dynasty descriptions

Just for a bit of fun what do you think would be good and accurate descriptions for some of the dynasties. For example in EUII the country description for Aragon is:

"The Crown of Aragon was created in 1137 when the Count of Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer, married Peronella of Aragon when she was only 2 years old. The two nations became united and began their drive to the south to expel the Moors from Spain, conquering Valencia and the Balearic Islands. In 1412 Martí l'Humà, the last Catalan King of the Barcelona dynasty died heirless and the nobles gathered to elect Ferran I d'Antequera, putting a Castillian King on the Aragonese throne for the first time in history in spite of strong Catalan opposition. John II of Aragon (1458–79), countered residual Catalan resistance by arranging for his heir, Ferdinand, to marry the heiress of Henry IV of Castile - Isabella. In 1479, upon John II's death, the kingdoms of Aragon and Castile were finally united to form the kingdom of Spain."

I can't think of any offhand because the backround of dynasties isn't a strong point. Since we don't know which dynasties we have in stone (48 is there?) I guess any guess is as good as any other.

When you start CK there will be a database of soem three-four(?) generations of ancestors of all(!) the main characters. Just collecting that should give enough info to do a decent background description I'd think...

but wouldn't it be helpful for players who arent heavy into history to see the backround of the dynasties and maybe some kind of hint of what the real life goals of these families were so the player could try to follow their footsteps if desired.

can you elaborate on that Havard? I dont understand what you mean about databases.

etc etc

Basic family tree. That gets really complicated with all the inbreeding

So they'll compile the complete family tree of some RL dynasty?

Sounds both daunting and exciting. I'm sure there'll be plenty of debate (as usual) about the validity of the family tree ("No, <insert name> is not a <insert nationality>").

The database I refer to is a collection of the ancestors of the actual characters, showing their family connections. By using that you could see that e.g. king William of England (you know - the Bastard/Conqueror ) had a sister Alice married to the Count of Champagne or that his aunt Alice was married to the Renaud of Burgundy, making the reigning count, Guillaume I, his cousin.

I would assume a general overview of each playable dynasty should be there, yes

Pardon me, but do you fellows suppose that the Habsburgs deserve to be in, or do you think 1419-1820 is their age?

Well I suppose the origins of habsburg is in the CK era but I wouldn´t expect a house of Habsburg in 1066. At least not in the game.

but werent the Habsburgs fairly influential at least regionally in Swabia and then later on after becoming emperors they get Austria ( 1282 ). Sure kinda midway but still thats pretty good isn't it?

When was the first Habsburg around really? It might have been so far back as 11th century but as Paradox tends to emulate exactly how the things are started out and not how it will look a bit further down the line if they aren´t at least moderately powerful I wouldn´t count on it.

I'm sure there were Habsburgs around..someone said something in some thread about them being the most powerful landowners in Swabia, but it wasnt til the late 1200s/early 1300s they become emperors and started their marrying frenzy.

If they're not in, oh well it is just for curiousity sake.

I had a little discussion with Dem and as the major landholders in Swabia with the title of Count I think they will be in the game. Kewl or what.

The first count of Habsburg was Otto who died in 1111. He was son of Radebot, Count in the Klettgau, who built the castle Habsburg. It would be Otto and/or his brother Werner who would be present in 1066.

I'm not sure, but I'd guess they weren't big enough yet for inclusion in 1066... Maybe for later scenarios...

No, you will start out as Konstantinos X Doukas at the start of the game. But you can just marry your neice to Alexeios Komnenos, as happened in real life, and engineer the succession so he comes to the throne...
