I decided to give republic a try for the first time since I started playing this game, and I am having and orangist on my throne since he had some nice above average stats. I am having a royal marriage with Austria right now and they have no heir. When I put cursor over their ruler it says that on monarch death a succesion war between France and Palatinate will happen even tho I have high prestige and France does not have RM with Austria.

I've read that Dutch republics allows forming of PUs, not by force but throughout diplomacy, but I can't form them. Di they changed something with latest patches and DLCs or am I missing something ?

Thanks in advance.

Not at all. They barely have 5 provinces while I have low countries, whole of burgundy and couple of provinces in England with London. And the thing is, it doesn't write that noble from my house will suceed to throne. I've read that in Dutch Republic PUs pretty much work like in monarchy with exception of forced PUs so that kind of confuse me.

Imo PUs in republics do not even make sense with the exception of PU over England as Netherlands, so this isn't such a big issue since I am more into conquest than PUs, but I just wanted to know how PUs with Dutch republic actually work. How to actually contest PU as Netherlands ? How PUs with Dutch Republic even work ?

How do you have the same dynasty as Austria? That's necessary for PUs. Also, I'm damn sure it's prestige more than anything, France has a shot at it simply because they are Austria's rival to contest the PU. My guess is Palatinate would inherit, but France will almost certainly contest it.

Well I do not have same ruling dynasty but neither France nor Palatine have it. I've read on their site that dutch republic can form PU if "all conditions are met", but I can't find those conditions anywhere. So what are conditions for a dutch republic to form PU ? Since there ain't no dynasty is the only way to form PU throughout contest (war) if you meet all conditions ? If anyone knows conditions I would appriciate if you share them here.

Thanks for that suggestion Badesumofu. I'll read that thread right now. I saw that it is a huge guide so I am pretty sure I'll find my answer there. Thank you all for help.

you got become eglible to contest the succession offensively, which you seem to be due to having marriage.

pretty sure dutch republic can't be defender side in succession war.

i don't know for sure, they might have "fixed" dutch republic being able to contest successions in war.

just a warning: you would have to win versus france and allies if you want to steal Austria as a Union from them.

if you don't show up now as offensive contestor they might have fixed it.

you could try marrying france too. Or try to beat france in effective development by lowering autonomy everywhere if able, but even then you might not be eglible to be defender in succession war, as aforementioned.

its... complicated.

if you aren't paying for troops then do so. turn on all forts, go max manpower by asking from estates or cashing in army professionalism for manpowerand see if it becomes france versus the Netherlands.

why? you got to beat the palatinate and all other contestors in military rating (value in score section of the ledger)

that is my best advice.
