Its been quite some time since my last attempt at one of these as the Byzantines, so lets hopethis one goes well, hey?

Game Version is In Nomine 3.1.
All options are on default except for Lucky Nations which is Off (which has already led to some intresting developments!).
Playing as Holland.
The presentation will be mainly gameplay, mabye something else thrown in.
Start year for the AAR is 1443.

I've Never really played in this region of Eurpoe before now, I usually stick to Iberia, the balkans or Italy, so I think it'll be intresting to see how things turn out.

-------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 1: Where are we going?

The date is Teusday, 5th June, 1453ad.

Holland has just signed a peace deal with Brabant and Freisland, seizing territory from the first and annexing the second. Holland now owns the following (much more then the mere 2 province minor we started as!)

map_overview.png

Hollan is now just one province away from becoming the Netherlands. Only Utrecht and its allies stand in our way. Luckily enough, If we move fast enough, we wont have to deal the HREmperor, because thats us! Although due to our recent... activities, we may not be so for much longer.

policy_overview.png

With maintenance on full currently, we make just over $28/year in profits. Our NI is National Bank, taking advantage of all the trade income we generate.

Sadly, our political situation had deteriorated. Our only current Ally is Castille, although I doubt that will stay that way for long. Over the last decade and a half, Holland has enjoyed an on again - off again relationship with England, Castille, Denmark, Leige and Cologne, each often offering us an alliance, only to betray us when we go to war, despite us supporting them in theirs. It seems the world has no respect for the Dutch (I suppose we'll have to teach them some :p)

political_overview.png

Currently, the only nation Holland enjoys good relations with is France, despite not being allied. All other nations have relations of <100, which will make reelection as the HREmperor difficult if we dont start a strategic Gift program soon...

Taking note of the above, Its decided we had best grab Utrecht whilst we still can. Currently, they are allied with Munster, what is left of Burgandy and Cologne. And lucky for us, Brabant is guaraunteeing them, so we may have the chance to vassailse them as well.

wardec_utrecht.png

After recruit a few extra Infantry Regiments, we declare war on Utrecht.

preparefor_utrecht.png

The next day, we are not in the least surprised to find that Castille has dishonoured their Alliance with us.

Our forces win a minor battle in Utrecht, as our main army fights in Brenda against the forces of Brabant. Unfortunately, some Wallonian rebels in Hainaut choose this moment to rebel! our plan to attack burgandy is temporarily sidelined until...

battleofbrenda1.png

The Kings forces are victorius in Brenda. They quickly rush down to Hainaut to deal with our new rebel problem. Before our army can arrive, some French Force cross the border and deal with the problem for us! seems our frineds in blue arnt just for show after all!.

After few other minor skirmishes, and an umber of attempts from our enemies to break the seige in Utrecht, Munster asks for a white peace, which is accepted. Cologne soon followed after Koln was taken.

cologne_peace.png

Soon after, Burgandy asks for a white peace, which is refused. Their army is toast, we can get better then that! But then something simply marvelous happened! the seige of Utrecht was over! Hurrah!.

annex_utrecht.png

Also, a new level of Government tech was reached, and a new idea gained! For now Bureaycracy was taken. Another Hurrah!

Now all that remained was to defeat Brabant. As our main army chased a few Brabant and Burgandian single regiments around, our noble King, Albert the 1st passed on. Albert 2nd took his place and sadly, the Austrian king was named HREmperor.

newking.png

After a few more battles, and Burgandy finding herself at war with Lorraine as well, a peace deal was settled to take Artois and a large sum of money.

burgandy_peace.png

All that remained was Brabant, which didnt last long as they were forced to sign a humiliating peace, surrendering Brenda and driving them out of the low countires, and the war was won!

peace_brabant.png

After only 4 years, Holland had increased in size by nearly 50%!

after_the_war.png

But with our goals acomplished, where would be go now? Further into the HRE? venture west? North? who knows!

You should try to become HRE again. Then you can take all the bordering provinces of the HRE. Like muster berg luxembourg...

Also a colonial empire would be nice... Go to the east not the west :)

There's some very rich merchant cities to the north competing with the superior Dutch trade - Hamburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg, even Copenhagen. What better way to secure Dutch supremacy than to bring them under your administration :D ?

Chapter 2: Looks like we're staying here....

With our war over, revolts possible in a few new provinces, loss o the Imperial crown and poor relations with most of the world, it seems obvious our next step should be to improve our relations with our neighbours and try and get some allies. Asking around, to the 'usual' suspects, and we throw in a new one, Venice. The results? Our merry-go-round allies all refuse (for now?), whilst our new flavour of the decade accepts!

alliances.png

With all our diplomats used, we had best concentrate on rebuilding our trade empire and begin working on becoming HREmperor again. Also, keeping up our relations with our scary blue neighbour is always a good idea.

francemarriage.png

All seems rather peaceful for a while until.... out of the blue...an Alliance invitation! from our on again off again friends the Castillians!

castille_alliance.png

But it seems our new alliance has brought us some bad luck, as some of our production research is flawed. Surely it nust be the fault of our southern 'friends'.

tech_flaw.png

ANd things just get worse, with some rebels springing up first in Limburg.... then Koln..and eventually Utrecht! After a series of defeats in Limburg, the fortress there is lsot, and a large rebel force gathers in Koln. The rebels in Utrecht are defeated and manage to retreat further south to... Koln!

This leaves a force of some 17,000+ rebels to our measily 6,000 cavalry force. Recruitment is begun in earnest, before its realised its not needed, as two of the rebel armies move into leige instead, and then one of the two moves into Hainhaut. Lucky for us, France coems to the rescue and begins having a game of Europes favourite past time, Ping Pong! Men while, the new and improved Kings army moves into Koln, defeats the rebels there, and after leaving a beseiging force behind, joins the French in a fantastic game of ping pong all across Holland and wallonia!

rebels.png

With the rebel problem seemingly dealtwith, two noble families deside to bring their problems ot the kings court.

noblefamilies.png

Flipping a coin, we side with one side, and promptly crush the other with our temporarily bolstered Kings Army. Whilst we deal with our own problems, Venice asks for our aid in fighting Naples and hte Papal State. the odds are slightly agaisnt Venice, and since we seem to be rich in rebels, we send Venice an angry letter for getting itself in a war and dishonour our alliance, giving us a very nice prestige rating of -99!

As a reward, More rebels surface, this time in Freisland. These are defeated and run into Munster, where they can stay for all we care. Things seem to be settling back down to normal again as England once again offers us an Alliance,

england_allaince.png

And we make breakthroughs in Trade and production!

trade.png
production.png

Things arnt meant to last however, as Castille soon finds itself at war, and asks us for help.

war.png

Should we rush to their aid? or stick with tradition and return the favour of abandoning them in their hour of need? It might be of note that Castille has already gotten itself in a war with France, so mabye its time to let Castille fly on its own...

Middelkerke: A colonial Empire is a possibility, but from experience with England, I think i might wait till after I have converted to reformed before i go colonising (I had a large colonial empire with england once and converted to protestant... picture catholic rebel armies running amok in west africa and north America... good times were had by all! )

FYROM: This is a distict possibility. Right now, Denmark seems to be getting tis head handed to it by the current Emperor, Austria. We'll have to wait and see if a good opportunity arises.

Enewald: Tempting, but i dont know if France would be ok with it... I DO have a number of cores of theirs after defeating burgandy :)

Thanks for the support ;) [And have 250 people really read this!?! Ye Gods!]
