I hope so, Dynasties really make the time period and would allow historical unions, such as the hapsburgs and burgundians or alternate history such as the hohenzollerns gaining Sweden through marriage following the death of Gustavus Adolphus. Most of the wars during this period were based on succession to the throne of this or that principality

This is a must!

I hope that one character could lead many countries without merge them...

So we can have one Charles of Habsbourg that rule Burgondy, Spain and Austria (etc.) without that spain inherit Austria... but during it's rule, they are allied and can't start war between them.

I also hope that we will have random dynastical à la Crusader Kings (and a game in the Crusader Kings feeling) so no party will be similar.

With the dynasty system, comes the Dynamic event system, which would make a much much much better game.

Having a court and courtiers would improve the game, I seriously think. And the system could realistically and historically be applied to EU, whereas not with Vicky or HOI.

Well a lot fewer people, basically just the main family..
A lot fewer traits, 1 minimum, 3 max?
Some ability i suppose.. hard to avoid!

But getting a historical dynasty would be tough.. unless traits and birts are made more deterministic, just more varied.. and some opportunity to play havoc with history (Ruriks ruling forever!)

Just the ruler, its family, and it's direct vassals if the game simulate great feudal lords... (for some frondes)...

I think that an EU3 game should also be builded around the idea that in modern times, the kings searched to change their feudal realm to a modern nation, where the great lords and Parliaments lost their political power.

Perhaps the objective of an game could be to become an absolute monarch.

In the gamestart, the player could have ennemy within and without... If EU3 have an inner political dimention, it will be next to perfect.

As much as I love EUII I always end up going back to CK because without "personality" EUII gets a little bland. You have no interest in families or power or dynasties or traits... CK is a very "personal" game. You identify with the characters and you notice as you go from generation to generation that the game plays differently. In EU you end up playing the same way no matter who the ruler is; I've played Portugal at least a dozen times, and it pretty much ended up the same way every time.

Which all goes to say that I hope they can put some flavor of the personalities into EU III to capture that aspect.

<but even if they don't, I'll still be jumping in to buy a copy and start playing>
;)

dynasties would make sense imo and could be majorly useful in creating yet another dimension in the game, but it should not take another useful part of the games place.

Yes, but it's not the probleme, we could have an event related to the richelieu idea (an minister work to reinforce the royal power). Or to the Napoléon idea (an officer make a coup in the country)

(personally I like the idea of a bit more detailed (almost "RPG-style") set-up for your monarch and various ministers (maybe you'll be able to make your own cabinet ala HOI2?

Having a royal family with different personalities and traits would be very cool. Would also cap the number of royal marriages you can engage in, in EU2 it almost felt like cheating when you could send an endless flock of brides around the world to better relations.

I'm also hoping they have HOI2-style Monarch pictures (preferably in period/culturally-specific artistic forms...) - being able to see the HoS and HoG of foreign countries really makes the game for me!

It might be difficult to track 'real' portraits for a lot of the American or African states, but I'm sure there are lots of generic images of African or Native American chieftains that could be culled from period sources...

Oh yeah! That would rock (too bad pictures would be hard to find for a lot of people)

I'd like to see some dynasties in the game. But I wouldn't want to miss out some historical good ones though.

Now that could be interesting. Maybe not a whole cabinet, but something like a Privy Council (so only a few courtiers)

But really, dynasties? I hope no. EU2 should be about countries not persons. Person-based CK is only interesting if you are in RP (and that is the point of CK, no EU), if not the whole dynasty thing is kind of boring is you play from a country-perspective.

Although maybe dynasties could work if a medieval kind of model is followed: Only you, your wife/husband and children, and as personalities courtiers/military leaders (but they without families or the like). And you then could appoint them for a small council.

Having uncles and relatives to your ruler would be awesome, especially if you could make them rulers of other nations.
