Thank you!!! This rocks, plainly and simply.

The time for a patch is coming near, and I'll try to work out a way to give you all individual credit for your work.

Mormegil gave me an idea: I ought to write an explanation for how to I named my colonies. We might see that in the near future.

Quick memo: if you are doing any colonynames with Saint's in them, please SPELL OUT the word "Saint" in its respective language. You'll notice I do the same. If you don't want to you don't have to, but it just looks better in my opinion. Besides, it lends the newly-planted colony a sense of credibility as totally ethnically and linguistically akin to its mother country.

Again, THANK YOU EVERYONE. You guys kick butt!!

:p ;) :D

Here's a sampling of some of my favorite colonynames, and I how I made them:

AQU;La Paon;808

"The peacock," appropriate enough for Madagascar.

AQU;Fort de la Lune;809
AQU;Fort du Soleil;810

Really, really bucolic, but maybe appropriate: two matching islands, one named for the Sun, the other for the Moon.

AQU;L'Étoile Vespere;811

French for "The Evening Star," which I thought was a fitting name for Mahé. An island paradise in the ocean, a fitting abode, perhaps, for Venus, the Evening Star.

BRI;Le Crescent Bleu;689

Named for the powerful Chinese sword you can find in the Super Nintendo game Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons. All other nations have a name for Taiwan based on a variation of the word "Zipangu."

BRI;Fort Minogue;797

Three guesses as to whom this named after . This was one of the first colonynames I ever made, back in February of 2003--oddly coincidental with the release of Kylie Minogue's first single in America . Well, maybe not entirely coincidental!

ENG;Chantillay;105

A fictitious city I made for SimCity 3000, carved out of a river valley and built on both banks, with geography near to the Megantic region. It's a semi-play on the word "Chambly."

More to come...

Maybe we (that ist you:D ) could ask Johan to include those names in one of the next beta-patches....:)

An an example, how I made some of those names: they where simply translated from English to other languages. For Example, Green Bay is Zelena Laguna in Croatian.:D

Sure. I edited mine.:) Only the top one. The Norwegian word for 'saint' is 'sankt' as in Danish.

Thank you all for your hard work, and suggestions, guys. This rocks.

For the American colonies: I just feel they're in their right place. I might be wrong, but I think I'll leave them unchanged. Don't worry about the "first post," you were just trying to be helpful;) .

Thanks again Mormegil for the "Sankt" for "St." I'm playing as Norway right now :D. Norse people rule! (I'm 1/16th Norse)

And as for including it in the patch: I would be honored, but please, Johan, credit me and everyone in this thread who put time into it.

Patch for the colonynames is coming soon...I'm still wanting of Frisian, Catalán, and Chinese colonies.

Thanks again, guys!!

:D

Fully historical or as close as they can get, due to the EU2 map.

Greenland (Grønland) is a bit difficult.
Mostly because there is a lot of colonies far up the west coast that WAS colonized in the EU2 timeframe, but the land is not on the EU2 map :(
So I just picked two of the earliest and largest.

I can make up some fictional too if you like.

What does it mean?

Also, is 'Nowa' the word for 'New', or 'Nowy'? Or is it a rule who says something about using both?

'River City'. It isn't maybe as bed in English as it is in Polish, where it sounds like two different words having nothing to do with eachother. Just "Rzeka" (River) would be better, though still sounds strange, we could use almost every noun to name a colony that way.

Also, is 'Nowa' the word for 'New', or 'Nowy'? Or is it a rule who says something about using both?

'Nowa' & 'Nowy' both mean 'New'. 'Nowa' is just female, and 'Nowy' is male. "a" is usually a female ending, and others are usually male. Both words (noun and an adjective) should always have the same gender.
