In February 1455 King Jorma III declared war upon Sweden, his intentions were to free all finnish provinces controlled by sweden.
Jorma IIIn had more men than the swedish armies in Finland and with the help of revolting finnish peasants provinces of Finland were soon under Finlands control.
5-21.png

In year 1456 Finland controlled all finnish provinces of Finland and Västerbotten. The situation was status quo, none of the armies had no intentions to fight anymore, Sweden tried to offer white peace but Jorma III turned these offers down and Offered peace where Sweden would lose all provinces in Finland but this offer was not accepted.
In August 1456 Jorma III decided to go war against Norway, this time he intented to re-take Lappland and seize the colony of Finmark. Lappland was taken quickly as all the norwegian armies were fighting alonside Denmark against Austria. Norway was a pupet regime controlled by Archbishopric of Denmark.
7-15.png

Jorma III was dissapointed when news came from Burgundy that they wont offer help to Finland against Norway and Sweden.

End of Finnish-Norwegian war

Finnish-Norwegian war enden in January 1457 in the victory of Finland. The war was known as the Bloody Finnish-Norwegian war, because King Jorma III had executed every norwegian peasant that had lived in Lapplan and in Finmark.

End of 1st Finnish-Swedish war

War between Finland and Sweden ended in 1458 in the minor victory of Finland. Jorma III gained only Österbotten and he had to let Sweden keep Tavastland, Savolax, Nyland and Viborg.
8-15.png

Sweden tried to ask Finland to let their armies to travel in their lands but this was declined by Jorma III. Swedens finnish provinces was isolated, their land routes to the north was cutted and the only way to bring supplies to these finnish provinces was by sea.

Hanseatic kontor and News

Jorma III appointed many new ministers, exspecially war ministers to help him plan his strategies and buil his armies.
6-20.png

Hanseatic League was delighted to Finlands economical growth and their well known merchants, they decided to offer an Hanseatic control to be build in Turku.
9-12.png

Jorma III accepted this and the building of the kontor began.
This new kontor brought many riches to Finland and along side of them it brought news from all over the world. When news about distant land in the west with riches came to Finland, Jormas spies rushed to tell their master these news. Jorma was very interested about this land of riches and he prepeared an expedition group to search for this land and colonize it.

eeerrrr....Im a prety bad map maker, but we shall see.

Presuming you're running 1.2.1, the F11 screenshot key works perfectly well. I use imageshack for mine, it's free ... what's not to love ? :D

At the sound of things, you should be able to fit all of Finland in one screenshot without difficulty. Once you start colonizing, things get more interesting...

Ye offcourse screenshots but if Thrashing mad ment maps like he has, well i dont know how to make that kind of maps.

Oooh, yeah, that'd be trickier for us unedumicated laypeople. :p But, to me, screenshots for EU/HoI/Vicki are often always maps, barring the more creative types who cut out everything but the image of what matters. ^_^

First expedition

In December 1462 the expedition group led by Seppo Rainer landed in the western coasts of Greenland.
1-27.png

This wasn´t the new world but Rainer thought that this would be a good harbor to equip the explolers coming from Finland. Colonization of Western Greenland was an easy job as the native greenlanders helped these new colonist to survive in the cold weather of Greenland.
In November 1463 letter came from Finland, telling Rainer to continue the search of new world. Rainer and his men left imidietly to west and n January 1464 they landed in Labrador, finaly Rainer was in the new world and a good news had to be told to King Jorma III.
2-27.png

Rainer himself left to Finland leaving Kalevi Juhantalo in charge. Seppo Rainer didn´t know that the ship that came to pick him carried a letter from the king, ordering expedition group to continue farther.

2nd expedition

Kalevi Juhantalo started his expedtion by moving north from Labrador along side the coast line.
3-27.png

Trip wasn´t easy as the deeper they went more aggressive the natives began. Many bloody battlese were fought to decide who shall controll the lands.

2nd Finnish-Swedish war

In December 1464 Jorma III was married to King of Leinsters daughter. Jorma III and King Cathaoir I made an alliance between their countries.
4-25.png

In March 1465 Jorma III declared war upon Sweden and together Finland and Leinster went war against Sweden.
5-22.png

Swedish troops were allready fighting against revolting peasants, their sealines were broken because of finnish navy was blocking the Gulf of Finland.
In May 1466 Finland controlled Finland and Västerbotten again but this time Jorma III wanted to go farther.
7-16.png

He attacked Stockholm and defeated the armies there, King of Sweden was forced to sing the peace treaty where he would give Nyland and Viborg to Finland.
8-16.png

3rd expedition

Jorma III ordered an new expedition to the new world.
Leader of this expedition was once again Seppo Rainer, his orders were to land in Innu and start building a colony in there and expand it in the south.
When Seppo arrived to Innu the natives gave them a warm welcome and Seppo started to trade with them. Colony of Innu was soon wealthy and Seppo moved with his armies towards south.
Colonizing the new world was difficult, when Seppo had conquered the coast line and moved to inner land the natives started to attack them.
In year 1474 Seppo Rainer was killed during one of the native attacks.
Kalevi Juhantalo had established an properous trading colony in the north and in year 1478 it was connected to the eastern colonies.

3rd minor Finnish-Swedish war

In year 1474 Jorma III declared another war upon Sweden. The remaining swedish controlled provinces of Finland were almost desserted and Jorma III encountered little resistance when he conquered them.
War lasted for three years until King of Sweden signed the peacy treaty where he gave Tavastland and Savolax to Finland.

1st Finnish-Teutonic war

3-28.png

It was January 1483 when Jorma III declared war upon Teutonic Order.
Teutonic Order had just won a war against Principality of Novgorod and gained most of its land but their armies were exhausted.
4-26.png

First battle was fought in Kexholm and it ended in victory of Finland.

Fortifications in these lands were useless against the mighty armies of Finland.
5-23.png

End of Finnish-Teutonic war

The war ended after a year of fighting and a peace was made were Teutonic Order gave Ösel, Kexholm, Neva, Ingermanland and Estland to Finland.
