I have a few ones I make and wanted to see what you guys have.
One that has happened to me a lot is loss of stability for violating a treaty I forgot I had.
Another big one is coring Constantinople instead of switching capitals. It pisses me off I can't cancel hafway through and get my adm back. It's always so early in the game it kills my momentum (well without those 200 adm why bother continuing?)

Another mistake I have made, fighting in India with less than 50 troops. Bahammins always stomps my inferior European self.

I am going to post in here, instead of starting a different thread, which I had planned to do, because a thread like this will likely last awhile.

As Russia,I am about to declare war on Poland. I look at who they are allied with: something like Riga. I can handle that.

Turns out, after I declare war, that they have a PU with Brandenburg/Prussia. Made all the difference in the world. Was stomped.

So, I was going to make this into a "should have a better warning on real alliances". But, I will be modest, and say that my mistake was to not look at PUs before declaring war.

I tend to forget about my trade capital and place a merchant in it for a good twenty years at the beginning of each game before realizing what I've done. Such a waste.

Things that happen to me often:
I usually don't declare rivals right away. Instead I like to wait until I actually want to do something hostile against them. Then sometimes I forget to make them my rival before starting the war and halfway through I notice "damn forgot that again!"
Another thing I often overlook is the DoF. I can't count how often I attacked some little OPM without allies only to end up fighting against france or austria.
And sometimes I actually forget to save my adm / dip mana during wars to make a peacedeal. Sometimes out of reflex I end up buying a new tech in the middle of a war when the "new tech available" pop-up appears and after the peace I'm sitting on 80% OE but no adm mana for coring. (or even worse I end up having too little dip mana for the peace treaty I want)

Amphibious landing in France with 100k thinking it "enough" to beat a weakened 60k troop France. They seem to always have a 5/6/5/* Louis X?? everytime with Full Elan charging up their morale.

Upgrading diplomatic tech just as a war I started is about to end.
This! Every new campaign I make that same mistake a couple of times and have to just sit there 2 or 3 years with 100% war score waiting for diplo points.

Also I often forget to place troops in a new colony so the natives destroy it. There goes another year waiting the colonist to arrive.

You need Wealth of Nations active to set your trade capital independently of your normal capital, though, and the trade capital will follow you around if you move your capital normally. Keep it in mind and you might save a few hundred monarch points occasionally.

Start claiming on provinces for next war and when the truce expires I realize I only made one or two claims and then forgot about it.

Being in a war with some land locked countries, and thinking I can leave my trade fleet out. Then being called into a second war by an ally, joining, and then after a while getting the notification about a naval battle, and watching my trade fleet get sunk by someone in the second war.

I always forget to call off trading ships to port before declaring war. I lost 4 different up-to-the-forcelimits fleets as Poland to this, they always got annihilated by someone like Scandinavia or Hansa. It would have been 6 fleets, but I have since then grown too big for anything in the Baltics to threaten me, and I learned to keep galleys with them. If I was protecting my trade in Crimea, though...

There is a box on the naval unit view you can check that sets them to automatically port when war begins, in case you didn't know.
