They cost 0,4 price of big ships. Their number of cannons is less than half of big ships, depend on tech. Near the end game, they are more than three times weaker in number of cannons, dunno how it is with their tech shock/fire modifires.

Anyway there are no light ships until 11 naval tech, and then they are more than two times weaker. The difference in cannons only grows.

EDIT: I checked, and light ships have same shock modifire as big ships, while having 5 times worse fire modifire. Which makes them very weak(aspecialy since they have less cannons). However, i think that they make more damage in shock phase because they got double manevurability of big ships. Still as combat starts from fire phase, they are realy most propably get smashed before they manage to make considerable damage. If i would use small ships for anything, it would be for exploring, AND to watch for pirates - because i won't make ships watching for pirates attack enemy ships, and this will give me very big propability that my tarrifs won't get away, even if my battle fleet get smashed. As galleys does not help with tarrifs, i would use them only if i would have no oversea provinces, and i need anti-pirate ships. Or if i would be a power in meditterran, as early on, galleys own in those seas - and are cheap. If you plan on to be dominant power of meditteran asap, you should buildup a large galley fleet, and forget about taking provinces elsewhere.

IMO actualy venice could kill off ottomans early on, by building up as much galleys as possible, and blockadin the strait, plus calling in country like poland. And making a quick invasion, before ottomans recognize what did hit them. And i speak about multiplayer. In single player defeating ottomans is piece of cake.

So a little over half the cost but a third as powerful?
